Yep. I discovered them thanks to Chris mentioning them in X&Y era interviews as an influence (or notably in Toronto 2006 "God gave you style and led you higher/God gave you the music of the Arcade

Yeah I got into Coldplay first and then slowly started getting into Arcade Fire. Once I started to realize their similarities and that Coldplay toured with them during the LVL era, it made me become a

Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

its an album, not a collection of singles, its flows perfectly as it is, it's not too long, and i know this is a coldplay forum and i love coldplay too but did somebody compare clocks to wake up, come on. You can like coldplay and appreicate that arcade fire is a better band, even chris martin would tell you that

Okay well that's your opinion then, and I respect that. But in my opinion it is too long.

Omissions for me

1. Rococo

2. Empty Room

3. Half Light 1 &2 could've been compressed down a little.

i don't have a problem with the length. a lot of great albums have been an hour or longer and turned out to be a classic. the suburbs is a great example.

Don't have a problem with the length either. But if I had to...

Modern Man

Month Of May

Half Light 2 (No Celebration)

I'd probably miss them if they weren't there, though.

I'd omit Rococo, Wasted Hours and Deep Blue. Ultimately though I'm glad I get 16 tracks for a great deal. It's undoubtedly better than Neon Bible which seemed a bit overblown at times. This one is stripped and much more modest.

I really wouldn't want to emit any of them...but if I had to say one then it would be Empty Room.

I disapprove of empty room disapproval and came in here to let people know my opinion about their opinions m'kay? *poof*

I like Empty Room as well.

Don't have a problem with the length either. But if I had to...

:surprised:

I love that song! :P

The Suburbs wasn't the first AF album I heard, but it was the first AF album I really liked and listened to a lot. I like it better than Funeral (I've only listened to Neon Bible once or twice). :awesome: I just like how relaxing it is. (what a bad description, but I can't think of any other better adjectives. :P)

i would get rid of all of them except

Ready To Start

Modern Man

Rococo

Empty Room

Month Of May

that'd make an amazing EP.

"Wasted Hours" is the only one I'd willingly cut. While I suppose I could also drop "Sprawl I" and maybe even "The Suburbs (Continued)", they're pretty brief intro and outro pieces respectively and don't do much harm in the overall picture.

if I had to remove like 3 songs I'd get rid of

Sprawl I

Wasted Hours

Suburban War

Suburban War? really? i agree the first couple of minutes are a bit of a drag but the part where the song really kicks in would have the best moment on the album.

how far do we think AF is from earning the title "biggest band in the world" their album sold very very well, they've won the grammy for best album and will spend the northern summer headlining some of the biggest festivals in the world. it would be nice to see a band hit that level of success while they're still enjoying decent critical accalim and popularity with the mainstream and alternative markets. by the time coldplay reached that level they were offside with critics and had lost their alternative scene popularity. the only artist i think of at the moment who has managed to do it all is Kanye West.

I'd get rid of all but the last track, then have that as a teaser for a ten song album of similar compositions.

:curtain:

Month of May and Rococo are more like the songs that are untouchable in your game and mustn't be removed!!

And Imke says that she hopes nobody suggests "Sprawl II", I agree!

:escaping3:

Ok, if you had to cut 1-4 songs from The Suburbs, which ones would it be?

I'd eliminate City With No Children, Suburban War, Wasted Hours, and Deep Blue

Sprawl I, Deep Blue and The Suburbs (continued)

Suburban War? really? i agree the first couple of minutes are a bit of a drag but the part where the song really kicks in would have the best moment on the album.

Whenever U2 are around the term 'biggest band in the world' belongs to those two bands. U2 earnt that title by not only being massive but also releasing ground breaking albums. In the late 80s and early 90s they were unquestionably the biggest and best around. That's the reason why only U2 could get away with Arcade Fire and Muse to support them. I'd call AF the best band in the world today though but not the biggest. Could they become the biggest and best at the same time? Thankfully for them it's not something they are concerned about. They won't do a desperate turn like Kings of Leon and turn utter shit in the name of chasing that title.

I don't think The Suburbs (continued) should count.

Yeah, it's better than all the rest. Without that it's not really an album.
