University 'not the only option' Would-be accountants could be almost £60,000 better off by not going to university, it is claimed. The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) compared those doing a college course after school with those doing a three-year degree. By working in accountancy as trainees, it said, college students could make almost £45,000 and still get higher qualifications as quickly as graduates. The undergraduates, however, would run up about £15,000 of debt, it said. The AAT's qualifications involve practical training to fulfil a variety of accounting functions. For its comparison it analysed data from a variety of sources such as …

I am a crazy Bayern fan. My favorite player in Bayern is Salihamidzic. And the new season will start soon. Hope they can win Bundesliga title and Champion League glory. Do you have any comment about buying Podolski and Van Buyten then let Balla go this summer? And I hear a rumor that Bayern will not to give service for fan who sent letter asking for player's signature. Is that true?

PATRIOT PERSPECTIVE Why such a categorical rejection? Not because of McGovern's "cut and run" opposition on Vietnam (though his association with traitors such as Kerry and his hippie/yippie groupies did not play well with Middle America), but because he was a "retreat and hide" isolationist. Despite America's woes in Vietnam, it was clear to most Americans in 1972, Republican and Democrat, that our nation faced a formidable global threat—the Soviet Union—and that the USSR's global objective was to defeat United States militarily, economically and philosophically. Some three decades hence, a new breed of uber-Leftist isolationists has emerged, cultivated by a voci…

The 17 were held following raids by customs officers in London, Manchester and Glasgow early on Tuesday. They have been charged in Scotland and Revenue & Customs said no details of the exact charges would be released. A carousel fraud involves goods being repeatedly exported and imported and VAT pocketed. Revenue & Customs (HMRC) said the operation was the biggest in its history. NEW YORK - Gwyneth Paltrow, on hiatus from acting for more than two years, is ready to get back to work. "For a long time, I thought, `I've done it. I've done what I wanted to do. I'm not interested. I just want to be home with my family,'" the 33-year-old actress tells Harper's Bazaar in its September issue, on newsstands Tuesday. "I had no spark for work, but I feel the feeling back. And I'm excited about the prospect. I want to do something kind of fun. I don't want to do anything depressing or mad. I want to do a really great, funny, weird character." Paltrow, who won a best actress Oscar for 1998's "Shakespeare in Love," stars in "Running With Scissors," based …

well with my favorite player, Michael Ballack, leaving Bayern for Chelsea, for 250,000 dollars a week(daaayum) i have become a Chelsea fan. But was very dissapointed when i saw the game, Ballack played just 27 minutes, was booked and appeared to have strained his side. Liverpool 2-1 over Chelsea i tell ya, i sure would be upset if i was Chelsea's GM, paid for one of the greatest players in soccer today, and got an injury in game 1. and now with joe cole out on injury, looks like a long season:stunned:

J. K. ROWLING has given a strong hint that two of her main characters in the Harry Potter books, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, would become an item in the final instalment of the series. The author told a New York audience that Hermione, based on herself, wanted an intimate relationship with a boy she knew well. If she looked in the Mirror of Erised, which shows one’s deepest desire, she would “see herself entwined with another person whose identity you can probably guess”. Herminone and Ron have been the Lizzie Bennett and Mr Darcy of Hogwarts for several volumes of the seven-volume series. Rowling laughed off the suggestion, by some fans, that Hermione w…

A-levels 'should be phased out' A-levels should be phased out and replaced with a "British Baccalaureate" composed of academic and vocational elements, a think-tank has said. The Institute for Public Policy Research said this would greatly increase the number of 16 to 18-year-olds staying on in education. It said one in four in this age group was not in education or training. The Department for Education said its new specialised diplomas would offer a mix of academic and applied learning. The IPPR said the UK lagged behind many EU countries when it came to those staying on in education or training post-16. In Germany nine out of 10 of those aged 16 to 18…

LONDON - When Hollywood's golden couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, had their first child, it was a girl. When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had a baby, and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin had a baby, they also were girls. Coincidence? Perhaps not. Research from the London School of Economics indicates that physically attractive couples are 36 percent more likely than unattractive couples to produce a girl as their first child. The research - led by evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa and published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology - is based on the study of 3,000 young American adults in 2001 and 2002 who were taking part in an investigation called …

