Albums that have been released in 2008 that are worth hearing

Featured Replies

You might also like April by Sun Kil Moon? Similar in sound and feel to Bon Ivers "wintery" mood....

Could you Sendy to me?

I have used up my June's budget on CDs already :embarassed:

Portishead - Third

Why oh why haven't I listened to it earlier? :bigcry:

Other albums that I've heard which were good overall or better:

Destroyer - Troubled In Dreams

Sun Kil Moon - April

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

Magnetic Fields - Distortion

The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride

The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

REM - Accelerate

The Black Keys - Attack and Release

Hot Chip - Made in the Dark

Portishead - Third

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs

NIN - The Slip

No Age - Nouns

I'm looking forward to the new albums by MMJ, Wolf Parade, Sigur Ros and The Hold Steady, and also Coldplay; Weezer.

I agree, a definite must-buy for any music fan.

Weezer's new one is decent. A week after Coldplay's album drops in the US, Kutless (Christian rock) is releasing their new album and it is VERY good. Don't let the Christian rock label scare you off. In fact, you can get their new single for free here:

Although, I don't think this is the best song on the new album. And for our British friends, they recorded some of this album at Abbey Road and that's also where the pictures are taken.

wait doesn't weezer's come out the 17th?

I don't know when it comes out, all I know is that I have it...

Just looked it up on iTunes, it comes out Tuesday. But apparently it's leaked haha.

Well I'm sure just about anything will be better than the horrific disaster that Make Believe was.

For me so far (new sigur ros excites me, as does new mew) this year has been relatively flat, but so far i've liked:

This Town Needs Guns - Self Titled

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs (BIG change musically for them, not lyrically though)

City & Colour - Bring Me Your Love

Great album! One of my favourites this year for sure.

^ Have you heard it? How is it? Is it good? :D

Yeah, I don't know much about Weezer, but I would say this album reminds me a lot of the Red Hot Chili Peppers in some songs, it's definitely an upbeat album. I've only heard the Green Album and Make Believe so I might not be the best person to ask haha.

  • 4 weeks later...
The Kooks have their new album up on their myspace. Just finished listening. Sounds good.

I just bought Moby's "Last Night" I liked it so much. His best in a long time.

And don't forget Gnarls Barkley!

i loved "last night", although he broke away from his original style and moved to club, he still sounds as good as ever

R.E.M. - Accelerate

(Amazing album, rocky and to the point! Best album they've made since Up)

Radiohead - In Rainbows

(technically it came out in 2007, but only a day before 2008)

and obviously

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

So far the only albums released this year that I've been able to hear in entirety are:

Goldfrapp - "Seventh Tree"

Portishead - "Third"

The Ting Tings - "We Started Nothing"

Death Cab For Cutie - "Narrow Stairs"

Weezer - The Red Album

those five are worth hearing.

well...maybe a little less Portishead. i was a little disappointed with that one, but still good nonetheless.

'Viva la Vida' - Coldplay (obviously)

and i want to hear 'Dig Out Your Soul' by Oasis

Seth Lakeman - Poor Man's Heaven

Not everybody's cup of tea as it's folk, but it contains the best lyrics of the year for me.

Feeder - Silent Cry (The guys sounded a bit like coldplay a few years back, now they sound far more focused and rockier, has some real alternative rock anthems worth checking out)
