May 30, 200818 yr Let me point out that I agree that standing is better than having ticketed seats (which by the way, no one sits in anyway). But I just have to say, I find it impossible to complain about seeing Coldplay at all. Me + Coldplay in the same room = pure happiness. There are no downsides to that. Fair enough, it makes sense to seem them sitting than not see them at all, it's still disappointing though.
May 30, 200818 yr I'm very disappointed there's no standing. If there was a policy of "all-seats" worldwide, I'd understand it, but in Germany there are standing areas in the large venues, so what's the difference? Seems like once again it might be down to "nanny-state" Britain. Germany still has standing areas in its football stadiums without any problems too. I went to a big match here and it made a massive difference in terms of atmosphere. It's obviously wrong to have a go at the band for this, as the decision almost certainly had nothing to do with them. Any blame must lie with the promoters, tour organisers. the government, or all three. Also, there should have been a fans' pre-sale as there was last time around. It's too late now of course, but somebody should at least be able to come forward with an explanation. How is the 02 any different from Earl's Court three years ago? Everything worked fine there as far as I could tell..................................... ;)
May 30, 200818 yr I just feel like I'm gonna be sat around people who probably aren't even that into them......when you queue to be at the front, you're with all the hardcore fans and it's just better. That happened to me when I saw them at the Beacon actually, because that was part of their "buzz tour" before the real tour. The only people who had tickets were radio or record label people or whatever (I snuck in actually... long story) and I was standing up and dancing in seats in the back (I started in the back where they wouldnt check tickets- because i didnt actually have any- but i moved closer and closer to the stage as the show progressed) and people were looking at me and thought i was crazy. i really did not care though. that was the first time i saw Coldplay, and probably the best night of my life!!!!
May 30, 200818 yr I saw Muse at Earl's court standing, it was immense.. but only managed to get seating tickets for manchester, and the same thing happened to me.. being stuck at the back with people seemed like they hadn't even heard of muse, and a dead atmosphere. Every coldplay gig I've been too (and there has been quite a few) I have always stood, I can't imagine not standing :confused: Same. It annoys me so much!!! A lot of the people buying the tickets are going on the status and hype that Coldplay has in the world at this moment. I suppose thats something us fans just have to live with :( They had BETTER PLAY OLD SONGS TO MAKE UP FOR THIS!!!!!!!!! :veryangry::laugh3: and yeah. I was standing for Earls Court, and I was front row for Isle of Wight Festival.....with all the other people who wanted to be there that much. Surely the band want their most excited supporters at the front? :(

May 30, 200818 yr I actually preferred sat down because I'm only little. In 2002 had to cling to the barrier for dear life with Ian stood protecting me. Still got battered as people further back tried to push their way to the front. 2003, we didn't make it to the barrier, so I ended up separated from Ian. Some drunken oaf kept leaning on me trying to see better so I nearly got knocked off my feet & trampled on. 2005 - 3 shows. all seated. was able to see as was higher than stage level. didn't get jumped on, squashed or trampled on. had plenty of space to dance/jump up and down. :D I came away with all sorts of bruises after being on the barrier, including once from some girl who seemed to think that any sort of violence was acceptable if she managed to get me and my friends away from the front so she could get in :rolleyes: If you're sat down, get up and dance/mosh/scream/all of the above. I know there's always the possibility of being surrounded by people who don't seem into it (I had a whole stadium of that last year for one gig :rolleyes: ) but I've found in the past that I can ignore them and have my own little party. This is a different situation to normal, and it might not be what you're used to, but it can still be an awesome time. To be honest, I know I was moaning a bit earlier, but I don't really care all that much. I've missed my Coldplay fix for the last couple of years, and this is going to be a good December. And, don't get into the 'real fan' debate. Getting to the barrier doesn't make you a 'real fan' any more than someone who gets a seating ticket at the side.

May 30, 200818 yr Whether you sit or stand has nothing to do with how big a fan you are, of course. However: 1. There should always be a choice. 2. You can be sure those who do make it to the front deserve to be there as they've been prepared to make the effort (in terms of queueing) beforehand. You certainly can't say the same in terms of front-row seats, which are likely to have gone to the highest bidders or VIPs.

The only Coldplay show in the US I ever went to that wasn't seated was in Tampa and that was only because it was outdoors. I guess its a culture difference but I don't see why you all seem to be whining so much about this...be lucky you still have standing shows at it is...
May 31, 200818 yr I made this point on another thread. Here in the US, seating is more common and the big that happens here is that the best seats never even make it to general sale. For example, the best seats for coldplay in Las Vegas never even made general sale. There was a premium seat auction on ticketmaster-where you had to pay hundreds of dollars for a great seat. All the best seats were scalped or given to sponsors and the only way the ordinary fan can get great seats is to pay about face value from touts or secondary market. Radiohead tickets for Hollywood Bowl, L.A. have been changing hands for thousands of dollars for $65-$75 tickets. The competition for great seats is frenzied and crazy!! At least Radiohead had a fan sale-which is where I got mine! I got front row for coldplay in vegas through a connection-which still involved me doing some accountancy work for free, so really they cost me $200 above face value. This is standard in the US and I fear if you do nothing it will happen in the UK. It is far easier to scalp/tout seats than general admission because a great seat becomes more valuable. It simple economics, if there are 3,000 general admission tickets all those could potentially get to the front. But when there are less than 50 front row seats, well you have something much rarer! Resist and protest otherwise what is happens with gigs and tickets in the US will become in the norm in the UK. That is what ticketmaster, live nation and touts wants!

We were all well aware that the UK gigs were seating only - it said so a few days in advance on the ticket websites. As as for 'accepting it', you don't want to see Coldplay at a gig with no designated standing area? Then don't go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simple as that. Stop WHINING and sell your ticket to someone else who will be happy no matter where they are, grow up and shut up and just realise that this is the situation. I think they are upsetting a lot of fans recently with ticket prices, no fan pre-sale and ticket distribution policies. I think if you look after your fans then they look after you.
