Europe's 2nd competition, which some people say is worthless but it is still something to have in your book. First Round Draw to be played over two-legs on 14 and 28 September. After the first round proper, the 40 survivors enter a group phase, with the clubs being drawn into eight groups of five each. Unlike the Champions League group phase, the UEFA Cup group phase is played in a single round-robin format, with each club playing two home and two away games. The top three teams in each group advance, where they are joined by the eight third-place teams in the Champions League group phase. After the group stage there is knockout play, with two-legged ties leading…

Villeneuve and Schumacher have long had a frosty relationship Jacques Villeneuve has accused Michael Schumacher of a series of dirty tricks and lying to fans and fellow drivers. The ex-champion said Schumacher would "never" attain the hero status of other great drivers such as Ayrton Senna and thought he was "bigger than the sport". "Michael isn't a great champion because he's played too many dirty tricks and isn't a great human being," Villeneuve said in a scathing personal attack. Villeneuve claimed Schumacher would be quickly forgotten when he retired. The Canadian has had a cool relationship with Schumacher since the German tried to dri…

I used the search engines and i searched by myself so i dont think there's a thread dedicated to this movie.. anyway, i watched it last night i gotta say, it's not exactly what i expected. the word "comedy" in its description for it being a "romantic comedy" is definetly out of place. The was nothing funny about that movie, except for vince vaughn's friend (i dont remember his name). And all the other funny parts were already shown in the trailer. the whole move was simply exhausting. Who wants to watch 90 minutes of two ppl argueing and bickering and crying? That's just depressing. and how can u call it romantic with an end like that?? i thought it was cool t…

Experts meet to decide Pluto fate Pluto was discovered in 1930 by US astronomer Clyde Tombaugh Astronomers are gathering in the Czech capital, Prague, hoping to define exactly what counts as a planet. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) hopes to settle the question of Pluto, which was first spotted in 1930. Experts are divided over whether Pluto - further away and considerably smaller than the eight other planets in our Solar System - deserves the title. The stakes were raised when a bigger planet-type body, known as 2003 UB313, was discovered by a US astronomer. Any decision to downgrade Pluto would send shockwaves through the scientific commun…

Apocalypse NOW: The Twelfth Imam By Alan Caruba CNSNews.com Commentary from the National Anxiety Center July 08, 2005 If anyone still thinks that the worldwide Islamic Jihad is going to go away simply because we have had some success in Afghanistan and are paving the way for a democratic government in Iraq, Thursday's attack in London, coinciding with the G8 summit, should dispel such notions. Most revealing was the G-8 agenda, devoted to so-called global warming and forgiving African debt; two examples of wishful thinking based on neither scientific nor economic evidence that either would accomplish anything. More to the point, the Islamic Jihadists took the opp…

Condi's "New Middle East" By Patrick J. Buchanan August 8 , 2006 With the second Intifada and rise to power of Ariel Sharon, Israel abandoned Oslo and land-for-peace. We will never again negotiate with Arafat, said Sharon, because Israel does not negotiate with terrorists. Two Israeli prime ministers, Rabin and Peres, had shared a Nobel Prize with Arafat. A third, "Bibi" Netanyahu, had handed over Hebron to Arafat. A fourth, Ehud Barak, had offered Arafat 95 percent of the West Bank and a capital in Jerusalem. Yet, Sharon not only made his policy stick, he got George W. Bush to sign on to it. Where Arafat had been to the Clinton White House more times than Bo…

August 08, 2006 Bernard Lewis: August 22 "might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world" In the Wall Street Journal (thanks to Sam), world-renowned Middle East scholar Bernard Lewis echoes some observations about possibilities regarding Iran that I made in FrontPage over a week ago: What is the significance of Aug. 22? This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to "the farthest mosque," usually id…

The prisoners, armed with chilli water, stormed the gate Eighteen Indonesian prisoners broke out of jail using an unusual weapon - the chilli pepper. Prisoners at Pematang Sinatar jail in Sumatra mixed hot chillies with water in plastic bottles to spray at guards. The fiery liquid temporarily blinded the guards, allowing prisoners to grab their keys and make the break for freedom. Sixteen of the inmates had now been recaptured, a police official said, but two were still on the run. The men were meant to be on their way to breakfast but instead stormed the prison gate, Detective Den Martin told the Associated Press news agency. They we…

