LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

I'm a big fan of the synths on X&Y but not so much on GS and MX. X&Y was perfect. [emoji108]

The synths on X&Y really captured that space-y, something-is-different theme!

More strings and some horns wouldn't bother me :)

I think this coming week is when the real teasing starts...

We'll probably get a single not this next week, but the following Monday or Tuesday.

Yes it did! I love the space rock vibe it has. It's my favorite album. [emoji2]

I know. It's sucks to wait for new music. [emoji30][emoji22] 2 weeks can't come fast enough.

Hey, look at it this way: We've all waited for almost more than 9 months, so 2 weeks can't be that bad in comparison! :)

I know. Lol. It's so close i can taste it! [emoji104][emoji51][emoji23]

Spacey synths as on X&Y would be welcome from my part, poppy cheesy ones as in MX not so much.

And yes, Coldplay going semiclassical wouldn't be that bad. Viva was already in that direction at some points. Great modern music such as Pink Floyd's has been influenced by classical music.

I'd love for them to use more exotic instruments and sounds!

We know they're using horns, which they haven't used before except on now my feet won't touch the ground which is incredible. [emoji2][emoji111]️

Didn't they also use the saxophone on Swallowed In The Sea?

I don't think so. I don't hear one in the song.

Oh. I didn't know that was the modular synth.

And is that such a bad thing? I mean, Coldplay have always - always - experimented new sounds and so far they have always sounded interesting. I'm sure they will sound interesting this time as well.

Not at all. A lot of people have no understand of the depth you can take modular synths. Radiohead has pretty much mastered the art of using them in a fantastic way, but it goes far beyond the whole "beep boop" sound people imagine. I really hope they use them for the final product.

That's Jonny's amazing guitar art, if I hear correctly.

The only thing i hear is jonny's guitar and the synths.

Just went to the CP facebook page and nearly got a heart attack when I read the words "We're pleased to reveal...." but it was only referring to that stupid shirt !

Did that happen to anyone else ?

I think the horns sound perfect on NMFWTTG and I'm hopeful to hear some similar stuff on the album.

That's true. If Coldplay are using those synths, I don't think they'll get stuck on the "basic" sounds. They'll create more interesting ones and I'm eager to hear them.

The last of what the band did for the most recent era is often indicative of the next thing to come. The more stripped down songs from PM foretold the sound they wanted on MX but didn't have enough time to implement. Man, I can't imagine how amazing that album would've been if they went through with it, even if we were only just getting it now. And Up in Flames, the last MX song recorded, foretold the kind of music we would get on GS, even if I think it's much better than GS's songs. Which makes me think AYF and GS could be a precursor to what AHFoD is like. I can dream.

I hate to be the pessimist but from what I've heard of Coldplay's most recent synth work, especially PoC and what we got on GS (excluding Midnight), I'm not so sure. Plus considering who is producing the album with them, it's not looking promising. All I can hear is EDM and my teardrops. :(

I doubt AYF is some sort of prequel to AHFOD. It's a dark, dark song. As for GS, I'm not so sure. It is brighter that AYF but it lacks the color the band has been promising for LP7. On a side note, I think we'll get to hear Will's drums again on the upcoming album, just like in GS.

I wouldn't be too harsh on PoC (we had a long discussion about it here). The guys simply tried to experiment something different. Honestly, I've never heard a song similar to PoC. Its use of synths is unique and it fits very well in the album imo.

And I actually like most synths in GS. The ones in True Love are magical imho.

If AHFOD follows the same path I won't be sad (but I still want some rock to be included).

Will HAS to play his regular drums again! I miss his crazyness.

Remember him playing drums on GPASUYF in the Live 2012 DVD? That moment was insane!!

Yes! It was crazy! If he hit his drums any harder, he'd break them! [emoji23] GPASUYF is always so intense played live! [emoji106]
