Whilst I agree this forum can get a little boy-crazy sometimes, which I don't always agree with, I accept that if you go to a public web forum you've got to be prepared to listen to things that you don't necessarily like or agree with. It's up to the moderators/owner of the site to decide what is 'inappropriate' and deal with it. That is what they are there for.

If you don't like a thread's contents then don't come on or avoid the ones you know are going to be 'that way' e.g the 'Gorgeous Chris' or 'Hot Guy' type threads. You can stick to the more music-orientated ones, if you just want that kind of discussion. Even better - start some new threads to discuss what you want to talk about and make it clear that you don't want to include sexual-natured comments.

There is the option to report a post to the moderator if you really feel that it is offensive, otherwise I think people have to accept that other people have the right to say what they want within the general forum rules.

We can keep debating this, but in the end it's up to the moderators so there is really no point creating more threads about it.

I'm a mod and my duty is to check threads... also a thread for pics is not called "the chris pics thread and soft porn comments" between the pics you find the disgusting comments, it's not like don't visit this or that thread because I've found these kind of comments even in concert threads which should be about the music and concert experience

as I said it's like when someone is just trying to find a nice pic in one of the band members threads because it's like you can't avoid the comments about bulges, crotchs (funny thing, I learned those words here in the coldplay section because english is not my main language )and things like that, because many comments are not like "aww nice pic" or "they look great" or etc. even the "OMG chris is hot" kind of comment is a really nice one compared to another comments

Well, like I said before it is just apart of fandom that we have to sort of accept and not participate in.

Eg: anime fans. Some choose to do weird fan fics, tribute videos etc. Others choose to just enjoy the anime itself.

I don't visit the fan fic thread because then my rant would be even bigger

I'm not sure how it works, but as a mod if you feel something is inappropriate is there a way you can sort of 'block it out'? Or certain very graphic words that you can block out so they won't post? I'm not very good with technical stuff!! Or maybe give a warning to the person posting them to avoid being so graphic or risk being excluded from the site? I don't care if you do or don't - I don't think the comments are necessary yet they don't personally bother me as I just ignore them, but if as a mod you think they cross the boundary of the forum rules can you do anything about them?

I think it's really important that people should be free able to give their opinion even if lots of people disagree as that is the point of a public forum. But I agree there is a point at which it can be overstepped and I think it should be you mods and the site owner that get the final say. So whatever you guys think is fine with me.

Indeed, and neither do I. But the fan fics that I've heard about other pop culture phenomonas makes this one look tame.

It is quite easy to detect which fanfic leads to what just by reading the first few lines..

So I just browse the thread to look for the funny ones..Apparently some coldplayers are really good at writing funny stuffs...;)

I just think there are some problems in terms of graphic language and images.I logged in once from a hotel and I couldn't get into some threads cause their server said "Content Inappropriate." So sometimes it's way too much.

really?

I swear!!I was like...."okaaayyyy.....Maybe we are taking it a bit too far then" :)

How funny - I can just imagine the guy at the hotel reception hearing a little alarm go off on his computer and saying to his colleague 'Oh dear, the lady in room 524 is looking up porn on the internet again... better go up and have a word...' :laugh3:

That made me

In my opinion i have no problem on people telling that they are good looking (because they are! :P), but there are limits between telling that they look good and treating them like a piece of meat.

I admit i have lurked by those threads sometimes, but honestly when i enter those kind of threads (which is really weird) i prefer just to watch the pics than read the other comments, some of them are pretty gross :\...

^^^that's pretty funny.

Well, I don't know what to say, I usually visit the same 5 or 6 threads when I come to CPing. I avoid the "insert bandmember name here is hot/sexy/gorgeous" because the pics take forever to download. I also avoid the most of the Lounge threads since people there can be borderline offensive even though they're just being sarcastic. I mean, the real world sucks enough for me, and the last thing I want when I come here is to deal with people who might insult you or be rude because it amuses them.

That's the case with many forums I'm afraid.

I've been reading some of the comments (in this thread) and I have to agree with what cpfan50 said. I think it's the mods duty to make rules, to enforce them, and to put restrictions so that people don't take it too far. (I'm not implying that they haven't been doing that cause they have). Yes- people have a right to an opinion, Yes- it's noone's fault the band members are quite attractive but yes there are forums rules and if some people make comments that don't follow the rules then that must be addressed so it should not happen again. I personally don't like it when people started talking about certain members' "crotches" to me it sounds inapropriate and yeah it seems some are treating them like sex objects. I won't deny I read some pretty obsessive, if slighty vulgar comments about pics but it's great that this is being discussed, inappropriateness shouldn't be ignored and continued and as long as the mods have the power to control such comments then we won't have to worry about it. ;)

sorry if i sound like a know-it-all :P im more of a "don't know what im talking about" lol just voicing my opinion.

@ marie/pims- that is hilarious!

:laugh3: 'I'm innocent, honest!!!'

yeah, you forgot music... they are musicians, you know

:o Well this is news to me!! :bomb:

Is not much about the immature people, but more about the superficial and inappropriate comments they make.. and also the threads made that come with it.

Nicely summed up :D

I think some people here treats them just like the jonas brothers... and even worst.. talking about them in a sexual way.... I've read some really gross comments in the coldplay section

Exactly on the point. As a guy, you know, I can see that the boys are good looking :laugh4:, but like, its a bit crazy to focus on that as their main point rather than the music and who they are as people.

To be honest when there is no news I'd rather see a thread about "Chris and his funny quotes" or something get lots of attention rather than just monotonous pic posting.

i understand where you guys are coming from, however, there is the Releases section.

LOLOLOLOLOL!

The Releases section is very dead, try again.

Anyways, Lore brought up a point I've been arguing for weeks.

