September 5, 200322 yr Re: na lets say it just a cool mix of the best two bands on the planet ! Oh, so you mean it has Travis as well? :P ^   Good one!
September 14, 200322 yr Radiohead vs. Colplay A big Radiohead fan here! And before you dismiss me offhand, please note that I DO enjoy Coldplay, yet I wonder what makes them so special as to command a message board such as this? In my opinion (which probably matter little around here), the best current bands around these days are: 1.)Radiohead 2.)U2 3.)Coldplay... In that order! Therefore, I am asking honest questions. What makes Coldplay so wonderful? I mean they are only two albums deep, and may very well be a flash in the pan. While their music is very pleaseing, most of Coldplay's tracks sound much the same, and they are not "pushing the envelope" in any way. On the other hand, Radiohead is just as fresh and viable as the days of OK Computer. In fact, many would argue that they are even more so today! Having said that, the reason I am here is to learn something from all of you. Maybe gain a better apreciation for Coldplay...And perhaps spread the good news according to Radiohead... Can anyone help?
September 14, 200322 yr omg it's like an hour after the first time i told you the time :o we're still awake! oh btw i'm going to see radiohead oct 1st this will be my first time seeing them.
September 14, 200322 yr I don't think I'm gonna go see them, are there still tickets available? I know it's 4:02 AM NOW!GO TO BED~ :D  :) I KNOW WE ARE STILL AWAKE, IT'S AMAZING, IT'S CAUSE WE ARE KEEPING EACH OTHER COMPANY THAT'S WHY ;)
September 15, 200322 yr yoyoyo im going to see radiohead in atlanta in october. dude... my favorite bands are coldplay u2 radiohead and the beatles. were practically the same person. coldplay im afraid doesnt match up to the other three, it is true, but theyre fresh and theyre cool and british. being british automatically makes you that much cooler. i think chris martin as a frontman is just so intriguing people get confused between what they like, him or his music. i fear that they will turn out to be a flash in the pan, but either way im sure theyre next album will kick ass even if it doesnt do so on the charts.

September 15, 200322 yr Can someone please tell me what makes Radiohead one of the best bands ever? As Nothing-Face said, it seems as if people think that Radiohead is able to push the envelope. Perhaps it is that they are very creative, but specifically, what is it musically that makes them a good band?
September 15, 200322 yr I dunno....I don't care much for Radiohead. :/ Please don't kill me people! :stunned:
September 15, 200322 yr Can someone please tell me what makes Radiohead one of the best bands ever? As Nothing-Face said' date=' it seems as if people think that Radiohead is able to push the envelope. Perhaps it is that they are very creative, but specifically, what is it musically that makes them a good band?[/quote'] Besides "pushing the envelope," as I've said, Radiohead are quite unique in that they can sell millions of albums, sell out nearly 80 or so shows a year, all without much radio airplay! Musically? I suppose they are a bit more cerebral then the common fare. They combine the odd meters, strange progresions, and enigmatic lyrics, all the time still staying (strangly) in the pop/rock genre. The fact that they are very experimental, though still very much mainstream is quite a difficult feat to accomplish, and Radiohead is doing it! I liken Radiohead vs. Coldplay to the early Beatles vs. the later Beatles. Coldplay is much like "Love Me Do," "I Saw Here Standing There," & "Yesterday;" while Radiohead is more akin to "Strawberry Fields Forever," "I Am The Walrus," & " Helter Skeltor." Though there is nothing at all wrong with the early Beatles stuff (Coldplay): Indeed, it is quite good; nevertheless, most listeners of the Beatles would prefer the later, more complex, thought provoking material. Does this make sense. The truth be told, I really hope Coldplay is not a flash in the pan. But, I fear if they stick to the same formula, if they do not progress and/or evolve, they will peter out very soon. Thoughts?
September 15, 200322 yr Although I am not a total music expert, I can understand your Beatles analogy. I do think that if Coldplay does not progress, they will sound very much the same and their music will be boring, but at the same time, I would not like them to evolve so much that their type of music changes. Radiohead to me is like contemporary art. I find contemporary art strange and it focuses more on meaning/creativity than traditional art. Simple for me does not necessarily mean that it is worse, so sometimes I don't mind less cerebral songs.. Some of radioheads songs are ok, but the songs progress very slowly - I told my sis the other day that it would be good background music. It is interesting how they have so many fans - I guess your explanation partially answer my questions above.. but anyways... it would be interesting to see what other people think about Coldplay...
September 15, 200322 yr coldplay is far better than radiohead. but im a sucker for the slow loves songs
September 15, 200322 yr personally I feel that Radiohead ARE the best band of the times with Coldplay leading a chasing pack... but it's unfair to compare them too closely as Radiohead have over twice the time in the industry behind them now - I just love them both in many ways :D
September 15, 200322 yr From Hicksy's sig: *Just because you feel it, It doesn't mean it's there* :stunned:
September 16, 200322 yr In my opinion (which probably matter little around here), the best current bands around these days are: 1.)Radiohead 2.)U2 3.)Coldplay... In that order! i agree..mebbe even u2 first but right now for me i agree w/you..sorry u guys but i cant help liking rh and u2 before cp
September 16, 200322 yr i think that a majority of us would probably agree that radiohead are better than coldplay. i know the reason i'm here, and not at a radiohead board somewhere (even though radiohead is my favorite band), is because people here are all really nice, while a large number of radiohead fans tend to be obnoxious snobs. that, and i really do like coldplay, enough to have seen them live three times (once more than i've seen radiohead, i should add)
September 16, 200322 yr my personal opinion is more based on the fans than anything else. Most proper bands around are talented enough to write and play their own music, and do it live etc, unlike the stupid pop artists who last a year or so and then vanish into nothing more than backup roles in musicals. Now, radiohead have a cult following, who for the most part, will hear no persuasive arguement that says they are not really moving forward, that their work sounds the same now as it did 8 years ago and that they're losing that edgier mainstream sound they had, indeed most refuse to accept that radiohed are mainstream. The fact is, they are, and they play a very good marketing game. The fans believe it's cult and none mainstream and that due to very little airplay (although enough on the correct music stations throughout the world and music videos) they play it well. Well enough for it to do the selling of the albums and shows. And now you see it on this board. "radiohead are amazing" and everyone just agrees, in a somewhat peer pressure thing. but still I don't rate radiohead as one of the best bands of our times, their lyrics sound somewhat the same and mostly the sound remains the same in songs. Infact i can't stand the new radiohead stuff. I find it extremelly bland. I believe what makes radiohead good is the constant talking up by the fans. i also think that U2 are well past their best days. Their songs have gone from a more thought provoking raw sound, to a more uplifting pop beat. Why? simply to remain popular and sell records, because that's the way the music industry is going at present. As for coldplay, although i like more coldplay songs than radiohead, only just, and i obviously like a lot more u2 songs than either i believe that coldplay plug the gap inbetween these two bands. they borrow some of radioheads darker sound and have somewhat sounding riffs from time to time, but also plug into the more poppier beat that u2 have been using recently. So the result is one that gets a lot of airplay, and fills in the alternative music gap for a lot fo people. But this is all my opinion, as is everything else in this thread. feel free to agree or disagree.
