The Suburbs is an actual GEM! Believe the hype, it really is brilliant and I do think it is their best.

Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

Yeah The Suburbs is gold. I love it's less bombastic more grounded sound.

I love funeral.. and when they perform they really feel it...not pretend or ffake-cry to attract the people...they really make music, they play like 1000 of instruments and nothing comes from PC like modern crap..

All the good music comes from macs.

I don't get the hype for 'Wake Up'. Yeah, It's a good song, I like it, but I don't think it is THAT great and epic and emotional as some people think it is.

You are so right! I think it's overrated. I think everything else on Funeral is better.

I prefer at least half of the rest of Funeral to "Wake Up", but that's probably saying more about Funeral's stellar quality more than anything, because "Wake Up" is still pretty amazing.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

'Nuff said.

3 reasons why Wake Up is one of the most beautiful songs ever performed.

It's pretty great. I hate the term 'epic' but it is probably the most epic song I've ever heard. Far better than the U2, Coldplay, rock band 'epic'.

i would say songs like Where the Streets Have No Name and Clocks are pretty "epic"

Epic songs tend to be fucking lame but Arcade Fire had the knack to do it properly until the new album. I think it was down to the good song writing which left them in exchange for simplistic repetition and guitar effects pedals for the new album. New album is more U2 epic.

^ That's quite interesting, Greg.

I agree. The main thing that i don't like (and i have said this a million times before) about The Suburbs is that it lacked the special sound that they had going in Funeral and Neon Bible. The Suburbs is just a rock album.

I do feel if I hadn't heard their first two albums I'd be more impressed with The Suburbs, which is unfair on the band, but generally speaking it doesn't do too much for me. It also worries me that this is the one that has got them the most recognition as I fear they will continue down this route for future albums. As I've said before though, the last track gives me hope as it was done in a completely different style to the rest. Hopefully they will continue to change and experiment. I would be happy with that, even if they didn't reach the heights of previous years. At least they would be broadening their horizons.

I just think The Suburbs should've been shorter. Because every time I listen to it, there will be a song that will come on where I'll think "oh, I forgot about this one." An album shouldn't include so many songs that some get "left behind" in a way.

I would have rather it just be an EP of like 3 or 4 tracks, then them release something better.

But that's just me.

its an album, not a collection of singles, its flows perfectly as it is, it's not too long, and i know this is a coldplay forum and i love coldplay too but did somebody compare clocks to wake up, come on. You can like coldplay and appreicate that arcade fire is a better band, even chris martin would tell you that

No one compared Clocks to Wake Up. It was said by deaths friend that Clocks cam be regarded as an epic song which it is particularly live ( bar the Viva La Vida tour version which seemed half arsed) just like Where The Streets Have No Name, in my view the greatest live song ever which makes it doubly epic!

That said Wake Up still does nothing for me compared to the rest of Funeral.

Foals- Spanish Sahara

Noah & The Whale- The First Days Of Spring

....Those are two of the most epic songs I've ever heard. I just still don't get how 'Wake Up' is that 'epic'.

spanish sahara isn't that good

imo Afterglow is the most epic song from Foals but Spanish Sahara is still a brilliant song.

Wake Up is much much better live than on the album (like most AF songs)
