I went out last night and the radio at the place I was at played Talk. Strange timing.

It's the way of the universe to have the Oldplayer's back once in a while 😉😁

Songs like Coloratura and Arabesque frustrate me because they prove Coldplay can still make powerful, boundary-pushing and highly creative music, but they actively choose not to 90% of the time.

I'm just hoping there's some sort of resemblance to the X&Y sound in LP9. Moving To Mars is a great example of a non-Oldplay song that's like that. It reminds me of What If. But I also want someth

Yeah it's so weird My Universe and Coloratura are going to be on the same album, I feel like track track 10-12 is going to be very this:

Well, I guess it's time to talk about another release...

I'll give Moon Music some mild credit—it feels like a more genuine effort compared to MOTS, but that's not exactly a high bar. There's not much that really stands out, though. The title track is pleasant enough. 🌈 is easily the best track on the album for me, and the one I've found myself returning to today. AETERNA is a decent dance track, too. It’s not what most Oldplayers are looking for, but let's be honest, that ship sailed long ago.

And that’s where the positivity stops. My main issue? The lyrics. They’re just so cheesy. This barely sounds like music for adults anymore. Chris seems to be stuck in this lullaby-like cadence for the piano ballads, and it makes them tough to listen to. I don’t get what he's going for here—you don’t need lyrics and vocals this basic and corny to appeal to a wide audience. It’s been said before, but they’re basically making Subaru commercial music and selling it on QVC. I could live with a more pop sound if the songs didn’t feel so empty. Please, give us something with more substance.

As for the mixing, it’s mostly just Chris and a drum machine. You’d barely know Johnny was even there on most of these tracks. Overall, it's just kind of... meh. 😑

I do think iAAM is pretty good. It sounds so much like DAAHF. Right down to the production, which is strange for this era of the band's career. When Jonny's solo starts a couple minutes in, I'm practically expecting Chris to start singing "no I don't wanna battle from beginning to end..."

The "Full Moon" edition of I Am A Mountain sounds like one of the old leaked Viva demos. Just Chris + his piano works surprisingly well.

🌈, the title track, One World, The Karate Kid, and A Wave are also highlights for me.

However, as for the rest of the album + the Full Moon version... so much of it is unlistenable. It's a shame because I think they actually had about an EP's worth of decent material and could have gone the Prospekt's March route instead of lumping it in with something as bland as Good Feelings. It would've helped to remove Max Martin from the equation.

This is so far the best description of Moon Music I've read on the forum!

haven't logged into this site in years haha..i remember posting on here as a teenager and being sad I missed the peak of this forum but it seems like it was busy even back in 2017-19 compared to now. i definitely don't listen to coldplay as much but still think about them sometimes since i was so obsessed. I haven't really listened to anything post-EL other than hearing Higher Power in public places sometimes but I'm scared to listen to MOTS. is there anything worth listening to from their recent discography?

Music of the Spheres got a lot of fan hate except for one song called Coloratura which is a 10 min long prog epic and is regarded as one of the bands best songs ever. Definitely worth listening to that if nothing else, but the rest of the album I personally find enjoyable as it’s full of pop bangers. It’s only downfall is you don’t hear much Jonny on this album and/or his guitar is heavily filtered and produced.

Moon Music has some more pop bangers but it is also really well produced. It’s eclectic (eg iAAM has this core Viva/MX full band sound followed by the entrancing techno dance track AETERNA) but flows really nicely and has some really nice ambient moments and things that will tickle the ears of Oldplayers. The whole album is worth a listen, there is no clear favourite unlike MOTS. Only downside that fans find frustrating is the seemingly generic lyricism and way to many la la la’s across the album. Despite that, the way Chris sings them is very heartfelt and genuine which shows he means what he sings. Some are even saying that this is the best album since Mylo Xyloto
