Viva La Vida, huh? Not a bad album name, could be worse. The title of it changes my opinion on what tracks will be on it now, definitely.

 

Then what's Famous New Painters? A side-project they're working on...? Maybe a page showing the art of Viva La Vida (bit like Linkin Park's Meteora).

 

I'm sure the tour's gonna get the name of Life in Technicolour now, as I suspected before...

Bleh, I personally hate the title. I'm still excited as fuck for the album, but the title is just so ridiculous. First off, everybody is most definitely going to make the Ricky Martin comparison, which is going to be annoying as tits within the first week the album's out.

 

Second off, for such a cool, conceptual album (based on the other Rolling Stone article) and with the new sound that they're going for, "Viva La Vida" seems like just a bastard of a choice. "42" was cryptic, metaphorical, and quite ironic. "Famous New/Old Painters" was acceptable, as we could see the artwork and concept of the whole album coming together. "Viva La Vida" just seems so... not Coldplay. It's like something I'd expect Jack Johnson or KT Tunstall to do. It has no deeper meaning behind it. Not to mention, with a name like "Viva La Vida" it seems to directly contradict the tone of the songs that Rolling Stone previewed, where some were about death or darkness. Not really the "dark" tone I was looking for with the album title.

 

Thirdly, aside from the title not having any real meaning, it would seem odd to make an album title in Spanish. I really can't remember the last time an English-speaking band named an album in something other than English. I understand Chris trying to be original and I understand that the phrase meant something to him, but it seems like such a disappointing choice. We waited and waited to hear the new album title, and it's in Spanish?

 

All in all, the choice for album titles disappoints me. After great names like "Parachutes" and "A Rush of Blood to the Head" and even "X&Y" (all of which had deeper meanings behind the titles), seeing "Viva La Vida" is quite a poor choice.

 

Oh, and I'm currently in my fourth year of Spanish in college, and "Viva La Vida" definitely translates as "Live The Life", not "Long Live Life". "Long Live Life" would be "La Vida Vive", or "the life lives on". Perhaps my Spanish is rusty, someone who is fluent can correct me if I'm wrong.

It's funny, when I was looking at the web art yesterday and seeing 'viva la vida' written all over the place, especially on this one http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/gallery/data/512/look12.jpg I was thinking "famous old painters is ok, but that would make such a great album title. Especially with all the life and colour in the artwork. I wish they would use it."

Besides, it sounds nice- great sounds and rhythm to it if you stop thinking about associations for a second and just pay attention to how it feels on your tongue and in your ears.

 

And really, it's old school Coldplay with a language twist. "Life is for Living" "We live in a beautiful world" "Long live life". How much more Coldplay-ish does it need to be? could it be?

I translated the album title into English and it simply means 'Live Life'.

Well, I was correct about some things. No, it's not "42" like I was 97% sure it would be, but in my last post on the other thread I was skeptical that the title would be "famous old(new) painters". I must say that I would've prefered the other ones to "viva la vida" I hate how it reminds me of Ricky Martin (although I do like how Chris discovered it), and it's not the most enthralling title. Sounds poppy and kind of opposite the vibes I've been getting about the album.

Chris was right about one thing, the title doesn't sound like the same band at all. I'm sure it wouldn've been very different if they didn't have so much fun on the south-american mini tour lol. Anyway, not over-the-moon about the name. But that ignored, I love how everything else (the website, song descriptions etc.) is going.

why is the album called viva la vida if the new album is suppose to be "dark"

Well coldplay never described it as "dark" in their own words. suspicions of dark themes came from titles like "death and his friends", hopes and wishes of various coldplayers and active imaginations. Will said it was about focusing on the important things in life, a very "coldplay" theme. Like every album it will have it's highs and lows, pessimism and optimism. I expect this one to find new ground with some experimentalism, different lyrical/musical structures, different instrumentation etc. but I wouldn't expect it to be entirely "dark" like some are saying/hoping.

I don't really care for the title, but the title doesn't really matter to me,as long as the music is good.
