November 24, 20196 yr Here we gonna talk about Everyday life's chart run: So far it looks bad in US they are behind Jason Aldean for #1 annd are only up for 80K for firstweek. What are they a second rate band? they should do more, whats up with their US fanbase? Have they lost that much fans in US?

What are they a second rate band? they should do more, whats up with their US fanbase? Have they lost that much fans in US? Nope, there's plenty of fans over here. The majority of fans are in the UK, but there's a lot of American fans as well because so many people live here.
November 24, 20196 yr The album wasn't really promoted as much as its predecessors so I'm not surprised it's failing to chart well. This was a quieter release even with the SNL appearance and the Jordan livestream.
November 24, 20196 yr Author some bands even with surprise releases get to #1 still. Coldplay's fan base in US is shrinking very after release of each album
November 24, 20196 yr Why do we care about this still? It’s hilariously unfair to deem a band “second rate” based on record sales.

November 24, 20196 yr Welp, this really freaking sucks because Robbie Williams might get his #1 album and beat out Coldplay like Adele did with AHFOD :sob: OFC I'd rather have a band that does really good high quality music than commercial music, but come on they're Coldplay, even if this IS an experimental album it has to sell somewhat well! Cmon Coldplay gotta beat that Robbie WIlliams! not saying you should put out trash music specifically to earn commercial success though..... gotta be legit with all dat

But at the same time I want Coldplay to beat him. :joy:

November 24, 20196 yr I think this is more of a critically acclaimed album than chart topping one. Intelligent, sensitive, globally conscious people like this album, and...that does not for an uber popular album make.
November 24, 20196 yr I think this is obviously frustrating given their history, especially as in the UK every single one of their albums has reached #1, but first of all the album was just released, i mean it could be a grower, and second of all, they indeed have not planned much promotion for it. It's safe to say they are not expecting the album to chart so well, and if they're okay with it, then i'm good. The worst would be for them to expect to reach all the top spots and them failing at it. Thankfully, that's not really happened - when it comes to albums, I mean.... We all know the Crazy Frog debacle....
November 25, 20196 yr Out of the horse's mouth And as I tell him Robbie recently admitted he would be “crushed” if he missed out on the top chart spot to the rockers, Chris jokes: “Robbie Williams, we don’t mind. Honestly, we’re cool with that. “He can have it, all power to Robbie. Really, he was around first, too.” The decision not to tour the world promoting their latest record will enable the band to begin work on their next project almost immediately — which Chris insists will not be a bid for even more fame, fortune or success. “I don’t even think about commercialism and those sorts of words any more,” he says. “We’ve done all that. “Now it’s all about what comes through, and what feels right. If it feels right for us, we’ll do it. Simple as that. Link I think this is a logical step and one that takes away the enormous pressure on the band to continuously do #1s. I hope this means more curve ball albums in the future.
November 28, 20196 yr The worst would be for them to expect to reach all the top spots and them failing at it. Or to make really commercial music to try to reach that goal (con 1), and then failing to achieve success at all (con 2). On one hand I wanna say if they're gonna go a commercial route I at least want them to be successful, but then again maybe a loss of success would cause them to reconsider their musical path. That would only be if they were chasing after the money that they'd do that though, if they were making cheap music just because they wanted to (not that common), nothing would change and that would probably suck. That was what wasn't so good about Los Unidades, probably because it was under a different name it was really commercial music that didn't go anywhere. I might have heard E-Lo once or twice on the radio but that's it. That said I'd much rather that kind of music be associated with another band name than Coldplay, to say the least, even if it means a hit in sales Thankfully, that's not really happened - when it comes to albums, I mean.... Didn't Coldplay lose their consecutive 1st week #1 album streak to Adele? I knew they reached the top of the charts later and we all celebrated the news, but I could have sworn that was the first time a Coldplay album didn't chart #1 in the first week....
November 28, 20196 yr I might have heard E-Lo once or twice on the radio but that's it. Wait, really? I haven't even heard EL music on the radio yet, aside from listening to the radio online before a Coldplay interview. Coldplay doesn't seem to be too popular where I live, unfortunately.
November 28, 20196 yr OMG, they have to beat Robbie Williams. I can only say that well, I did my part to help them doing that, when I was in the UK a few days ago...
November 28, 20196 yr Or to make really commercial music to try to reach that goal (con 1), and then failing to achieve success at all (con 2). Oh yeah, but i don't even think about it because that's something that they have never done (despite what so many people say), and that I woud not see them try anyway. Especially now, it's so clear that they have reached all their goals and do not care whatsoever about how their material is received. Didn't Coldplay lose their consecutive 1st week #1 album streak to Adele? I knew they reached the top of the charts later and we all celebrated the news, but I could have sworn that was the first time a Coldplay album didn't chart #1 in the first week.... Yes, but I mean, they did reach it eventually as you say, so they did all reach #1 and if sales matter, that one matters more than achieving it specifically in the 1st week imo.
November 29, 20196 yr Author UK Midweek Chart (Thursday) 1 Coldplay - Everyday Life (74.7k) * 2 Robbie Williams - The Christmas Present (60.5k) * 3 Rod Stewart - You're In My Heart (33.7k) 4 Lewis Capaldi - Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (20.3k) 5 Michael Ball & Alfie Boe - Back Together (15.4k) Uk lloks safe and yes they did eventually get #1 no matter what week they stilll got that #1 consecutive record. In US tho they are at #5 US market seems so commercial
November 29, 20196 yr Just curious as to where you can get that information. Obviously theres the sales flash on Monday, but where did you get Thursday figures?
November 29, 20196 yr HELL YEAH Coldplay has managed to top the UK album chart with Everyday Life! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/coldplays-everyday-life-beats-robbie-williamss-christmas-album-to-number-1-on-the-official-albums-chart__27838/
November 30, 20196 yr They manage to make what's likely their most experimental album and they still beat Robbie Williams for #1. And then just prior in 2015 they made their most poppy commercial album and fall in the first week to Adele Wait, really? I haven't even heard EL music on the radio yet, aside from listening to the radio online before a Coldplay interview. Coldplay doesn't seem to be too popular where I live, unfortunately. SXM plays Orphans a lot on Alt Nation. Once I barely managed to catch the last few seconds of Arabesque on there too as I just got in the car (and subsequently blasted the radio full volume for those few seconds), too bad I didn't get to catch all of it I guess it wouldn't really matter that much since SXM quality wise is garbage, but oh well. It would have sounded really out of place anyway, some EDM pop hybrid played on there after lol (not SJLT) Yes, but I mean, they did reach it eventually as you say, so they did all reach #1 and if sales matter, that one matters more than achieving it specifically in the 1st week imo. Yeah, I just remember there being a lot of disappointment on here that the commercial poppy AHFOD managed to lose to Adele. At least it topped the charts eventually
