Ah so that's her. I'm sorry, I really love Coldplay SOOOOOOOOO MUCH but I never kind of searched for who Debs is or what are the names of Roadies.

Sorry for offtop and thanks for an answer.

I see the only problems that we have are:

1) the clouds ...

2) ships... in

3) ... lion's den

4) roses/erodes.

About the first one...I really don't know now. But the second sounds to me like "row in".

And the forth. I'm sure it's "erodes us". Sure, roses would make also sense, but he doesn't sing any 'b' so it can't be "be roses". That's my opinion.

(Fuck I sound so pokemonish when I write in English -.-)

1) not sure about this one

2) I think it's either 'rowed in' or 'rode in' as that's the only thing that would make sense

3) maybe 'I'm as drunken as a devil in a lion's den'?

4) Fairly certain he says 'erodes' since I can't hear him sing a 'b' either

My interpretation:

Oh morning come bursting the clouds I'm in

Lift off this blind fold let me see again

And bring back the water, let your ships roll in

In my heart she left a hole

[...]

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend

My drunken head's a devil in a lions den

And tonight I know it all has to begin again

So whatever you do, don’t let go

And if we could float away

Fly up to the surface and just start again

And live love before trouble

just erodes us in the rain

just erodes us in the rain

just erodes us and see roses in the rain

I've just watched the videos over and over again, particularly watching Chris' and Will's mouths (that really helps!). I'm 99% sure about all of these, except for the "live love", but I am sure that neither Chris nor Will makes a "t" sound as in "lift", and the "v" sound is definitely there (so no "off").

Also, the changes I've made make the most lyrical sense: "come bursting the clouds I'm in, lift off this blindfold - let me see again" / "live love before trouble just erodes us in the rain - and see roses in the rain"

^ Not sure about those other lines, but I think you may be right about "morning came bursting these clouds I'm in" especially since it's followed by "lift off this blindfold..."

i.e. --> The clouds were blindfolding him, but now that they're gone, he can see again

Try watching Will's mouth rather than just listening ;)

i just watched it, making sure to pay attention to their mouths, and i did quite clearly hear "and lift off before trouble..." :P

i think that would also fit into the lyrics, since the lines before it talk about floating and flying away.

The devil as he’s talking with those angel’s eyes - i just think that lyric is so great

I agree! :nice:

Anyway it still seems "Daniel" to me... And at the start I think he says "they" after "the clouds", but I have no idea of what follows it...

  • 3 weeks later...

From this video shot by Snookerman, who talked about all the vids they shot in the HLH lyrics thread:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dha-oPjrepE&feature=view_all&list=PLFB2FC019F8EF5DC0&index=8]YouTube - ‪Coldplay - Us Against the World - Live @ "Where The Action Is" in Gothenburg, Sweden 28.06.2011 (HD)‬‏[/ame]

I mean. Sorry guys. Actually I'm not sure whether you'll like this or not. By going to their video (this was originally posted in the HLH lyrics thing) I listened to their live recording of UATW which is just about flawless and...

It's definitely "The Devil as he's talkin' to those angels eyes. Not with.

Less sure here. But. It really, really sounds like "My drunk hen has a Daniel in a lion's den" as well. Would drunk hen work? Like could he somehow mean a woman when he says that? As if she harbors something bad deep down when she's drunk, as a metaphor. Only think I could think of but it sounds pretty deep.

It also sounds surely as though he keeps repeating "just erodes us in the rain" and doesn't say roses at all.

I hear "oh, morning, come bursting the clouds. Amen."

I have no idea for the "has a Daniel" part.

Edit: Now I'm pretty sure about the Amen and Daniel part. I'm sure it says "(..) Daniel in a lion's den" because of Saint Daniel. Google/Wikipedia it. Which then makes me more sure that he says Amen at the beginning.

I can see "Us Against The World" becoming a lyrical motif for this album...

Think about it. The phrase was already used in "Major Minus" and UTAW (obviously.) UATW is a slow, acoustic song.

Now is it just me or is this starting to seem Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground-ish?

Here's mine

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, Amen.

Lift off this blindfold, let me see again.

And bring back the water that your ships roll in, in my heart she left a hole.

The tightrope that I'm walking, just sways and tides.

The devil, as he's talking, with those angel's eyes.

And I just wanna be there when the lightning strikes.

And the Saints go marchin in

Sing slowwwwww it down,

Through chaos as it swirls

It's just us against the world.

Like a river to a raindrop,

I lost a friend.

My drunkard has a Daniel in a lion's den.

And tonight I know it all has to begin again,

So whatever you do, Don't let go.

And if we could float away,

Fly up to the surface, and just start again.

Lift off before trouble.

Just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us in the rain,

Just erodes us it erodes us in the rain

Just sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down.

Oh slow-ow-ow-ow ow-ow-ow it down.

Through chaos as it swirls,

It's us against the world.

Through chaos as it swirls,

It's us against the world."

^I don't think so, esp if they have to repeat the word "world."

Here's my take on the entire song:

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds they mend,

Lift off this blindfold and let me see again,

Bring back the water that your ships rode in,

In my heart, you left a hole.

The tightrope that I'm walking sways and ties,

The devil as he's talking with those angel's eyes,

I just want to be there when the lightning strikes,

And the saints go marching in.

Sing slow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-it-down...

Through chaos as it swirls,

It's us against the world.

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend,

My drunken head's a Daniel in a lion's den,

And tonight I know it all has to begin again,

So whatever you do, don't let go,

And if we could just float away,

Fly up to the surface and just start again,

And lift off before trouble erodes in the rain,

Just erodes in the rain, just erodes in the rain...

...the rest is self explanatory. :p
