November 28, 201015 yr Newcastle 1 - 1 Chelsea Chelsea missed out on the chance to return to the top of the table after being held to a draw at Newcastle. A misjudged back-pass by Alex gifted Andy Carroll the easiest of finishes to give the home side a fifth-minute lead. Chelsea were poor in the first half but went into the break level thanks to Salomon Kalou's deflected finish. The visitors improved after the break but a winner eluded them and they are now second in the league, two points behind Manchester United. Despite taking only four points from the last 15 available in the Premier League, talk of a full-blown crisis at Chelsea is somewhat premature. However the sense remains that something is not quite right at Stamford Bridge, both on and off the pitch. Whispers of unrest at the sacking of coach Ray Wilkins, coupled with yesterday's announcement of sporting director Frank Arnesen's impending departure have served only to place further scrutiny on a side whose confident early season swagger has been replaced by nervous uncertainty. And although they improved in the second half against Newcastle they were still far from their best on a weekend when Manchester United hit Blackburn for seven and Arsenal fired four past Aston Villa. With all the respect, Botafogo played like shit that match. And, surprisingly enough, our 2nd squad played very well. I thought that match was won :( So did I :rolleyes: 5-2:D, seems Rafa can make them win when he's facing the boot. I watched the last few minutes of this match, and the english commentator said Inter didn't deserve to win by three goals of difference. And, HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, what an awesome match Tottenham vs Liverpool was. COME ON YOU SPURS!!

Lennon ran through to slot in and move Harry Redknapp's side to within six points of the Premier League's summit. Spurs had gone behind when Martin Skrtel stabbed in from 10 yards after his header came back off David Ngog. Jermain Defoe missed a Spurs penalty but the home side levelled when Skrtel turned a Luka Modric cross into his own net before Lennon's late winner. November 29, 201015 yr That's the craziest big game I've ever seen, 5-0?! Fuck me, for that Madrid team to lose 5-0 to anyone just seemed unthinkable. That said the defence was a sham, it's crazy to think, but Barca easily could've gotten a few more. Sergio Ramos ended off a piss poor game by getting red carded. Probably more frustrated with how he played. No organisation whatsoever, and Barca did what they do best and looked incredibly comfortable with some of the slick passing and flicks they were pulling off. Great performance.

It was the noise of 100,000 jubilant souls, and yet its target was one greying, glowering Portuguese fellow in a trenchcoat. For a decade José Mourinho had been Barcelona’s bête noire, but on Monday night the Catalans, with as compelling a masterclass in football’s artistry as you are ever likely to see, exacted their glorious revenge. Welcome to El Gran Clásico, José. Mourinho, perhaps being punished for his customary torment of his one-time employers, turned out to be impotent in the face of Barcelona’s onslaught. A 5-0 humiliation on the game’s most august stage, with millions watching on television, would have cut him to the core and it was small wonder he spent much of a one-sided second half rooted in his dug-out. That the finest club fixture in any calendar was being staged on a Monday night had seemed to detractors to be a gimmick. Sunday’s elections in Catalonia had forced the showpiece to be delayed but when it came, it only affirmed the resurgence of a nationalist spirit in this city. The spectacle of a six-figure crowd preparing for kick-off with red, blue and gold banners declaring Mes que un club - at the same time as singing the Barcelona anthem in perfect harmony – surely stands among the most electrifying experiences sport can conjure. The cacophony only grew as Barcelona’s dominance became apparent. Beautifully-engineered first-half strikes by Xavi and Pedro represented the least the imperious home side deserved, but a brace for David Villa set the party alight. Real’s befuddled players, not least an anonymous Cristiano Ronaldo, beat a retreat back to the capital with tails between their legs. Mourinho’s critics would claim he had it coming. Although he had failed to lose in his first 25 games, Barcelona showed up the deficiencies of his sometimes defensive play in sharp relief. Their flair, their sheer ingenuity as they leapfrogged Real to the top of La Liga, was too much even for this wiliest of tacticians to combat. Both club presidents had exhorted their teams to produce a “festival”, an attacking exhibition, and the call did not take long to be heeded. But where Real’s pace was breathless, Barcelona’s proved irresistible. The patterns of interplay were mesmeric as Xavi and Andres Iniesta seamlessly found their rhythm, calling Pepe into action twice to cut out menacing balls towards Lionel Messi. As we had scarcely dared hope, this was what happened when 13 World Cup winners came together on the same pitch. The concentration of talent would have embarrassed even the great Barcelona regime of Johan Cruyff; wherever you looked, Guardiola’s all-stars were concocting their next devilish ploy. Sergio Busquets anchored the midfield triangle with geometric precision, enabling Messi to produce his first magic of the evening with a deft chip that bounced off Iker Casillas’s far post. Even from the most improbable angle, Messi had sought to pick out the top corner. The Guardiola template was self-evident: for his charges to pour through Real’s back line at every opportunity, ruffling the composure of Pepe and a fragile-looking Ricardo Carvalho. It worked exquisitely, even if Barcelona needed a stroke of fortune to harvest their reward. Iniesta, setting up to shoot, watched his shot take a deflection off Marcelo but straight into the path of thankful sidekick Xavi, who lofted the ball beyond Casillas with aplomb. Real found themselves restricted to sudden counter-punches, as when Angel Di Maria forced Valdes into a fingertips save with a lethal drive from distance. But Messi and company merely redoubled their delicate manoeuvres, contriving a 25-pass move to set up their next elegant finish. This time, it was David Villa’s turn to surge to the byline, before cutting his cross back towards an onrushing Pedro for the simplest tap-in. Mourinho, who had been strutting provocatively along the touchline, stood motionless in incredulity. The Nou Camp seethed with triumphalism. Mesut Ozil had already had a bottle thrown in his direction as he took a corner, and Barcelona’s remorseless advance was the cue for Real to lose their discipline. Ronaldo, nicknamed ‘CR7’ by the slavish Spanish media as if he was a beloved car, looked frustrated as he struggled to achieve his normally adhesive touch. His travails told late in the first half, when, having impatiently hustled to take a throw-in, he shoved a blameless Guardiola in the chest. Amid much Catalan crowing, his best players were suffering, too. Pepe and Carvalho, their resistance ripped asunder repeatedly, were reduced to making cynical blocks on a rampant Messi, both earning bookings for their troubles. Villa, by contrast, was just beginning to find his range after half-time, latching on to an incisive ball from Messi to steer a silky shot out of Casillas’s reach. What followed merely embarrassed Real, as Villa secured his second and his side’s fourth, profiting from Messi’s assist to slide the strike between the legs of the despairing Casillas.
