their most accesible ones are takk and með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust

but for me their best is agaetis byrjun

listen to hopippolla first, if you like it then we talk

if you ask me, their bests are takk and agaetis byrjun, though the new one has some fabulous tracks. i'd start with takk, i think.

 about the new album! i had no idea they were working on one currently, but it doesn't sound like many did. can't wait!

I like "weird" stuff, so it's not like I need to be broken in with the most accessible/mainstream album

lol. in which case give these a try...

I think Takk is the best place to start I think, it combines all the best elements of sigur ros into one album for me. Then Agaetis Byrjun and () for the more experimental stuff.

But wow, I had no idea they were already working on new material! That's basically 2 sigur ros albums within a year if you count Jonsi's solo album... can't wait.

Argh youtube wont work on here for me, when it's embeded, cos my IP is banned and I have to use a proxy

So I guess I'll get Takk, Agaetis Byrjun and ()

með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust is good too

They're all good, quite frankly. But yes, Takk is the best to start with- it has a little bit of mainstream stuff, and a little bit of weird stuff.

And a new album? I have no idea how Jonsi has time for all this stuff, but yay! :D

mainstream?

Sigur Rós are anything but mainstream, hoppipolla maybe too catchy, but it's not mainstream

I love Glosoli! It's the first Sigur Rós song I've heard..

mainstream?

Sigur Rós are anything but mainstream, hoppipolla maybe too catchy, but it's not mainstream

that's not quite what I meant. I meant songs like hoppipolla, that are the MOST mainstream out of all of their songs- songs that anyone who knows sigur ros has heard and likes.

I've started with ( ) and it didn't freak me out or anything like that. So that one's also good to start with.

Von is very different from the rest of their albums .. still didn't get into it.

nav_leaf.gifsigur rós play for dalai lama

29 May 2009

sigur rós will be playing a short set for the dalai lama at his public talk in laugardalshöllin arena in reykjavík, tuesday june 2nd. sigur rós will be joined by odin’s raven magic collaborators steindór andersen, hilmar örn hilmarsson, maría huld markan and páll from húsafell. the set will be comprised of parts from odin’s raven magic as well as ‘rímur’ chanting by steindór. the band will be performing without jónsi as he is currently in london working on his solo album. in an interview in today’s morgunblaðið newspaper, steindór says the group was honoured to have been asked to perform for the dalai lama and view their contribution more as a tribute to the spiritual leader than as a concert for the guests. the dalai lama event is sold out.

nav_leaf.gifnew album near completion

28 May 2009

sigur rós have certainly been keeping busy lately. in addition to the riceboy sleeps album, jónsi’s solo album and kjartan’s ondine soundtrack, sigur rós have been at work in their sundlaugin studio in álafoss the past few weeks recording a full length album, which is now nearing completion. orri told morgunblaðið newspaper today that the recordings have been going very well and that the album is taking form as a slower and more ambient record than með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and takk…. he also describes the music as melodic but much less noisy and more “out there” than previous albums. the album does not have a release date set but is expected to be released sometime next year.

nav_leaf.gifminningar um ágætis byrjun

26 May 2009

kæru íslendingar! (já, við erum að tala við þig.) í tilefni 10 ára afmælis plötunnar ágætis byrjun nú í sumar langar okkur til að biðja þá sem voru viðstaddir útgáfutónleikana í íslensku óperunni, 12. júní 1999, að senda okkur minningar ykkar í kringum tónleikana, hvort sem það er mynd, texta, video, grein eða annað. allar minningar eða minningabútar í kringum plötuna og útgáfu hennar eru líka vel þegnar, skiptir engu hvort það eru tvær setningar eða tvö hundruð setningar. athugið að innsent efni gæti verið birt hér á vefnum á sérstöku svæði tileinkað ágætis byrjun. kærar þakkir!

[non-icelanders: the above is a note to ask those in attendance of the icelandic opera house concert of june 1999 to send in their memories from the concert and album release.]

this is really cool to know :D

thanks for the articles, ricardo! :nice:
