The rumors continue!!!

Coldplay heading to the Super Bowl

Live show veterans face competition from Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift

Hot booking ... Coldplay are also headlining Glastonbury this year

CHRIS MARTIN better start buying in fireworks and funny costumes, as we’re told that COLDPLAY are being lined up for next year’s Super Bowl half-time performance.

The band are in talks to fill the headline slot in February, which is always backed by the most extravagant of productions.

Last year KATY PERRY stole the show by riding on stage on top of a giant lion, dancing with a pair of sharks and singing with LENNY KRAVITZ and MISSY ELLIOTT before soaring off on a shooting star.

Two years before that BEYONCE brought her old pals KELLY ROWLAND and MICHELLE WILLIAMS back for a DESTINY’S CHILD reunion.

But if anyone can top all of that, it’s live show veterans Coldplay.

A music insider told us: “The Super Bowl offer is a no-brainer for the band.

“It’s the biggest show in the world and they reckon it’s finally their time to step up and do it.

“Granted you don’t get paid a lot to do it, but the exposure you get in return is huge. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet but they’re definitely in the running.”

They may not be the only act involved, however, as NFL bosses are thought to be going all out for what will be the Super Bowl’s 50th anniversary.

The first artist will be announced on Thursday, with TAYLOR SWIFT and MAROON 5 also heavily linked to the slot.

Coldplay will also headline next year’s Glastonbury festival, but this sounds better already.

As much as I'd love to see Coldplay performing the super bowl half-time show, shouldn't it be headlined by American acts, sicne it's an American event? Don't get me wrong, Paul McCartney and The Who were awesome, but I think the biggest event on the American sporting calendar should have an American act at the helm.

And I say this out of empathy; our two biggest sporting events, the AFL and NRL Grand Finals, are always invaded by some American or British artist! :laugh3:

They'll probably play a medley just like everybody who plays at the Super Bowl nowadays. Not that there's anything wrong with that because of time constraints, but... I personally want to hear entire songs.

U2's halftime show with the 9/11 tribute was amazing; nobody else has matched it for me. Could Coldplay reach that level?

The current trend is to include a special guest so Beyonce would probably be their choice (even though she has performed in the past).

U2's halftime show was legendary and better than any others so far:D

(I'd rather Coldplay chose Noel Gallagher over Beyonce)

Hate the Super Bowl and American Football in general but I do like the half time show and that U2 half time show in 2002 was on another level. Beautiful Day and then a truly moving versions of MLK and Where The Streets Have No Name. Still the high water mark that is unlikely to be bettered.

Why are you all against Coldplay doing the Superbowl show ? AHFOD Era Coldplay is exactly catering towards the masses of people who watch it.

Because it gives people the impression that Coldplay is some larger-than-life band. You may not know this, but here in the US, the Super Bowl is the most watched TV show ever....each year it breaks it's own record for number of viewers. This means that millions of people (many of which are people who have never heard the band before) are getting the wrong impression of who Coldplay is and what their true sound is.

This means that saying, "I like Coldplay" conjures up images and sounds of Chris dancing while singing ASFOS or Paradise, not Chris at the piano playing songs like Politik or Clocks.

I would think that a Super Bowl performance would be a mix of all eras, but I'd rather T-Swift do it, she's more fit for the job lol

I know. I was actually being sarcastic, sorry for not being clear about that. :)

Funny, I thought you were quite serious when you said it - I even gave you a thumbs up lol :laugh3:

I'm not American but know it's pretty much like the biggest sporting event (if not show) on earth... I have mixed feelings- on the one hand they have made a very populist album for the masses so something like Super Bowl halftime would make sense particularly if they continue to look to expand their fan base, but on the other hand they would probably only perform their very mainstream/poppy songs, which would misrepresent what they're about (although a whole new group of people could then be introduced to the band and eventually find out about their earlier work). Idk, but on balance I feel I should support it if it is what they actually want to do...
