October 19, 200916 yr Whitney Houston stuns X Factor viewers with shambolic behaviour!! Whitney Houston stuns X Factor viewers with shambolic behaviour By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 5:26 PM on 19th October 2009 Comments (23) Add to My Stories Whitney Houston stunned X Factor viewers last night with her bizarre behaviour following her performance. The legendary singer, 46, looked disorientated as she nervously shuffled about on stage following an energetic performance of her new single Million Dollar Bill. The star, who is currently launching her comeback after years away from the spotlight battling a drug addiction, proved an awkward interviewee for X Factor host Dermot O'Leary. Scroll down to watch a video of Whitney's performance and interview Stumbling: Whitney Houston shuffled about on stage and said 'um' a lot as she talked to Dermot O'Leary after her performance During the brief interview, Whitney appeared nervous as she struggled to answer some of the questions, pausing often, starring at the ground and closing her eyes. Her strange behaviour could have been a sign of nerves for the star, who is returning to the stage after nearly a decade away. But many audience members watching last night may have left wondering if Whitney's past drug use had affected her behaviour. Her responses to Dermot's questions were delayed and littered with 'ums' after the singer struggled to find quick answers on the live show. When asked when the album was out, Whitney paused, before saying: 'Yeah, the um... the album? It should release this weekend, or next week sometime. I'll be back here in April for the tour.' Comeback performance: The singer is hoping to revive her career after a decade away, during which time she battled drug addiction On edge: Whitney fumbled with her dress during the routine Her performance on Sunday night's result show followed a masterclass session with the 11 acts, where she and music mogul Clive Davis listened to their rehearsals and advised them on their singing. When asked about her directness with the contestants during her masterclass session, Whitney looked at Simon Cowell as she said: 'Yeah, is that why you call me Lippy?' Pulling faces as she grimaced at the judge, she continued: 'Simon calls me Lippy 'cause I say what's on my mind just like he does.' Wardrobe malfunction: The star's dress came undone, which proved a distraction for her When asked what she thought of the contestants, Whitney looked at the floor and said: 'I thought that they were....um.... how do I put this really good?' Whitney appeared lost for words when asked to sum up the acts, and fiddled with her nose before saying: 'So that's um... they're young. They have a lot of room to grow... Um, like Clive told me, practice, practice, practice.' Whitney mentioning Clive gave Dermot a welcome diversion from the awkward interview as he drew the camera to the music mogul who discovered Whitney. Whitney's strange behaviour on the show comes a week after Robbie Williams - who has also battled addiction - made headlines with his wide-eyed appearance. Back again: Whitney, pictured leaving the X Factor studios last night, returned to UK TV for the first time in 12 years Following a negative response from critics, Robbie admitted he was incredibly nervous after his entrance was disturbed by a malfunctioning door. He said: 'I wasn't as nervous as I thought I was going to be... until the sliding door wouldn't open.' More... 'We're so proud of you!': Girls Aloud stars hug and kiss Cheryl Cole after her 'incredible' X Factor performanceX Factor's Rachel puts on a brave face after being saved in the sing-off for the second time While Whitney's voice was evidentially declined somewhat since her Nineties heyday, she still managed to put on rousing performance of her new song. Like a true professional, she carried on singing as the strap on her silver dress came loose during her set. As she was approached by Dermot, she joked: 'I sang myself out of my clothes.' Celebrity fans watching the X Factor critiqued her set on micro-blogging site Twitter. Peter Andre wrote: '...I still love Whitney though, I mean she IS a living ledge (legend). Just not tonight for me.' Advice: Whitney and Clive Davis, pictured with Lucie Jones, gave masterclasses to all the contestants Philip Schofield believed X Factor judge Cheryl Cole's performance of Fight For This Love was better: 'Well I think Cheryl was better then Whitney!! Is that controversial?' Her appearance on the X Factor marked her first UK TV appearance for 12 years. While the music industry is glad to see Whitney back after a difficult period in her personal life, the quality of her voice has obviously been affected by her drug use. In an interview on the Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this month, Whitney admitted she used to take cocaine with marijuana. Admitting her drug use became 'heavy' after the 1992 film The Bodyguard, Whitney said: 'You put your marijuana, you lace it, you roll it up and you smoke it... it’s like heroin and cocaine speedballing, but you level it off, with marijuana.' Whitney finally conquered her demons three years ago when she checked into rehab with the support of her mother Cissy Houston and Clive. She then found the courage to leave ex-husband Bobby Brown after a rocky relationship. October 19, 200916 yr Definitely seemed like she was "on something", and I didn't think she sounded that great, either!:stunned: she only sang one or two lines. half the time she was doing these little hand movements. The backing track did more than her.

October 19, 200916 yr Whitney Houston I just read the article about Whitney's performance on UK TV last night. A few week's ago she was on German TV in the German programme "Wetten, dass". It was the same pattern then: Whitney sang a song and did that very well - and then there was a very short interview. Whitney answered the questions very slowly and with many "uhms". And her singing voice was not like it used to be. But it was still good to see her. Her daughter was present too - sitting among the audience.

And her singing voice was not like it used to be. But it was still good to see her. Her daughter was present too - sitting among the audience. The sad thing is that her voice used to be enough on its own. Now she seems to have to rely on backing singers, dancers and "smoke and mirrors" to enhance her performance, much like Madonna. I wish it weren't true, but that's how it is, unfortunately.:dozey:
