No, I agree but the problem is when these threads overwhelm anything else. There's been about four or five interviews with Chris these past few weeks, a few nice videos of Jonny and Will meeting fans and most of them haven't gone beyond 2 pages of discussion, which is crazy when the members of the band we all love are talking about music and shows and no one seems to be interested.

 

Like on the first page now (I imagine this thread will already be down the page by the time I finish typing) there's a ton of picture threads then the interview with Chris I posted two days ago, with only 8 replies.

and a random question: what do the guys that visit this section think?

 

Though I am a woman, I can probably tell you what many guys think, which can be compared to what guys say about girls who like sports and, in particular, a certain player. Mnay guys would say that the girl is only interested in the guy/band only because of his or their looks. They are not truly interested in the music and when the next big/hot thing comes along then they will follow it. They would say that the girl will eventually lose interest in the guy/band.

 

For girls who are truly interested in the music it becomes hard for them to be taken seriously. I am not discrediting anyone with my comments. I am just comparing it to what many guys say to girls when it comes to sports.

 

It is only human nature to notice how attractive one is and there is nothing wrong in admitting it (guys would agree with this) but there has to be more substance to the discussion. When you can have a discussion with substance and back it up then it goes over better.

 

I'll admit that I probably have made some comments that were not right but I really would love to talk about the music but it's so hard. Sometimes I feel there is no audience out there for that type of discussion so I rarely post.

I know what you all mean but I think you chose a bad example, Mich, as there is not much to comment on in my opinion!

There were so many interviews recently, all with the same content of information more or less, with some funny sentences... but that's about it.

You read it, yes, but don't have the need to actually add something.

 

An interesting one in my opinion that didn't get much attention was this one:

I don't think there are too many threads about the "pairings" and the band members, it's the content that goes out of control sometimes but I don't think there were many people here who completely stayed out of the madness! :P

With content I mean that this is a public forum and young people can read it as well so in my opinion there are things that you can think and say in private but not post in a thread.

Maybe only 9 people did comment on it but 190 people read it!

 

Unfortunately the way this forum operates it only bumps up the threads according to posts so it doesn't really show the true picture. I must admit I don't always comment but I do read nearly all the interviews, news articles etc but I also admit to being an active member of the "girly" threads.

 

Another forum I visit a lot (not Coldplay) has a system where you can just click "agree" or "disagree" or "love" after reading a post which shows the consensus of opinion without people commenting after everything.

I'm not sure how addicted I am, but I drive for a living, and from the start I play all of Parachutes, then ROBTTH, then X&Y and ect..... this is everyday!!! Yeah, I think I love the music:D

I agree. Some were so vulgar that it sounds so disrespectful. We always think we are fans of the coolest band in the world yet treat them like they're just another boyband that is trying to get fangirls attention as much as possible.

Adoring the photos are ok (it's not our fault that they're gorgeous :P) but treating them like a sex toy is not the way to go about it.

And it says a lot about that person too.

I used to visit the pictures threads because I like pics, but now there's 1 pic and 10 scary comments so I skip those threads most of the time :uhoh:

People are a bit too obsessive about the band on here sometimes.

Well, there is an academic approach to fan girls and their use of fandom. It's by no means wrong, just a different expression of fandom.

 

Just ignore it if you don't like it.

If this is where people come to relax from their real lives and have a little bit of harmless, mindless chatter why should anyone stop them?

 

Honestly I've learned a loooong time ago, if there is something you don't want to see on the internet, scroll past it. It's that simple, if I see something I don't like or don't agree with I scroll past or go to a different page.

 

It's not like there aren't enough places in this forum for everyone to go to find something that suits their interest. There are hundreds of threads, and thousands of users, so to say what people should or should not use this board for is being a bit confining for the size of this community.

it's not like I'm blind or something like that, they're really handsome guys, and also sweet with the fans and etc... I love jonny but still, sometimes I think that 90% of the talk here is about their looks... and pkay, I love the C&J thread and bla bla bla, but I think that it's all about keeping a balance, I'm not saying that we should discuss just the music, but I think that the coldplay section is becoming more and more superficial everyday

 

and it's not like "if you don't like these threads just don't go there" because the first page of the coldplay section is basically just that kind of threads

 

 

and also there's a thing called respect, I think it's really disrespectful to treat the guys that way, like if they were porn stars or something like that...
