Rate "Up in Flames"
Look around the forum, nobody is saying they want Parachutes II. All they're saying is that they don't like the new direction the band are taking. Stop putting words in people's mouths. Viva certainly wasn't Parachutes II but almost everybody loved it anyway. Evolution is fine, regression is not.

Is Charlie Brown THE BEST Coldplay song...EVER??
Haha you can't be serious. It's not even the best song on the album.

Mylo Xyloto Listening Party in Austin
I'm pretty sure that they would have had to sign an agreement that prevented them from talking about the album.

The back of Chris' shirt at ACL: "CAR KIDS"
Seriously guys, there won't be any hidden tracks on MX. Do you really think they'd even consider having 15 or more songs on the album?

For those who dislike this new album, will you go to a concert?
I'd probably still go. The chance to hear The Scientist live is worth the price alone. I could do without Paradise and ETIAW though.

so....
Up In Flames is far superior to Paradise in my opinion, but it was hyped way too much. It's a good song, but not as good as R42 made it out to be. It sounds like something from X&Y I suppose. I don't like how in the chorus the only lyrics are 'Up in flames'. In fact they are doing that a lot in this era. The only lyrics in the Paradise chorus are 'para-para paradise.' Just uttering the same phrase over and over again means nothing to me.

It's not sung as high as Proof, but some parts (particularly the end of the chorus) is too high for my liking. I think it would be better if it was sung an octave lower, but I guess the falsetto adds to the emotion.

Up In Flames Lyrics
We need a higher quality recording to get the lyrics. The only part that's obvious is the 'Up in flames' part.

Up with the birds - a duet with Leonard Cohen?
They already have a duet with Rihanna, it would surprise me if they did 2 duets on the same album. The PRS says that samples are used and that Leonard Cohen is a writer, so I'm betting that Cohen's vocals will be incorporated into Up With The Birds from one of his existing songs. So it's not strictly a duet but it does feature Cohen's vocals.

The girl from Paradise.
Will they bring her back for the Princess of China video? Assuming the songs are both about the same girl of course. On second thoughts, they'll probably just put Rihanna in it because Rihanna = mainstream/more sales.

Up In flames reminds me of Prospekts March.
You're right. It's a good song, but there's something missing that gives it an empty feel. We can be grateful that they haven't covered it in synths though.

Just another thought. I don't actually understand why they'd bother writing this song if they already have Moving to Mars. Both songs seem to have been written for the same purpose, except Moving to Mars is better. Will's part is also really dull and the song doesn't really have a proper ending, it just stops. This might be because of this particular performance though. I still think it's a good song but I don't see the purpose of it. They could easily have replaced it in the tracklisting with Moving to Mars.

From what I've heard it's a solid 8. For me it's the best song this era other than Us Against The World. But I agree with what jc90 said. It's verging on being boring which I find incredibly strange because it's more complex musically than The Scientist which isn't boring in the slightest. It just sounds like there's something missing. But honestly by this point I'd prefer it to be boring but emotional rather than having hundreds of layers but no emotion like ETIAW and Paradise.

UIF WORLD DEBUT - watch the video
It's not as good as The Scientist or Fix You even and it doesn't sound like it's a single. But this is classic Coldplay. Simple, beautiful and elegant. I didn't get goosebumps like I did when listening to The Scientist and Amsterdam for the first time but I wasn't expecting to be as good as either of those. I'm waiting on a higher quality version though but overall I'm impressed with the song.

We're not getting Parachutes II.
Nobody's asking for Parachutes II. We all want Coldplay to progress musically but not in the way they're doing with Mylo Xyloto. Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends was nothing like their previous material but almost everybody still loved it.

Para, para, parody!!! (VIDEO IN 1ST POST! Pai's song on page 3)
This is the greatest piece of music I've ever heard. I would love it if Coldplay heard it.
-
Would you tell the band you don't like Paradise?
I would tell them without a doubt. I don't care how mush effort they've supposedly put into it, if the end product isn't good enough then I'll tell them so.
-
The xylophone part played by Guy and Chris in that video is in Paradise!
They should have made that part louder, it could have saved the song. Or they could have at least taken those synths out so it could actually be heard.

MX singles and the wall
The resolution isn't quite high enough to make them out. It's probably deliberate.

The Oracle=Bullshit!
I don't agree that the Oracle is completely bullshit, but she's definitely nothing more than a marketing tool. She also seems to give out false information like 'the album hasn't been named yet' We know this isn't true because she's said more recently that the title was decided early on. She's also said that Mylo Xyloto isn't a made up language. Again, this completely contradicts what Chris has said about the name being made up from nothing. And frankly that agony aunt 'Team Oracle' crap has no place on a band website.

Who else is pissed that this didn't make it on the MX track listing?
The fact is this is alot better than some of the other songs we've been hearing. But it was obvious it was only ever going to be a b-side so I'm not 'pissed'. I never expected it to be on the album.

#1 on iTunes!!!!!
It's number 6 here in the UK. It's not bad considering that for the last 5 years or so the only type of music that has a chance of getting into the charts is generic RnB. Occasionally an artist like Adele will come in and change things up a bit but other than that it's been incredibly dull and predictable for a long time.

Is the money and fame getting to Chris Martin's songwriting abilities??
I remember in the past Chris used to be really worried about releasing an album and wasn't always 100% confident in it. This time he seems to be saying that he thinks it's really good. This time he's saying, I quote: "Anyone who buys the album will really like it." This worries me because I think in the past his lack of confidence was partly responsible for his sincere, honest lyrics and his honest music that doesn't try too hard and go over the top. With this album I think they've tinkered with things so much that they firmly believe that there's nothing more they could have done with each song and therefore the quality is better than anything they've done before. But anybody with half a brain knows that music isn't about manufacturing a song on a computers until there's nothing more you can do with it, it's about taking care and crafting each song with passion rather than letting a computer do it for you.

Will contribution....
Maybe Will has just given up. He doesn't even appear to be filtering out all the crap stuff like he was before. Instead of actually playing the drums he's just programming the electronic beats as if he doesn't actually care anymore.

Will ETIAW be different on the album?
I actually think there's a high possibility that both ETIAW and Major Minus will have new mixes. If you go to the Mylo Xyloto page on iTunes you can only listen to Paradise as a preview. It's weird why you can't listen to ETIAW and Major Minus even though they've already been released. I remember that when The Suburbs was released you could hear a preview of The Suburbs and Month of May because they had been released previously. Both those songs remained unchanged for the album. I may be wrong, but I think that's what's going on here. Also consider that they've been working on the album until the last possible moment, which could include alterations to Major Minus and ETIAW.