I don't visit the fan fic thread because then my rant would be even bigger

We take pride in unnecessarily rolling in our own dirt, it seems. The fanfic thread... you find good stuff in there and ze soft porn. Usually if there is a warning above the spoiler tag, that should tell you, and I've suggested to many asking me what should be okay to put warnings. The picture threads don't follow this however, because a lot of the people posting think the other people posting are the only other people wanting to read the thread. If that makes sense...

Anyways, the point about the actual news being pushed out is very true. I didn't even know there'd been new interviews with the boys around now at all 'cuz the threads didn't pop up in new posts. Ye.

[/end babbling]

Hi there :)

It is interesting to see how much we care about other people opinions even if the chance that we will ever meet them in real life is sooooo very slim that we could also simply ignore them. But were would be the fun then? ;)

I joined some time ago but never really took the time to post a reply as I am quite a lazy person and my English isn't really that good but I love to read threads no matter what they are about. I especially love threads where I can get pictures from the band members and I like to read what other people think about them - no matter if it is about their looks or their hobbies or their music or whatsoever. It is nice. I don't know a real live person who actually likes coldplay and with whom I could share my love for their music. Most of my friends are guys and they prefer The Prodigy or Rammstein to Coldplay. Not that I don't like their taste in music but it is kind of frustrating if you can't talk with them about your favourite band (altough I am more the kind of listener/reader than talker/writer ;)).

My point is that I think what people do like to forget is that this is a place for fans or at least people who are interested in Coldplay no matter if they are hardcore into them or not. And there is nowhere written what you have to be interested in if you are a fan of a band and join their messenger board.

You want to talk about their music? Great! Find a bunch of people who share your interest and do so. :) You want to talk about your love for a special bandmember? Wonderful! I am quite sure that there will always be enough people to be found who share your interest in them. :) You want to talk about their concerts, albums or music vidoes? Then do so because again I am quite sure that you will be lucky enough to find someone to do just that. :) You want to talk about your desire to bed some of the guys? Be my guest. Why not? Come one I seriously doubt that this is harmful - maybe a bit annoying for some people (guys and girls who are not interested in such talk) but what the heck? They always have to possibility to leave the thread or leave a stupid reply so other people can get annoyed over it and start a big discussion because of it. And we love to do that don't we? *lol*

I like coldplay and I really don't have the desire to elaborate on the reason to anyone why exactly that is the case. If I like them just for their sweet arses? So what? Sue me or think me as a lesser beeing. I so don't care. As I said before it is very unlikely that I will ever meet a single person from this messenger board in real life so why should I care about their approval or opinion about me? I don't understand why you have to explain to anyone why you like someone or something? It is none of their business. They don't have to pay for my likes or dislikes do they?

I will tell you what I think about the person who startet this thread because I feel like sharing when it comes to that. I think it is someone who like to talk and be talked to. Someone who likes to feel superior to other people for whatever reason it may be (and why not? We all do that in one way or another no matter how nice or good we are most of the time ;)). Maybe it is a loner in real life or maybe he is just frustrated and needs someplace to makes himself feel better.

Then again it could also be a person who was just bored and couldn't think of anything better to do than to start this very funny thread that moment (because heck - funny it is! When I read it I had to laugh about so many comments and insults... I kind of felt like watching my little nices with their friends when they bicker. Very entertaining and very senseless at the same time. *g*). Maybe on the other hand it is just a nice person who expressed their opinion in a wrong and quite offensive way. Who knows for sure? I don't.

Whatever the reason for the creation of this thread was in the end it is unimportant. Like every "discussion" it is something that makes you talk, talk, talk and try to convience another person of the rightfullness of your opinion (because that is what a discussion is about - you don't force your opinion on someone or at least you should not do that but you try to make him see your point) and I can just talk for myself but most of the time I stuck with my position that I am right and the other person is wrong. So this thread is a place for many persons who like to tell their opinion and get frustrated over the fact that they can't make all the other persons to see things their way. And with frustration their comes agression and with agression there comes the willingness to attack even if it is just with stupid little insults which makes one feel better. ;)

Anyway I don't want to make anyone stop from discussing their opinions about beeing a Coldplay fan or their reasons why they are allowed to call themselve fans. It is really not my place to do so seeing that I am just like the rest of you. I desire to share my opinion. *lol*

I want you to know that it really is not my intention to insult anyone so pleaso don't take it that way. I just felt the desire to write a replay on this particular thread. ;)

And to the person who start this thread (if he should ever read this which I am sure will be the case) - I can't remember your name and I am too lazy to look for it now, sorry - my opinion about you above is meant to be a little bit insulting because I really don't like your reasoning for this thread or your disrespectful way to deal with the fans in this board. If you don't like it why the hell are you here? Maybe the board is different than some years ago but things change and there are places where you don't have to read about the things you seem to dislike so much. Why do you seek it out at all if you don't like it in the first place? I mean you have to know that you annoy and insult people with that kind of posts. How old are you that you feel good about stuff like that. I don't say that the thread itself is for nothing because you can talk about that stuff but that really, really childish and inmature way you started it is outstanding for itself (not that most of the following posts are much better). No person should starts a thread with an insult within their first two posts. This is laughable seriously. :laugh3:

the one thing that sums it up for me, was my reaction to Phil at the War Child gig. When he said he visited the board regularly, my first thought wasn't "awesome, he visits a site that I spend a lot of time & energy on", it was "OMG, I hope he hasn't read threads x,y & z".

Meh. I doubt Coldplay or those associated with them take anything on this forum all that seriously. It's all in good fun. Or at least it should be.

I mean, the real world sucks enough for me, and the last thing I want when I come here is to deal with people who might insult you or be rude because it amuses them.

Well said!
