A random thought just popped into my mind...

 

So, on the old GS tracklisting, there were the songs The Race and Tomorrow/World Without You (I'm not sure if those titles refer to the same song or not). It's likely that something cut from GS was probably too "bright" and "colorful." I think that is why ASFOS almost didn't make it onto the record. Could any of those more upbeat leftovers appear on AHFOD?

 

It's always possible for a leftover from one album to at least be considered for the next. The Man Who Swears from Viva became Major Minus from MX and Famous Old Painters was considered for MX. Similarly, Tomorrow from MX was considered for GS.

 

I think Tomorrow will be on AHFOD. It's been cut from both MX and GS. They're are very eager to get that song out. [emoji2][emoji106]

(Slightly off-topic) I'd be fine with Chris just sitting down at his piano during a concert and playing something solo like Bloodless Revolution or The Fall of Man. I'd be the only one singing along though. :P

 

Anyways yes, I have read in a few places that The Man Who Swears is an embryonic Major Minus. I also hear Charlie Brown in a few of those demos but I think it came about separately.

Now that I think about it, most of my favorite songs are Coldplay's darkest (ARoBttH, Violet Hill, Yes, Twisted Logic, Swallowed in the Sea, Animals, Murder) :P

I think Amsterdam is a bit dark and so are Low, Oceans, and Prospekt's March. Those darker moments are actually some of the best. I'm sure we'll get at least one song like that on AHFOD.

For me those two doesn't qualify as dark songs. The lyrics may be negative but for me, a dark song needs to be underlined by an overall dark sound.

Otherwise you could even classify Viva La Vida as a dark song.

That's exactly what I meant. As I said, you classify it as dark due to the lyrics, but I wouldn't because for a song to be dark as a whole it can't have an uplifting sound and melody.

I knw VLV is a living paradox - one of the most cheerful melodies ever combined with very negative lyrics. To me, it has always meant to symbolize the discrepancy between the king's personal downfall and the greatness of the revolution, which is reflected in the soaring melody and chants.

I really hope there's a 'dark' song or two on AHFOD. The two best songs on Ghost Stories for me were both dark: Midnight and Oceans.

 

Something like Faultline ft Chris Martin - Where Is My Boy would be perfect ;)