Willis 'back for fourth Die Hard' The actor, 51, will reprise the role of hard-nosed police detective John McClane in the film, to be called Live Free or Die Hard. It will be released in the US on 29 June 2007, making it a key film for next year's lucrative Independence Day weekend, Variety magazine reported. The first Die Hard film established Willis as a box office star in 1988. Computer sabotage The franchise has earned more than $740m (£392m), not including DVD sales. Live Fast or Die Hard marks a return for the series after an 11-year hiatus. The plot centres on an attack on the US computer network which threatens to bring the country to a stands…

Does Paul McCartney's daughter Stella want him to take a breather from his tabloid-bait divorce battle with Heather Mills to go out on a date? That's the claim being made by the London Sunday Mirror, which says the ex-Beatle's fashion designer offspring wants to set him up with Blythe Danner, the mom of her bestest pal Gwyneth Paltrow. "Stella fully realizes that the last thing her father needs right now is a new woman in his life, especially in the midst of a messy divorce," a "close friend" tells the paper. "But Stella knows that he'll want and need a woman in his life again. She thinks someone like Blythe will be ideal." One sad bit of common ground that Paul, 64, and …

Bono's Hypocrisy Betrays Third World Aid Scam Keeping Africans in chains while herding Westerners into the same prison cell Paul Joseph Watson & Steve Watson | August 8 2006 Bono's latest efforts to dodge taxes and invest in the very capitalist franchises he supposedly rallies against prove that he is one of the leading characters in a puppet show that, far from helping emaciated kids in Ethiopia, serves only to keep the third world in chains while herding Westerners into the same debtor slavery prison. It's commonly acknowledged that of the estimated $500 billion that has been poured into Africa over the last 40 years, the majority has gone no further than …

A man drank 12 pints of cider at a party before stealing a pet goat and taking it for a ride in a stolen car, magistrates in Neath have been told. Carl Myles, 20, of Trallwn, Swansea, untethered the animal and bundled it into the back of a farmer's Volvo before taking to the wheel. He was given a two-year ban and told to carry out 120 hours unpaid work after admitting aggravated vehicle taking. Snowy the goat died two days after her ordeal, her owner has revealed. Appearing in court last Friday, Myles said he could not remember anything about the incident on 4 July - apart from having his face pushed down in the mud when he was caught. Magistrates were t…

Phone vigilante slashes car tyres More than 20 motorists in Hampshire have fallen victim to a mystery vigilante who appears to target drivers spotted using mobile phones. All the car owners have found their tyres have been slashed and, in many cases, a note on their windscreens. The sinister message, made from newspaper cuttings, says the driver was seen using a phone. Hampshire Police are investigating the incidents in Gosport, Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington. One victim was Rebecca Rendle, who was left with a £170 bill, when all four of her tyres were punctured outside her Gosport home. "I was shocked and furious, I don't even own a mobile," she said…

'Scrubber' Boy George cleans up his act Dirty work: Boy George must clean New York's streets It's broom or bust for Boy George as he is ordered to clean some of New York's dirtiest streets or face going to jail. The former Culture club singer, who joked 'I've always been a scrubber', will spend five days of community service sweeping the streets of Chinatown and Little Italy as punishment for falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan flat last year. The 45-year-old, whose real name is George O'Dowd, has been given a shovel, broom, plastic bags and gloves and from pictures it clearly shows he is getting his hands dirty. A New York Sanitation Department…

Study shows alarming sex and drinking habits of British youngsters Casual sex is rife among young people with one in three losing their virginity before the age of consent, according to a survey. Worryingly, 38 per cent of those between 16 and 24 years old do not always use a condom with a new partner. The survey, BareAll06, found the most common reason was because the girl was on the pill, even though this offers no protection against sexually transmitted infection. Almost one in five (17 per cent) admitted to being too drunk to even think about protection. Sexual promiscuity is rampant with 57 per cent admitting to having had at least one ni…

John Terry has been named as the new captain of the England football team. The 25-year-old was confirmed as David Beckham's successor on Thursday, with Steven Gerrard made vice-captain by new England coach Steve McClaren. Terry begins his reign as captain in McClaren's first match in charge, a friendly against Greece on 16 August. McClaren told the Football Association's website: "I'm convinced he will prove to be one of the best captains England has ever had." McClaren said that the respect that Chelsea skipper Terry commanded among his fellow professionals was behind his decision. "John has all the attributes an international captain needs - leadership…
