September 1, 201510 yr Nice and thoughtful comment! I'd like to add to the fact that Chris is potentially the world's best melodist the fact that he has one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, singing voices in contemporary music. Personally, I like that they are a soft-rock band rather than hard rock, although I think the thing they excel most at is when their soft rock has a clear edge to it (Politik, Shiver, Cemeteries of London,...) To me, elaborated lyrics without great instrumentation and melody in a song are somewhat worthless (if i want that, I read a poem), that's why I forgive Coldplay the sometimes not so great lyrics. Generally I believe, however, that the lyrical vagueness adds to the relatability and helps the songs create emotions when you listen to them, and I don't mind it. Sometimes emotions are better captured and reverb more powerfully in simple lines than in elaborated ones. Oh, and if I were to compare bands by measuring their output of timeless and powerful melodies (which is subjective, but still), I have no doubt Coldplay would be the world's best band by far in that regard !! And I'd like to add to that....the vast range of emotions their songs produce, even within the same song, is what makes them incredible! There's a song for every feeling!
September 1, 201510 yr *Puts arms in the air* Release something Coldplay! Ease our suspense in some way! I don't really like the song im about to play on, but hey why not. "Coldplay song/album goin up, On a Tuesday"

September 1, 201510 yr It's now September in most of the world... maybe the 14th or 15th will be the day, both dates are right before the iHeart festival
September 1, 201510 yr LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams" What CP should do for the LP7 tour is make the stage themed the era of the song being played (Ex. Cosplay, Colors, Artwork displays) For an example, when Viva La Vida is beimg played, Chris should dress up a a medieval king (He should change pretty quick) or when something from Parachutes or X&Y, he should wear an afro wig like the one he used to have back in those eras. And maybe even the elephant costumes from Paradise. They could also bring back a globe to the stage like from Parachutes. And when each song is played, the artwork of that song/album will come up behind them.
September 1, 201510 yr If it only involves the background artwork, alright. But dressing up, that would be, errrr, a little weird I guess ?

I don't mean to be sarcastic, but I surely can't be the only one who thinks all the pomp and extravagance of their live shows is at worst tacky and at best slightly unnecessary? Let's do away with all the confetti, fireworks etc and just have the lads playing their instruments. Your idea comes off as if I buy tickets I'm going to the theater or a musical feat Coldplay (;))

Chris is not Peter Gabriel, he should never do that. And I love Peter Gabriel.
September 1, 201510 yr I used to think Coldplay were the best band in the world. They just had so many great songs! As the first band I loved I think this is understandable - but then as you discover more and music their basic faults start to appear as clearly their unique brilliance always did. I know that I'll always love large parts of their discography because, put simply, Chris Martin might very well be the worlds greatest melodist. He's incredible. And that gives them such a solid base to build every song up from - granted, the ambition and creativity with which they've done this varies from album to album but when they get it right it can lead to some of the most gorgeously constructed, indelibly melodic rock/pop around. They have such a knack for just nailing the instrumentation style and make the production compliment that perfectly. Take Viva, that sounds so grand and uplifting and it's because they got understood how to bring out the melodies perfectly. The same is true of AROBTTH and its intimate, intense style. Even when the overall album isn't great, they always get the overall sound right. However it's when you get past the melodies and production that some cracks begin to show, especially when viewed in contrast to several other more artistically developed bands or artists, and you see why they are not in fact considered the best band in the world. The lyrics are trite at worst, mediocre usually, and great rarely. After you've heard Bob Dylan, it's hard to get excited about vague, surface-level lines like "How long must you wait for it? How long must you pay for it?" The instrumentation often feels too safe for its own good - after you've heard heavier, more aggressive rock it's hard to feel thrilled by the guitar breakdowns Violet Hill. I often find myself wondering how much more intense and powerful such songs would be in the hands of other, less "soft" rock bands. And then you have the creative nose-dive most agree they have taken post-2009, which has been discussed so many times I don't need to run over it again here. And they're not the best band in the world because they never depart too far from the basic formula that underpins most music - Viva planted the seeds but they never allowed that creativity to grow. The great bands - Radiohead, The Beatles, even U2 in their own way created new and original ways of writing their songs, which Coldplay have never done. However, despite all their faults, I believe Coldplay were - and still can be - an absolutely superb band, certainly not deserving of all of the hate and disdain then recieve from music fans generally. When they make the music compliment the melody there's no one else that can match the universal beauty and appeal of their songs. They're not perfect, but they're pretty damn good. PS. All of this is, of course, completely off topic - but I think it's very interesting how your perception of a band can change over time, especially when you start appreciating others more and more. Couldn't have said it better. Did anything significant happen in here in my two weeks of absence? No :\
September 1, 201510 yr Did anything significant happen in here in my two weeks of absence? Yes, you missed a significant amount of speculation, lamenting, mock lyrics, and off-topic Coldplay-was-better-earlier-when-they-did-rock discussion.
September 1, 201510 yr Is the iHeart Festival going to be streamed anywhere? Yes I'll believe there will be some sort of a live stream involving Yahoo...here's the link: https://screen.yahoo.com/live/event/iheartfestival-1
September 1, 201510 yr A head full of questions is what we're all having right now. Give us a date/single/artwork/anything! I really hope some new songs will be played on iHeart Festival

September 1, 201510 yr Did anything significant happen in here in my two weeks of absence? The band broke up citing Jonny's alleged animal prostitution ring being a distraction for the rest of them.

If there will be a youtube stream I guess it would be tweeted out by Coldplay or perhaps just on iheartradio's youtube page here: https://www.youtube.com/user/iheartradio