Gatlin has been banned after failing a drugs test in April World and Olympic 100m champion Justin Gatlin has been handed an eight-year ban from athletics after accepting he committed a doping violation. The 24-year-old American was facing the prospect of a life ban after testing positive for testosterone on 22 April. But he was spared after agreeing to "co-operate in the effort to eradicate the use of drugs from sport." Gatlin will also lose the 100m world record of 9.77 seconds he jointly holds with Jamaican Asafa Powell. Gatlin first failed a drugs test five years ago when amphetamines were found in his samples at the USA Junior Championsh…

Climatic changes could lead to more outbreaks of bubonic plague among human populations, a study suggests. Researchers found that the bacterium that caused the deadly disease became more widespread following warmer springs and wetter summers. The disease occurs naturally in many parts of the world, and the team hopes their findings will help officials limit the risk of future outbreaks. The study appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The bacterium Yersinia pestis is believed to have triggered the Black Death that killed more than 20 million people in the Middle Ages. Rodent hosts The international team of scientists, who foc…

Woman shot with rubber bullets while peacefully protesting in Miami Watch the vidio showing the Darth Vader style police having what they call fun?!?! Elizabeth Ritter was shot four times with rubber bullets by police while she was protesting a Free Trade Summit in Miami, August 10. VIDEO - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slaw1tYDPFc This horrifying example truly shows the disconnect between police and the citizens they pose as protecting and serving. These police actually laugh at their victims, in spite of news cameras and hundreds of witnesses of which they were certainly aware. Arrogant and unchecked power now threatens to be the norm for ever-increasing r…

A murder investigation is under way after a woman and three children, aged five to 11, were found dead in a house. Officers were called to the home in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester, on Sunday night, after neighbours raised concerns about the occupants' welfare. Greater Manchester Police said they want to trace 36-year-old Rahan Arshad - the fifth person living at the house - who has been missing for four weeks. The dead woman and two boys and a girl are believed to be related. Det Supt Martin Bottomley appealed to Mr Arshad, a local taxi driver, to get in touch with police or for anybody who has seen him to contact them. He may be driving a BMW 320 d…

The vat was full of dark chocolate A 21-year-old US man ended up in hospital after spending two hours trapped in a vat of chocolate, police in Wisconsin said on Friday. The man said he had climbed into the tank before becoming trapped waist-deep in chocolate, police chief Randy Berner told AP news agency. However, other reports suggest he was stirring the chocolate when he fell in. Rescue workers and staff at the Debelis Corporation used cocoa-butter to thin out the chocolate and pull him free. "It was pretty thick. It was virtually like quicksand," Captain Berner said. "It's the first time I've ever heard of anything like this," he added…

Brazil seeks new homes for lions Brazil is now considering a ban on importing lions Environmental authorities in Brazil are struggling to find permanent homes for 68 lions abandoned by circuses across the country. Some of the animals were found roaming the roadside, hungry and diseased. The number of rescued lions surged after new laws banning wild animal displays in some regions. In one of the most recent rescues, police found five bedraggled lions roaming by the side of the road in the south-eastern state…

I'm thinking of buying the game, but I've heard a lot of nasty things about Steam and the instillation. I know that Steam is designed with the intention of stopping piracy, and I do think that piracy is kind of pathetic, but the Steam safeguard seems to be too much of a hassle. I've read that it is possible to play Half Life 2 without having to log on through Steam, I'm just wondering if this is true or not. And also I hear that this game demands insane requirements to be played, and I have 1.8 GHZ, and 448 MB RAM, not sure about my video card though, what specs are you guys playing it at? And how does it perform?

China bans The Simpsons from primetime TV China has banned The Simpsons from primetime television and is also set to make it illegal for networks to show Pokemon and Mickey Mouse cartoons in the evening. The decision to remove foreign cartoons is part of a move to protect the domestic animation industry. The ruling Communist Party is also worried about the effect foreign pop culture will have on the minds of the country's youth. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has decided to ban all foreign cartoons during "golden hours" between 5pm and 8pm, starting September 1st. Although the ban has not been officially announced, local ne…

Man slapped in face with wet fish A 23-year-old woman has paid £210 for the privilege of slapping a stranger around the face with a wet fish. Student Lucy Berry won the chance to slap Ben Fillmore, 24, who had begun an auction on the eBay website to raise money for the Stroke Association UK. Ms Berry, who used two rainbow trout, said after the slap at Hyde Park's Speakers Corner in London: "It was extremely satisfying." Mr Fillmore hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity. Ms Berry, who was allowed to chose the type of fish used in the slapping, said: "It is kind of a dream of mine. "My face feels a bit taut and the fish really stinks" Ben Fillmore …
