January 26, 200917 yr I'm talking about Lil' Wayne and why he probably was nominated. Coldplay's sales were phenomenal but they did not sell over a million copies in a week. Sales for CDs have not really been that good, so when a CD sales that many then the Grammys are going to take notice. Heck, I'm not familiar with the rapper but I even noticed his sales. That is impressive considering the economy. Old school rap was about the issues facing the African-American community. Today's rap is not about that. With the excpetion of Outkast, 99.9999% of rap sucks balls. In the big categories like Album of the Year, voters from all the music categories get to vote and I can not imagine a voter from country music voting for him and that is why I don't think he'll get it. Excellent point! I think a good majority of the country vote will go towards Coldplay. I think they'll dig Strawberry Swing :)

VLV is a great pop album, but it does not compare to anything in Radiohead's back catalogue, let alone the beauty of In Rainbows. The comparisons are unfair though, Radiohead are one of the most accomplished bands of all time - Coldplay are a band which makes fans off simple melodies and a weak falsetto.

Even if I were to agree with you...I must say I disagree about the weak falsetto part. But then again, I do disagree, I think Coldplay deserve to win. But as Chris Martin says about them being bias about Will being the best drummer in the world, is probably how I feel about Coldplay winning. I just really want them to win because they are my fave band as of the moment!

You're not comparing VLV to any of Radiohead's back catalogue. You can only compare the overall quality of VLV and In Rainbows. It doesn't matter what either one of the bands did previously because that is not what they are being judged on. They're being judged on those persepctive CDs and that's it. VLV may be a "great Pop" CD but the Grammy voters are going to vote on the overall quality of that CD when compared to the pop genre/CDs and the other nominated CDs. The Grammys are not going to look at who's the most accomplished band and who's more musicially incline (for the idiots who think that way), though at times they have done that, but that is what got them into trouble. They are looking for the overall quality whether we agree with it or not. Personally, I want VLV to win but I would not be surprised to see an upset in this category. I would not be surprised to see the Robert Plant/Allison Krauss CD win Best Album. You have a country singer who is very well liked by the Grammy voters and a Rock icon performing together. That combination appeals to two types of voters...the rockers and the country folk.

January 27, 200917 yr ^^^ You brought up a really good point and that is the different sounds that Coldplay used on VLV, and that is something that could benefit them. The fact that Coldplay was different, not what many may say was their ususal self or sound, could sawy voters to vote for them because of that change. For many voters, the progress is respected more than the same old sound, style, lyrics, and so forth. Of course, this is not always the case but it is something that is respected by the industry.

January 27, 200917 yr i lolled so hard with all the fanboys & girls in this thread. Coldplay have achieved a lot in a few years, but what i read from some people here is complete b*llsh*t. VLV so original? Lol no, why? because there are some bells en multiple backing vocals doens't mean it's so utterly original. It's just the same old repeat of a good cathchy pop tune & some decent lyrics. I agree, coldplay have the ability to make some very good pop tunes with better lyrics than the rest of crap you hear on omgwtfbbq MTV en radiostations, but comparing them and saying they're better and more innovating then Radiohead is just playing dumb. What Radiohead did is unbelievable. Without any doubt one of most innovating bands since Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd etc.. Hearing OK Computer (1997) makes records from today still sound so fucking broing & unorignal. Then Kid A, whatever people say VLV is advanced and innovating, listin to Kid A & Amnesiac... & prepare to sh*t your pants... And then the lyrics... Thom yorke's lyrics just go into your spirit & to the back of your spine. The music is so much more subtle en emotional... Now you can start attacking me ;-)
