Random Coldplay thoughts...

Featured Replies

On Rove today (weekly chat show here) they had Tim Cahill and Archie Thompson from the Socceroos on the show. Rove asked if they had any preshow rituals and Archie said that before every game he has to listen to a "certain song ... 'Fix You' by Coldplay". Rove was like "Is there a special reason because it's not exactly a song that would pump you up" (I'm paraphrasing here) and Archie said that it's because his son was born to that song, so it's a special song for him. Pretty random Coldplay occurance.

It was weird though because as soon as he said he had to listen to a certain song I was reminded of Justin Timberlake and 'Clocks' so as soon as Archie said 'Fix' I was like "Wow, he listens to Coldplay too!" and my sister was in the room at the time so I have proof :D

  • I just wanted to say, after 5 years of being part of the Coldplay fandom, first on Coldplaying, now on Coldplaying, Twitter and other platforms, a wonderful thing happened today: Coldplay followed me

  • I ran away
    I ran away

On this day exactly 5 years ago, a young and innocent person who was just getting really into Coldplay wanted to sign up on a forum called Coldplaying. Faced with the question of what to pick as a use

  • Today exactly 5 years ago, I joined the Coldplaying community and I don't regret that that. To be honest, it's probably one of the best things that have happened in my life! I had never thought I woul

the no.1 i listen in my ipod is Clocks live in holland...but just 87 times...because i have too much songs in my ipod...:P

Don't be ashamed. :P 87 is a good number. I've only listened to that song... *goes to look* 52 times... Well, that does

But Moses I have listened to 109 times! w00t!

I came into work yesterday and one of the guys that works with me said he was at MGM Studios at Rock n Roller Coaster ride and he was talking to this guy waiting for the ride and he said he worked with Coldplay. So like everyone knows me at work and my love for CP, so he mentioned me to the guy and how was crazy about them and went to Philly with those signs ... anyway, this guy told him, yeah, I'm the man they come to with any problems and he is always with Chris and hangs out with him and his wife. I asked him if he said his name was Miller and he said yeah that's the name. And tells this story of how Chris and Gwyneth and himself on the back porch one night and there was a hanging light and Chris swung it back and forth. Thought it was cool and wanted to do it on stage. He told him, that would be hard to do, but Chris told him to do it anyway...whatever he had to do. So that's where he got the idea for the light on Fix You. :)

^^Awwwwww that is so awesome! :nice:

Jealous of that guy...haha!

^^that's sooooo cool!!!

had a really good coldplay dream last night. they were giving a concert in some crappy school gym, and there was an intermission where everyone got cake. i had to help serve the cake for some reason, but chris stayed to talk to me. jonny had apple on his lap and was teaching her about atoms. will and guy werent really in the dream, though. and then on the way home, chris and i were in the backseat of my family's minivan (???) and i fell asleep on him and we held hands.

it was a very nice dream.

also watched live 2003 for the first time in a long time, and it was like seeing it for the first time. it was INCREDIBLE. that makes live in toronto look like shit.

another thing: (im bored, dont shoot me :\ )

i was lying in bed last night, listening to "the scientist" on my ipod. i got thinking about the video and how chris had to learn it backwards. then i thought of the song from the toronto concert and how they played this cool little bit thing after the song while they were changing into the acoustic set. then i sat BOLT UPRIGHT in bed with my eyes wide and realized that what they played at the toronto concert was "the scientist" backwards! that was a huge realization for me, and ive never been so snapped awake before!

yes, i am a loser....

and i just got the song on this forum a few minutes ago, and it's INCREDIBLE. i want to hear more stuff backwards!

i dont know whether i'm a genius for making this connection or an idiot for it taking me this long to realize that's what they were playing in the toronto concert.

