Nirvana's Nevermind voted 'Most Overrated' Album Of All Time

Featured Replies

Nirvana's 1991 record Nevermind [pictured] has been voted the most overrated album of all time by BBC 6 Music listeners.

Coldplay's X&Y came second in the survey, followed by The Libertines' self-titled second album at three.

6 Music's Ric Blaxill said the poll had given the digital station's listeners the chance to "address the hyperbole".

Albums by such popular bands like Oasis, U2, Radiohead and the Beatles also featured in the Top 10, reports the BBC. Listeners were invited to submit their nominations, which were shortlist tto 10 and put to a public vote. Top 10 most over rated albums are:

1. Nirvana - Nevermind

2. Coldplay - X&Y

3. The Libertines - The Libertines

4. Oasis - Definitely Maybe

5. U2 - The Joshua Tree

6. Radiohead - OK Computer

7. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

8. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

9. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks

10. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

There all good albums (The one's i've listened too, Minus X&Y :embarrased: )

But I have to admit, OK Computer is waay over-rated

And Nevermind definatly is the most overated album ever

those were the only 10 options though, I believe

OK Computer and Sgt Pepper's are fine fine albums.

The Libertines album is crap, but "X&Y", "OK Computer" & "The Joshua Tree" are all very good albums

Hurray for number 1! :dozey:

Nevermind is so damn overrated

It isn't even the best Nirvana album (Lithum is) but still it gets called "the best album ever"

it seems like the only way to be overrated is to be really liked by a lot of people. I mean, would you consider an album by some no name band to be overrated?

but besides me NOT making any sense,I still like OK Computer and X&Y. :)

Since when did Nirvana have an album called "Lithium"? It is a song, but it's on... NEVERMIND :dozey: (unless you consider a 3 song single to be Nirvana's greatest release)

At any rate, almost all of those "overrated" albums are also considered almost unanimously to be among the best albums ever. It shows the contrarian nature of some people, I guess.

What do they mean X+Y is "overrated"

1. its been out for 4 months, hard to judge something's success that early.

2. It got slammed by critics... nobodys rating it "over" at all!

Sorry, I meant "In Utero" instead of Lithium :embarrased:

Other than the Beach Boys, those are some of the greatest albums of all time. What a crock. I'd like to know what the demographic is of the people that voted. My guess is 40 year old hippies that still think Skynard is the greatest. I have to admit I don't like X&Y as much as ROBTTH, but it is still an amazing album. Joshua Tree and OK Computer are 2 of my favorites ever.

I take MAJOR personal offense to the Joshua Tree's inclusion in that list

whoever thinks so should go back to their mental instutition...

sorry if I offend anyone, but no, I am really that sorry :sneaky:

I used to wonder why people love OK Computer so much. I love it too, but after the first 6 tracks I used to feel a little let down. OK Computer used to feel like the greatest EP ever made with five pretty good songs tacked onto it. Maybe that's why it's voted overrated. Over the years, I've grown to love OK Computer more as a whole. And "Let Down" has always and will always be one of my favorite songs. Ever.

What do you think?

who the fuck are these people listening to?

i bet the people who voted in the poll were probaly the same ones who went and bought the crazy frog ringtone.....UNBELIAVABLY BIZARRE taste in music :stunned:

It would not surprise me. One thing i do know is that sales wise ok computer is no where to be seen. I got this book. All about music and sales and such. And the Aclaimed OK Computer...one of my fav albums of all time does not make the shortlist for most number of albums. The book shows the largest selling album of each year from the very start of the 60s...

who the fuck are these people listening to?

Good point.

X&Y and The Libertines are only included because they are the more recent albums that people remember for all the hype (+ve or otherwise) that the albums received... Totally too soon to call them overrated, especially given the huge amount of album sales surrounding X&Y. We might be able to say in a couple of years (if people still remember the albums that is ).

I think part of the reason OK Computer and St Peppers are called overrated is because people still talk about them and recommend them to others when they think back of notable records made throughout history... My take is that they must've been good if so many people remember them for all the right reasons :D

iu will have to agree bout nirvanas nevermind

i never liked that album that much

for mr in utero was their best

it has nothing to do with how many copys where sold, X&Y is a great album, but i was expecting something better then AROBTTH, you know that feeling your got when you first heard that album, thats what we were all hoping for and some didn't get it, good album but overrated

Hey careful! The first 5 ones belong to my fave albums/bands generally! but the thing with Nevermind could be right. Me personally listens more to Nirvana's Best Of, bcuz some songs on Nevermind aren't really masterpieces, I think. Just punk rock! Oh and talking about punk rock...where's Green Day? There are so many people slandering about American Idiot bcuz they just got tired of it.
