its not that good imo

It's still the second highest debut of the year and they were never gonna beat Gaga!! Album sales go down year on year, they've admitted that themselves so it was never gonna sell like VLV sold.

Exactly. It's not really accurate to compare sales nowadays to previous years as music sales keep going down and the economy probably isn't helping much either!

Being just behind Gaga in both UK and USA is a triumph.

It's probably only gonna spend one week on top in the UK though, Florence is out today.

hmmm... this Florence album doesn't seem as big as i expected it to though. They could hold on.

Unfortunately in Denmark Mylo Xyloto was released in the same week as Denmark's currently most popular singer released his second album which of course debuted at number 1. His first album stayed as number 1 for 25 consecutive weeks, so no chance that Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto will be number 1 in Denmark. :( But it is number 2, and Paradise is now being played a lot on some radio channels, and the video/song is much played on VH1, Denmark. I saw it for the first time played on VH1, Denmark on Saturday 29 October, and Paradise debuted at number 14 on the playlist.

Coldplay set new digital record

31/10/2011

Coldplay’s latest album, 'Mylo Xyloto', smashed a new digital record in landing the Number 1 spot in yesterday’s Official Albums Chart, the Official Charts Company can confirm today.

The new studio album scored the biggest one week digital albums tally of all time in the UK – becoming the first album to top 80,000 downloads in a week as it did so. 'Mylo Xyloto' tallied just over 83,000 digital sales last week, on the way to totalling 208,000 copies overall.

The biggest previous weekly digital tally by any album was 79,800, which was achieved by Take That’s 'Progress' in its opening week, in November last year. The only other artist albums to total more than 50,000 downloads in a week are Adele’s '21' which sold 76,000 downloads in its debut week in January this year, along with Lady Gaga’s 'Born This Way', which sold 57,000.

"We're thrilled to achieve this record and very grateful to our British fans for their incredible support," the band told theofficialcharts.com.

The sales of 'Mylo Xyloto' are not yet quite enough to push bit into the Official all-time Top 50 digital albums listing, but it should break in pretty quickly, with only 49 albums having sold more than 100,000 downloads to date. However, Coldplay’s previous album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' is currently at 13 in the all-time ranking, with 175,000 downloads sold. The biggest selling digital album is Adele’s '21' with 664,000 sales, almost double that of second placed Lady Gaga’s 'The Fame'.

Great news for coldplay. Thoroughly deserved!

When the hell will they publish sales in the US? I

Wednesday I believe.

When the hell will they publish sales in the US? I

Billboard will release them on Wednesday but HITS will do on Tuesday. Usually they are just a couple thousands copies different.

BB likes to put out round numbers while HITS will just put the actual numbers.

Per example, BB will say 510000 copies sold and HITS will write 508639 copies sold.

Thx guys. I usually don't care about Billboard 200 but I've been checking since yesterday and have started to hate Adele a little bit. LOL

hmmm... this Florence album doesn't seem as big as i expected it to though. They could hold on.

Doesn't look like it. Granted this is just the iTunes sales, but still given that iTunes is where most of Coldplay's sales last week came from...

UK Midweek Chart: Florence likely to end Coldplay's chart reign

Florence + The Machine’s Ceremonials is poised to end Coldplay’s run at the top of the UK artist albums chart after just a week as Cher Lloyd faces a close battle with Professor Green to top the singles countdown again.

Island’s second Florence album has sold around 38,000 copies in the week so far, according to the Official Charts Company, about 14,400 copies ahead of Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto whose sales are 76% down on the week having debuted at number one last Sunday.

Colplday are sandwiched in second place by two brand new albums with Ceremonials at one and Virgin’s Professor Green currently a new entry in third place with At Your Inconvenience. And there are another three brand new albums presently occupying Top 10 slots with Columbia’s Manic Street Preachers retrospective National Treasures fifth, Rizzle Kicks’ Island debut Stereo Typical sixth and Decca act Alfie Boe’s Alfie eighth. Sour Marsh’s Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds completes the top five dropping 2-4.