Last night I was watching TV with my brother and he had control of the remote. He was flicking through the music channels and on VH1 'The Hardest Part' was on but he never kept it there for more than a second! He flipped to it a few times but never kept it on. I was like "You don't like Coldplay?" even though I know he doesn't. He said that he's never been able to listen to the entire song because he can't stand the video clip (I guess he's not fond of seemingly semi-naked old ladies). I hoped that he would have left it on the song though because I haven't seen a Coldplay videoclip on the TV in a while.

I was at the gym today and in the cardio room they have all these televisions up with normal TV but also some TVs with music. I was on the treadmills with the headphones listening to the music on the TVs and all of a sudden... "Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do" Clocks!! I was so happy! I've been going to the gym for a month, two or three times a week, and that was the first time I've heard Coldplay there! It was really cool to see the video clip again as well! My two friends who I was there with were sitting because they'd finished with the treadmills and I was trying to get eye contact to point it out to them but they were talking so I didn't manage to do so.

They had some good songs today... Livin' On A Prayer and Bittersweet Symphony. Usually they play songs I'm not too into.

went to a sweet 16 yesterday for one of my good friends from middle school, me and my best friend get called up to light a candle and what song does she play? CLOCKS! Ahh, she knows me so well :D

This morning, I've been working in factory where they make coffee...

I saw some big bags of coffee from Guatemala and it was written "Fairtrade Coffee"...

It wasn't long before Coldplay came to my mind!

I had an urge to turn the radio on today and I caught the last half of a live version of In My Place. Pretty cool! I don't know where it was recorded at, though, but it sounded so fun. I can hardly wait until Coldplay comes back!

a few things:

1. i was at a scottish wedding on saturday, and outside the church there was a bagpiper. he was basically playing bits of whatever came to mind, like "jesus christ superstar" and pretty contemporary stuff. my dad was really trying to get me to go over to him and ask him to play "clocks" on the bagpipes. i thought this was hilarious, and i think you would too if you knew my dad.

2. i was straightening my hair in my bathroom and suddenly i hear some pretty familiar sounds coming out of my brothers guitar. it sounded SO much like clocks, but it stopped too quickly for me to confirm it.

3. in the car the other day my brother was whistling. I was like "are you whistling 'clocks'?!" and he looked like he'd been caught red-handed and said "yes," in this ashamed way. then he admitted he'd stolen my sheet music and learned the chords for it on guitar. HAH! and then the next day, he had red electrical tape on his fingers JUST LIKE CHRIS. he said it was to cover up a burn he had gotten the night before, but wouldnt any normal person just use a bandaid?

my family is becoming pretty coldplay-versed.

^ I think your brother is becoming a Coldplay fan. Congrats! LOL, my family just thinks I'm whacko. Seriously, you cannot use tape as a band-aid! O_o That would be rather peculiar...

...

Does anyone know how they originated their name Coldplay? :P Don't yell at me if its the most obvious thing in the world... No one ever told me, maybe no one knows... ^_^

Name

^^^^ Nah, don't feel bad cpacat. :) I didn't know where they got it from either for awhile.

Anyway, I heard that they got the infamous name "Cold Play" from a children's poetry book by Philip Horky.

Supposedly, another band had rejected the name because it sounded too depressing.... (depressing?! not at all! It just brings me good memories! :P)

Hey Awhisper21

You should definitely listen to more Coldplay songs backward! They're sooo cool! :dozey: (hehehe I sound like a nerd)

and I too had noticed that they had played a little clip of "The Scientist" backwards during the concert too. How neat!

One of my new favorite preformances from Coldplay, and it's a song i've never heard before, Spies! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcC7oxP1zeI Looks like this was when Coldplay wasn't 'big' yet, of i could go back and be in that crowd! Definitely one of my favorite Coldplay songs now.

Yes, the name Coldplay was used to be the name of Tim Rice-Oxley's band before he formed Keane. Tim is now the keyboardist of Keane.

