They can have one final push to get rid of any merchandise from their previous era and then turn around and reveal merchandise sporting their new artwork and themes.

So, on the old GS tracklisting, there were the songs The Race and Tomorrow/World Without You (I'm not sure if those titles refer to the same song or not). It's likely that something cut from GS was probably too "bright" and "colorful." I think that is why ASFOS almost didn't make it onto the record. Could any of those more upbeat leftovers appear on AHFOD? It's always possible for a leftover from one album to at least be considered for the next. The Man Who Swears from Viva became Major Minus from MX and Famous Old Painters was considered for MX. Similarly, Tomorrow from MX was considered for GS.
