Pretty sure I heard clocks and dials. There are some repetitive lyrics throughout coldplay songs, references to clocks seems to be one. Though the whole crocodiles thing would be really interesting, also this is an epic song/[album] title.

K I'm bored, so heres my interpretation

They got one eye watching you

One eye on whatcha do

So be careful whose your talking to

They got one eye watching you

One eye on whatca do

So be careful what it is your trying to do

And be careful (mumbling)

And be careful where your walking (something something)

Ooh Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh Ooh

They got one eye on the road and one on you

X2

They got one eye watching you

One eye on whatcha do

So be careful cause' nothing they say is true

D-d-don't believe a word,

It's just us against the world

And we just gotta turn to be heard (..?)

I hear those clocks and dials ticking around the world

I hear those clocks and dials ticking, they go ticking around the world (sounds like crocodiles too)

Ooh Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh Ooh

They got one eye on the road and one on you

Ooh Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh Ooh

they got one eye on the road and ....

(no clue what is sung here)

Ooh Ooh Ooh, Ooh Ooh Ooh

They got one eye on the road and one on you

X2

The missing part in falsetto sounds like:

Here I'm climbing the steps/stairs

I got my left side by you

While my right hides under a chair

This is like a marching aggresive beat and like they are controlling and strict in a "authority" point of view , maybe thats why its called major minus

This is like he is kidnapping someone and driving them to a forest.

Here's my interpretation:

They got one eye watching you

One eye, what you do?

So be careful who it is you're talking to

They got one eye watching you

One eye, what you do?

So be careful what it is you're tryin' (to) do

And be careful (…) walk with you

And be careful when you're walking into view

Ooh-ooh-oooh

Ooh-ooh-oooh-oooh

Got one eye on the road and one on you

Ooh-ooh-oooh

Ooh-ooh-oooh-oooh

Got one eye on the road and one on you

They got one eye watching you

And one eye, what you do?

So be careful 'cause my friend, this is true

Bu-do-do-don't believe a word

It's just us against the world

And we just got a turn to be heard

I hear those crocodiles ticking 'round the world

I hear those crocodiles ticking, you go ticking 'round the world

I like this too. Let's construct the lyrics by using parts that seem to reference the White Rose Movement, like this one.

But I'm sure it's "so be careful" and not "sorta". That wouldn't make a lot of sense, would it.

hm dunno... that's what my ears clearly tell me!

at least chirs is putting some syllables (wtf?! hey, i'm really tryin' to do my best to sound english here, but dude, i'm sure i misspelled that one :D you got the gist of this word-accident) inbetween SO and BE

Hm I'm not sure. Btw I think you spelled it right by the way :D

try...

i'd like to share a recording with you...

an acoustic version (based on "my" lyrics though), not even sure if i got all chords right but it sounded good to me.

i hurriedly did it in twice the time the record plays (2 trys :D ).

i would want to hear constructive criticism, it's ok though if you just tell me your point of view...

i believe that i cannot sing, my voice is awful, but there are people that say i can... so hear for yourselves...

Fairly sure that these are the correct lyrics, but this is just what I hear. Don't take my word for it.

As for the song itself...I'm thinking it's like a combination between a love song and a protest song. I mean, the narrator is warning someone that they're being watched wherever they go. Things are dangerous, the "ticking crocodiles" are getting closer. Both the narrator and his partner are participating in some sort of dangerous protest movement (putting up graffiti? :P). "It's just us against the world, and we just got a turn to be heard." Though it could end very badly for both of them, instead of keeping his whole attention focused on the protest movement ("the road") and watching out for just himself, the narrator is keeping one eye on his love with the intention of protecting her. Or something...? I don't know, I can never put my thoughts into words. :embarrassed:

well i'm farily sure it says "You got one eye..." xD

slow down the track and listen closely

I think the song is more just generally a kind of protest-y song. Not very specific to people being in a protest movement, but just everyone. I feel it's more a bit of a protest song to people being judgemental, and that the government is always watching what you do and whether you are obeying the law and doing what you're told.

I think Chris wrote it thinking about the street art/graffiti thing, but I think he didn't necessarily wrote it about that, otherwise he'd probably be more specific and singing about spray cans and such:P Also I think Chris feels his songs mean whatever it means to you:P

So yeah, I think it's about the general idea of constantly being watched whether you're doing the right thing and in that protecting your loved one.

No, I don't think we would sing about graffiti and street art itself. He said they would use graffiti slogans and such as an inspiration for their songs. I do agree with the rest of what you're saying.

Well, by parts.

"They got one eye watching you

This is the version I hear the closest, and the one that makes more sense (IF we can say anything makes MORE sense here) to me. Despite the "they" part, that I really think it's "you", but it doesn't change the meaning at all: someone's watching you, and not in the "cool, father" way. I feel a sense of urgency in this song...

I think it makes sense  The narrator is telling the other person that they've got someone watching them.

I also have an idea about the crocodile reference (if Chris actually does say crocodiles instead of clocks and dials, which would make sense also)

When Captain Hook heard the ticking of the crocodile, he would always try to get away because he knew the crocodile was coming back for him and would ignore everyone else. In a sense, he knew how/why and, to an extent, when, he was going to die/be eaten. Maybe the narrator in MM is experiencing the same thing--they sort of know how/when/etc. they might die and it's a Major Minus for them (wouldn't that be depressing to know when you were going to die? :uhoh:)

I kinda forgot where I was going with this :sweatdrop: but that's the gist of it.

Oh, and dang. Long post :freak:

PERFECTLY what I thought! In the minute I heard "crocodiles ticking" I rememebered of Peter Pan - also because I wrote a song with the same construction and reference about six months ago :) Anyway. I believe that, in this reference, death is lurking, and she's got an eye on you (that would also be a nice pirate reference, uh? ;)), so you gotta be careful in what you do, and make the rest of your life worthwhile.

And, as they said, it would explain the title, somehow: the MAJOR MINUS is that you know death is coming, so hurry up with your bucket list! :D

PS: Sorry for the EVEN LONGER post :embarrassed:

Crocodiles does make sense, it's a reference to Peter Pan. In the story, Captain Hook is followed by a crocodile that wants to eat him. This croc previously swallowed a clock, so Hook can tell by the ticking when it's near. :)

As soon as i heard the lyric "i hear those crocodiles ticking round the world" (assuming it is crocodiles of course), i thought of that Peter Pan reference actually. Thinking about it, i think it probably IS crocodiles now, cos in the story, as hux90 said, Captain Hook can hear the crocodile that is after him cos it previously swallowed a clock and Hook can now tell when it's near cos he can he it ticking - imo the song seems to have quite an anxious, paranoid feel to it lyrically, there's a lot of "be careful what you do/be careful what it is you're trying to do" and "Don't believe a word, it's just us against the world," and a feeling of always looking over your shoulder eg "Got one eye on the road and one on you" - just like Captain Hook is always looking over his shoulder now for this crocodile that's after him.

It may turn out that i'm completely wrong of course, but that's my interpretation of it anyway.

I think it is "crocodiles" and not "clocks and dials", because you can clearly (?) hear an r in there.

Bet those two lines were written while watching tv with his children :P
