Gwyneth Paltrow's Mom Praises Actress and Ex Chris Martin for "Making It Work," Co-Parenting Apple and Moses

 

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow might not be together romantically anymore, but he's still mom-approved!

Blythe Danner praised her daughter and the Coldplay singer for how well they've handled their split, telling Page Six, "They're making it work, they're great friends and the kids are in wonderful shape. [The couple's daughter Apple is 10 and son Moses in 8.] So I have to take my hat off to both of them."

Danner, 71, said Paltrow, 42, and Martin, 37, "are so smart...both incredibly brilliant." She was, however, a bit confused by the phrase her Goop goddess daughter brought to popularity last year: "Conscious uncoupling."

"People make fun of this, um, what do they call it? What is that thing that they've been doing? Separating, but being?" she asked the New York Post reporter at a VIP dinner held for her Sundance film, I'll See You in My Dreams.

Danner was reminded that "conscious uncoupling" was the phrase she was looking for. "Yes," she said, "but it's called 'conscious'...not 'conscious uncoupling.' Conscious..." Apparently, she gave up on trying to speak the language of her daughter and moved the conversation along. She was certainly aware, though, her Oscar-winning offspring's terminology had really taken off!

Paltrow's mother is also well aware of what an amazing 33-year marriage she had to Bruce Paltrow, who died in 2002. But after a love like that, could Danner ever see herself dating again? "'When you've had the best, forget the rest,' and I kind of feel that way," she told Page Six. "I had an incredible husband. It would be great if somebody fell in from the sky…because you do get lonely as you get older. But I'm very grateful that I have grandchildren on both coasts and they fill my heart."
