me likes Coldplay better too! *runs away too!*

good argument Majson! I think the bands are really different anyways.

Coldplay is the best band ever period! :D but i also like radiohead, travis and muse.. that's it!

I don't like comparing bands, each band has their own special quality but I do see how a lot of people would say that Radiohead is a far better band than Coldplay. But I think that's what makes a band so interesting, the fact that they have different songs and different ideas and so on. It really doesn't matter to me who is better than who, its all in your past experiences and what you personaly relate to that makes you chose to like a certain band more than any other one

(I don't even know if I'm making sense right now, cos I'm so tired. I think I'll just take off to bed :dozey: :snore:

I love Coldplay. I love Radiohead.

Although, I think Coldplay is somewhat more easy on the ear. What I mean is you can play the whole album all at once, whereas with Radiohead, I can rarely listen to a whole album in one go. Their songs have so much going on in them. Maybe I'm just stupid I dunno :dozey:

anyway  you can't compare them, as Hicksy said, Radiohead have been around for a substantially longer period of time than Coldplay

Radiohead is more arty than Coldplay, Coldplay is more melodic. Some days I think Radiohead is better some days I think Coldplay is better. After the next album I will make my decision because I feel like Coldplay still has so much more to prove as a band, and they want to experiment more.

yeah, you all have good points there! i'm a huge fan of both coldplay and radiohead... and i can never decide which band is better... :/ oh no, wait! i can! coldplay is better! :D nah, that's just my opinion. i can see why lots of people consider radiohead a better band.

oh, and we can't forget about travis too! they're too damn good!!!

Radiohead vs. Coldplay ... that's a tough one.

I'd take Radiohead. They tend to travel with more equipment and personel. Those are always good in a fight.

I don't know this for sure, but Chris Martin seems pretty much like a pacifist. That won't help in a mano a mano.

No, I think I'd go with Radiohead. Thom's small ... but willing.

Can someone please tell me what makes Radiohead one of the best bands ever? As Nothing-Face said' date=' it seems as if people think that Radiohead is able to push the envelope. Perhaps it is that they are very creative, but specifically, what is it musically that makes them a good band?[/quote']

Good music.

Doesn't get more complicated than that. I don't say these things to be either trite to flippant, but the ability to keep putting out engaging music that both challenges and intrigues your listener is something most successful bands can not do. Radiohead continues to write and release compelling music. Couple that with the fact that they push that proverbial envelope in what they offer your typical pop music fan and you've got a band which a few will proport to being the best ever. They're different enough to have a niche.

I don't know that I disagree or agree with what I just wrote let alone the question. I just think there's enough there for a good number of people to tightly latch onto.

ah too hard to choose, i love them both but i think i have to be in the mood to listen to certain radiohead albums, but i could listen to the bends or HTTT whenever and the same with both coldplay albums so i choose...........erm...... idlewild!! :P no cant compare the two of them!!! :smug:

Coldplay are doomed, fucking doomed.

Coldplay's first two albums have done brilliantly, which means they are huge, which means a lot of expectation on their third album. Because theyre often compared with Radiohead and U2, as well as the fact that they're songs are beginning to sound too much alike, Im pretty certain that the Coldplay fanbase will be looking for something totally fresh and new for Coldplay's next album, and I definately dont think that they are clever enough to do that.

Its all very well being clever enough to market bad pop jingles but you cant keep doing the same trick, and therefore Coldplay cant possily last much longer.

Whoa! Captain Optimism!

I don't think it's that clear cut.

Coldplay have already indicated that they intent to change it up, trying to avoid "soft rock" in the future. The fact that the band is comprised of good musicians and have a great songwriter bodes well for their future success. They have a fan base that's going to listen to their next album no matter what, and in truth that's the hardest part of being a musician: Getting people to listen.

BUT ... even if they don't change one bit ...

They'll be fine. Look around. There are TONS of people making money off of writing good, poppy songs with tight melodies, applicable themes, and a strong dose of sentimentality. Paul Smon's whole career has been defined by this. James Taylor, who I kind of consider a hack, is living the good life. Sting has been riding this train. "Maturing" acts like U2 and the Chili Peppers continue to drift toward to mainstream, not away.

Coldplay isn't going anywhere.

*applauds* ;)

If that post WASNT a joke then you are totally out of touch with pop culture.

People like James Taylor dont have to change too much, because of the style they first introduced themselves into, which is a timeless one. The reason U2 and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are still shooting up into mainstream is because there has been progression between these bands, be it good or bad.

Coldplay arent Paul Simon or James Taylor, like the Chilli Peppers, U2, and Radiohead, they will have to change to stick around. Radioheads style over Kid A and Amnesiac hardly changed at all, and because of that their popularity went down (In America, in the UK however their fans remain loyal). Even with no singles Kid A did very well as it was a new turn from OK Computer, but after Amnesiac it appeared people were caring less.

Now, onto Coldplay. Bands like Travis and the Stereophonics can get away with not big changes because they arent THAT big, whereas Coldplay are the biggest band in the world and therefore have to pull off something special to keep this popularity up, and I just know they dont have the talent to pull off anything special.

I think Coldplay may maintain some form of popularity off the next album but that will be only through the strong fanbase, and not the mainstream posers who dont actually buy their albums or truly give a shit about the band themselves.

And what the hell makes Coldplay great musicians? The drummer is decent, the bass player is decent, Guy is pretty good, and Chris Martin is decent, but hes a terrible songwriter.

Shit I keep mixing them up, the guitarist is pretty good.

Jonny's the best...well at least I think so.

But back to the topic...I think your arguement is very interesting...

Haha no you wouldn't want me to go on...trust me! I just think you make good points in your posts, though rf_ucsd does too. I agree with both of you, but in different ways.

Hehe Im fine if you disagree with my points either, thats alright.

And I agree with you on that other poster, some good points made there.

Radiohead, has some good numbers but must are kinda' weird (in my opinion)

U2, very good ofcourse, but it's getting old ;) Time for something very goods but also something new, here we have;

Coldplay!!

Off Topic (sorry)- ^ Your old sig is really good Don't Panic! Even though it's the worst pic of Guy in existence! :D