He didn't want to use it anymore because, like you've said, the name was too depressing. Then Chris came to Tim asking his permission to use Coldplay as his band name.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

As for random Coldplay thoughts, mmmm.... I have none right now. :D

^ i think chris asked tim to join coldplay , and he nearly did but keane got a record contract so he didn't ! i don't know about the name , though.

Origin of the Name

Thanks for that awesome "Spies" performance! Their soooo young and... not known! I Love that song too. It makes you wish that you could have met them when they were that "unknown".

"Eventually , a mutual friend of the band - Tim from the band 'The HIgh Wire' (not Tim Rice-Oxley, as previously reported), gave the band permission to use the name "Coldplay", which he had rejected for his band as he thought it was "too depressing". The name also comes from a collection of poems by Philip Horky."

I guess it's not Tim from Keane, Julissofine. ;) Oh well, I would have thought so too....

Now that I think about it, I do remember someone asking if that Tim was from Keane before. One of the moderators said it was not the Tim from Keane,

just some other person from another band (apparently "The High Wire")

Interesting....

RANDOM Coldplay Thoughts = SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT ALBUM!!!! :D

Oh, I went to a guitar/music store today and guess what?

I was just snooping around checking out the guitars and .... there it was!

Jonny's Fender Telecaster Thinline in the natural wood colour. I just drooled :drunk:

(one of the music store clerks asked me if I was "okay"! hehehe if he only knew what a "COLDPLAY MOMENT" was)

The guitar was so pretty and I got to even play it. Ahhh, it played like a dream.

Anyone else ever played one of "Jonny's guitars" ? (not literally his guitar....though that would be sweet... hehehe  )

today i had to do a huge presentation at school using my computer over a projector. as the techies were setting up my computer, my desktop came up, which is a big shot of my name in baudot color code (the same code used on the X&Y album cover, created with this website), and because the set-up was taking forever, everyone saw my desktop. most people rolled their eyes, recognizing it as coldplay, but one of my friends (who is a punked-out rocker with a mohawk and spiked jewlery) called out "HEY! what does that say?" and i told him that it said my name. i thought it was cool that he (of all people) recognized it as coldplay and knew enough about it to realize that it spelled something.

now thats really random.

Not really a random thought, but I was watching this episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks today and the host Simon had a little anecdote about meeting Chris. Start at 8:00. It was so great to hear them talk about Coldplay.

To be honest, I got that info from wikicoldplay too. ;) :D

I didn't know they had revised it. Thanks a lot for posting the correct one, ColdplayBirdsFly! :)

Yesterday after work, I went to a coffee shop with a friend when I heard a tune that sounds like Clocks from another store. I couldn't hear it clearly thus I asked my friend if he heard it too. He said, "Yeah, probably. So?" :D

I haven't heard Clocks for quite a long time, so I refused to talk while Clocks was still playing to 'concentrate' listening to it. :laugh3:

I feel kinda silly right now. :P

^ I've done that "concentrating" thing when I hear a Coldplay song in the distance. At the time it feels totally justified.

CP Moment

^^^^ Awesome. That happens to me too!

My friends or parents will tell other people that I'm having one of my regular "Coldplay Moments" :D

Just Love it when you stop talking or have to shush someone because you really think that you hear a Coldplay song.

hehehe .... We aren't crazy! :rolleyes2:

~*Somewhere a Coldplay song is playing....*~

lol, I had the best trip ever! (Alright, maybe not...)

My mom and I went to California to see the beach. It only took 9 hours to get there by car... (Of course we got lost a few times. My mom said she didn't need any maps and let's just 'wing it') It could have taken only 6 hours instead of 9... Fortunately, I brought my iPod. I was planning to do the following things:

1. Walk along the beach's coastline listening to... YELLOW

2. When nighttime approaches and the stars come out in the desert with no city lights listen to... SPEED OF SOUND & THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

3. When almost home listen to... CLOCKS...

Three Coldplay moments all within 24 hours. :D That's what I call awesome.
