Gwyneth Paltrow Says Husband Chris Martin Is A 'Genius' Actor | MTV

We know that Gwyneth Paltrow has the singing chops to portray a down-on-her-luck Nashville star in "Country Strong." But what MTV News didn't know was whether her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has what it takes to venture into the world of acting.

So we went straight to Paltrow and asked: Does Martin have acting skills as stellar as her singing talents?

"Definitely," Paltrow said of Martin's acting potential. "I don't think he would ever do it, but he's genius. Did you ever see him in 'Extras'?" Paltrow offered as proof. In his episode of the short-lived Ricky Gervais show, Martin guest-starred as an arrogant, exaggeratedly self-absorbed version of himself who tries to sneak a mention of a new Coldplay album into a public-service announcement about the need for clean drinking water.

Well, if Martin won't consider acting, might Paltrow consider doing a cover of a Coldplay song?

"Me? God no," Paltrow said. "No. We just can't, like, merge. His career is there and mine is there."

Don't count Paltrow out of the singing game yet, however. She did put some thought into what type of music she'd sing on an album of her own.

"I think if I was going to make a country record, it would be, like, a super-bare, kind of stripped-back kind of country," Paltrow explained. "Like a little bit of bluegrass-influenced kind of thing."

But Paltrow said she wouldn't necessarily limit herself to one genre, saying she really loved singing Cee Lo's "Forget You" on "Glee." "I also love singing '40s standards and stuff like that," she added.

Go for it, Gwyneth! And get your hubby to do some more acting while you're at it.

She ain't lying. I've often thought the same thing about Chris, lol.

I'm not sure someone has noticed this, but I think Chris mentioned Gwyneth's name during Christmas Lights in Liverpool. He was smiling at someone just before that.

You can watch it in this video posted in Coldplay's website

An 'in-your-face' moment for all the haters lol.

Really....are we sure it was her there? A few people got a closer look and said it wasn't her?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not G...I think that's Arlene Moon??

I don't think he says "Gwyneth". Sounds more like something that starts with an "F" or "Ph". Can't make it out properly though.

Oh yes, it's Arlene !!:sneaky:

:laugh3: still have a grudge against her as I see  :D

"My daughter asks me these big questions, like 'Where is Brucie?' (Paltrow's late father, Bruce) and 'Is there a heaven?' and 'Where do you go when you die?' " she says. "She's 6½ going on 88. She's so deep. Just the other night she was asking me about that, and I said, 'I could tell you what I believe: I hope that he's in another dimension somewhere and that the spirit lives on, but the truth is I don't really know.' And she was like 'Well, you should look it up on the Internet.' "

Oh my God, this is so cute and hilarious  :wacky:

Edit: Nevermind.

Q. Hi Oracle,

Who did Chris shoutout to during Christmas Lights at the Liverpool Gig? He did sneak something into the lyrics...

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

The Oracle replies:

I awoke to an email this morning from Roadie #42 explaining in case anyone asked about the change in lyrics. Natalie you were the first one to ask closely followed by Eva in the Netherlands...

Chris shouted "Phythers" and then sings "How I always loved you Phythers and I always will".

Phythers is the nickname of Mark Phythian, recording Engineer who worked alongside Producer Ken Nelson on the first three records.

They first met Mark at Parr St. Studios in Liverpool and always loved working with him.

Chris spotted him in the balcony during the song and was visibly thrilled to see him.

There you go, its not Gwyneth or Phyllis. :D But its definitely Phy.... :P

Ah, bummer. Would have been better if it's Gwyneth though, break those pathetic hopeful people's heart a bit.

There you go, its not Gwyneth or Phyllis. :D But its definitely Phy.... :P

Wow! I would have never guessed! I probably would have gone on thinking it was Phillis! :D
