LP5 Comparison

Featured Replies

For me at the moment it goes.

Viva la Vida > AROBTTH > LP5 > X & Y > Parachutes.

All of them are or will be musical masterpieces though.

And yet you have the X&Y artwork all over your signature and avatar :P

As far as artwork goes:

X&Y = A Rush of Blood to the Head > Viva > Parachutes

X&Y's artwork is brilliant in its simplicity. Now if only the music matched...

Ideally LP5 will be better than everything ever, especially if they have more stuff that's similar to MTM (not necessarily in sound, but the song did the best job of pushing their sound in a new direction while holding on to what made them great in AROBTTH).

I don't find it very easy to make this kind of a comparison though. I have a feeling that LP5 will be the best album thus far, the way that Viva was very coherent and well-put together with great songs on it. LP5 will obviously have a theme, and I think everything will come together that makes it the best album to listen to. In terms of individual songs, I like UATW, MTM, and HLH more than anything they've ever done.

Owned jajajajaja. I liked the artwork from Viva...the costumes not too much.

I doubt that LP5 artwork will be great... I find it so simple (EP) i hope they change it to a big wall with all the songs in graffiti.

I guess I should second my 'first of all':

Please listen to Cemeteries Of London, 42, and Yellow. The lyrics make no sense at all. Even Chris admits he "still doesn't know what the hell it's about", but that's not what makes an amazing song.

Have you listened to most Beatles stuff??? Holy CRAP!! Come Together makes NO sense!

Cemeteries and 42 make complete sense if you listen to them in the context of the album as a whole, rather than as single songs.

Well, I know a story I read once, about Viva being a "hidden concept album". In the story every song had it's own meaning with a character. I'll translate that and make a thread so you can read that.

dude if you don't feel comfortable using the < > signs, try this one ;) =

it's called "equal" :laugh3:

Hahahaha. Now how did I not think of that? Doy!

I can't judge the album until I can listen to it all the way through. I did listen to about 30 of my favoriteColdplay songs at work today though with CB, HLH, ETIAW and MTM mixed in (Can't stand MM, don't care for UATW and won't listen to PoC until I can get a clear version) and i'd say Charlie Brown was top 5-6, HLH was in the 10-12 range, ETIAW was in the 13-15 range and MTM was in the 20-23 rangeso that is pretty promising.

As far as the first four albums:

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

A Rush of Blood to the Head

Parachutes

X&Y

For me, so far, i would rank them:

Viva>LP5>AROBTTH>Parachutes=X&Y

My reasoning: Viva has the most variety and variation in sound, i think. And it's their only album on which i like every song (except reign of love, but it's hidden anyway). From what i've heard on LP5, it's possibly going to be on par with or better than Viva, but i'm not a fan of UATW or Major Minus. However, i absolutely love HLH, MTM, and Charlie Brown, and perhaps i might end up loving ever other track that we haven't heard yet.

I think i'm seeing a pattern in myself. I think i am more fond of Coldplay's faster, more upbeat, or more elaborate-sounding tracks more so than their slower stuff. That probably has a lot to do with the way i've ranked the albums (:

I think I'm gonna like it more than viva... more experimentation going on. Wasn't a huge fan of lost, 42 or yes. So I think between this new album and parachutes, it might be my favourite. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Okay, okay. Here we go. Definitive album placement.

A Rush of Blood to the Head>Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends>X&Y>Parachutes.

Let's start with Parachutes. Great music, lyrics lacking. Amazing album and honestly. There's only two bands who have even one album I might take over it. Radiohead and Keane. But even as Coldplay's lowest album, it's still among the best of the best.

Next X&Y. Same with Parachutes. Great melodies, unimpressive lyrics for the most part. The thing here for me is these two are really close just like ARoBttH and VlVoDaAHF are. When you compare. X&Y has 13 songs over 3 and half minutes, and Parachutes has 8. That says a lot for me. If Parachutes had as more songs (and good ones at that) It would probably rank higher than X&Y). If any songs really take it over Parachutes for me it has to be "Talk" and "A Message".

Then Viva. Great melodies and well crafted lyrics. The most diverse by far and opened me up to many new sounds. I love the cultural 'flavors' of the album. From Africa to South America you can hear it and it's brilliant. A lot of experimentation. Their talent really flows. The one problem i have is I wish it were longer. And they really shouldn't have left off Rain Day. I dare say it may be better than any of the songs that made it on the album musically.

And of course. A Rush. Best melodies ever and good lyrics. It's not as creative or venturing as VlV but the melodies strikes me as better and somehow more raw sounding. My favorite instrument is the piano and it's prevalence here probably helps a bit. Simply put. It's longer than Viva by 10 minutes which is a + and. If you have The Scientist and Clocks, well, you simply cannot lose.

I personally believe the new album will either be between A Rush and Viva or Viva and X&Y. All the songs sound promising, especially Moving to Mars, Hurts Like Heaven (now that I can understand the lyrics, back when it first came out i was clueless), and Us Against the World. MtM and UAtW may not be on it but. I have a really good feeling they've kept the best songs from us. Why wouldn't you leave them to be a surprise and keep them a secret? That's just what I think anyway.

i actually don't care, it can't be bad, it's coldplay...

as long as it is better than this song with 4 letters: (fill in the gaps =P )

Back on topic :P. For me: AROBTTH > Viva la Vida = Parachutes > X&Y. I love X&Y it just happens to be my least favorite. I'm hoping LP5 rates at least on the same level as Parachutes and Viva. I would be completely amazed if it tops AROBTTH, but I'll just have to wait and see. I'll give my true opinion once I've actually listened to LP5 a couple times.

Based off what I've heard so far..

LP5<All of Coldplay's previous work

Okay, okay. Here we go. Definitive album placement.
