"Daniel in a lion's den" has a lot of sense, I've found out it's a reference to the Old Testament of the Bible:

From: Wikipedia - Daniel, the prophet

Wow :stunned:

That's what I've been hearing all along.

Nice biblical reference, Chris. ;)

The reference is quite obvious as Daniel is one of the most important characters in the Bible. So this part has sense, but why drunken? I don't know. He didn't have anything to do with alcohol as I remember ._.

If I remember correctly; when Daniel and his friends were brought into Babylon to be the king's servants, they were supposed to be fed rich wines and meats because the king believed this would make them stronger. Daniel and his friends refused to eat these rich foods, however, asking to be fed on grains and water instead. After some coaxing, they struck up a deal with the food-server-dude (he was afraid that he would get in trouble if Daniel & company ended up being weaker than the others because of their different diet). It was decided that they would eat grains and drink water for one week, and if they were any weaker than the other men on the "normal" diet, they would have to live on the rich foods instead. At the end of the week, they were far stronger and energetic than everyone who had been eating meat/wine. So then everybody started eating grains and drinking water.

As far as I know, that's the only connection Daniel has to alcohol.

Exactly.

I'm doing this for all the songs, here is my interpretation ;) ... what do you think?

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, they left.

Lift off this blindfold, let me see again.

And bring back the water that your ships role in, in my heart you left a hole.

The tightrope that I'm walking, just sways and ties.

The devil, as he's talking, with those angel's eyes.

And I just wanna be there when the lightning strikes.

And the Saints go marchin in

And sing slow it down,

Through the chaos as it swirls

It's just us against the world.

Like a river to a raindrop,

I lost a friend.

My drunken as a Daniel in a lion's den.

And tonight I know it all has to begin again,

So whatever you do, Don't let go.

And if we could float away,

Fly up to the surface, and just start again.

And Lift off people trouble.

Just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us into roses in the rain

Just sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down.

Oh slow-ow-ow-ow it down.

Through the chaos as it swirls,

It's us against the world.

Through the chaos as it swirls,

It's us against the world.

I guess this is the best one this far... :)

thanks

btw, my first post here...

it's really nice that there are so many discussion about coldplay here..

cheers from Indonesia

You guys sure he says erodes?

And if we could float away,

Fly up to the surface, and just start again.

And Lift off people trouble,

Just the Roses in the rain

Just the Roses in the rain,

Just the Roses just the/i see Roses in the rain.

It might be roses. It would link to the White Rose movement which is one of the themes in the album according to past interviews. If so, the whole song is probably about the White Rose movement. The title is 'Us Against The World' after all.

Maybe. But erodes makes sense as well, doesn't it?

Before trouble erodes us in the rain. Trouble + erodes = make sense, and the rain can be just a beautiful addition. But roses can be sang too, as it may be a reference too.

Well, it can be almost everything and I think we can't be sure until Coldplay confirmes it on their record or we see the sheet music book ; o

He also sings "Rose" in "Cartoon hearts".

Seems to come up more often in the Songs.

Yeaah... I think with the "erodes us into roses in the rain" he plays with the words 3 times.

1) Erodes, being the verb and the king - despite the fact that's NOT the King from Daniel story, since he's Nebuchadnezzar, but would be a great pun anyway - in this case;

2) With "into roses" inserting the theme of the album in the lyrics;

3) Again with "into roses" for the sonority it has with "erodes us", that sounds like an AMAZING match.

But we'll just know with the official release of the lyrics. Putting aside all this biblical/graffiti/White Rose madness - or perhaps MAINLY for this madness -, this is a great song, and this'll be a great album.

I think the line is "Lift off before trouble erodes us in the rain." :)

I pretty much agree with the rest of the lyrics.

K I did my interpretation just now :)

Oh morning come bursting the clouds even

Lift off this blind fold let me see again

And bring back the water that your ships roll in

In my heart she left a hole

The tight rope that I’m walking just sways and ties

The devil as he’s talking with those angels eyes

And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes

And the saints go marching in

And sing, slow it down

Through chaos as it swirls,

It’s just us against the world

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend

My drunken as a Daniel in a lion’s den (?)

And tonight I know it all has to begin again

So whatever you do, don’t let go

And it we could float away

Fly up to the surface and just start again

And lift off before trouble just erodes us in the rain

Just erodes us in the rain

Just erodes us, just erodes us in the rain

Sing slow it down

Slow it down

Perfect except for the first line. Not really sure what he's saying.

Why does no one agree that it's "Oh morning come bursting the clouds, AMEN"?! It's so clear, and it rhymes with "Let me see again."

Could be . . .

I think there's a lot of possibilities for some of these lines, and the only way we'll be able to find them out for sure is either asking the Oracle (if she doesn't give one of her cryptic answers again, that is :P ) or waiting for the album

when i listened to it earlier, it almost sounded like he sang "oh morning come bursting the clouds singin'," but i'm not entirely sure. :P

I'm new, but fairly certain he says 'Amen' at the end of the first line.

The first time I heard the song, I could have sworn he says roses at some point towards the end. I'm not really sure where it comes in, but erodes and roses can sound very similar.

If I had to take a stab I'd say:

And lift up before trouble just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us, just be roses in the rain

The imagery works, because roses have a way of beading water and staying strong in the rain, so in the midst of trouble (rain) they keep their beauty and stay together.

I guess I'll just have to listen to it about 800 more times to be sure, oh well, it's a tough job, but someone has to do it. :P

She? I always thought it was a he.

She? I always thought it was a he.

Nope. And there's actually two Oracles, one is Vicky Taylor and the other one is . . . is it Debs, maybe? I can't remember :stunned:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

^i know Debs certainly is. until recently, i was under the impression that she was the only Oracle, but two actually does make sense... and it would also make sense for Vicky to be the other one. :P

Is Vicky the one that had birthday during one of the concerts and Chris wished her very best during In My Place solo?

This would be my interpretation:

Lift off this blind fold let me see again

I'm drunken as a devil in a lions dare

And tonight I know it all has to begin again

So whatever you do, don’t let go

Fly up to the surface and just start again

And lift off with no trouble

just be roses in the rain

just be roses in the rain

She just had a birthday a couple of days ago--I think that morning when the guys got back from Venice. I don't know anything about a shout-out during a concert, though
