I know there are many huge U-2 fans out there, so please don't be offended by this comment. It is simply my opinion...

 

 

I saw U-2 was on SNL last night. I watched their first song, "Three Questions." When the second song came on, I had turned down the volume for the commercial, and I didn't even turn it back up. I've enjoyed hearing some of their music because it's very high energy and Bono has an excellent voice, yes even better than Chris Martin's in my opinion. What Bono and U-2 lack is Chris' and Coldplay's sensitivity and artistic soul. Chris often brings tears to my eyes, Bono does not. QUOTE]

 

Bono is a down to earth person too. He is an activist, co-founder of RED. He is always doing something to help others. I admire artists that become rich and famous and decided to use that money and power to help others. Or help a good cause.

Bono is one of those persons I admire not only for his music, but for his hearth. He could be in his own little world, using drugs and having fun like most of the rock stars.

 

It is true he is not as energetic as Chris in his performances, but I think he is very sensitive and he worries about humanity. Pick an event to help Africa or people in need and most likely Bono and U2 will be involve in it somehow.

You should pay attention to their last album song's lyrics. Most of the songs have amazing lyrics. I'll go crazy tonight, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender, Cedars of Lebanon, well... all of them. Nowadays, there are very few bands like them.

Indeed, I guess Coldplay is more sensitive in their music. U2's music style has changed some since the 1990's, but their music was very soft and tender during 1980's, just take a listen to One Tree Hill from them.

Reggie, I heard a radion station talking about the F-Bomb that the new girl dropped, and the D.J was saying he was seeing U2 in 12 day's and he thought they sucked in those 3 songs, and that he thought this last album was crap, and he was afraid this could be the end coming for them, and the other DJ said, well if it's their end coming, they need to take GreenDay with them, cause their new album sucked as well. I just think the sound on SNL has always been crap, and doesn't do any band justice.:\

Excellent point. When I saw Coldplay on SNL a couple weeks before the 2008 election, I was surprised at how subdued and compromised Chris' performance was. After having seen him perform live in concert, he seemed to be too quiet on SNL, and even his dance movements seemed restrained, as if he were afraid of knocking something over if he moved too much. He also seemed uncharacteristically self-conscious. In contrast, in concert, he is truly like a "lord of his dominion," or a "king in his castle" completely at home in his element, the live venue. SNL or any other TV show, provides a terrible sample of a great concert band's music, with the exception of a performance on a show like the Grammy Awards, which is before an audience of thousands.

 

I've heard opinions that U-2 has been on the decline for years. But these views are from "U-2 haters" just as there are similar jaded opinions about Coldpaly from "Coldplay haters," who have no credibility. They are jealous and don't want to admit the band's greatness. Any band that can still sell out 55,000-capacity stadiums is unquestionably great and beyond criticism. This applies to Coldplay and U-2. I do like U-2's older music. Although I'm not very familiar with it, I loved the U-2 songs that were played right before the Coldplay concert. I also liked the few Jay-Zee songs they played, including the one to which the "Dancing Roadie" performed! U-2 has some beautiful, high energy music, apart from the excellent moral virtues of Bono and the band. As for energy levels, of course Chris will outperform Bono, being some 20 years younger! He turned 32 on 3/2/09. I think Bono does very well considering how long he's been doing this. He must be in his 50s.

I recorded SNL, but haven't watched it yet. My son and husband both think Megan Fox is hot, lol...But fall tv is back, so I guess it's time to cancel Blockbuster.com. Amazing Race, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and we are loving Glee. We were really into Dancing with the Stars last season and even went to a taping of one of the shows, but no one this season really excites me...

I think the audience is too far away from the stage on SNL - Chris loves interacting with the crowd and feeds off of the excitement of them. But on SNL, the crowd was so far back and elevated that he couldn't connect like he ususally does. Plus the stage is very small and he needs more room to run around. The few times he came to the very front of the stage, it's like there was a "unofficial barrier" preventing him from moving too much and getting too close to the crowd. And the crowd didn't look like they were up and dancing and just reacting the way a "normal" concert crowd would, way more subdued - but maybe they weren't allowed to stand up and dance.

 

I'm going to date myself here, but the first time I saw U2 was in 1982, when they were the Opening Band for J Geils at the Los Angeles Sports Arena... LOL Chris was still in nursery school back then. :lol:

Both bands have high moral virtues and a high level of energy. But Chris could get into Guinness BOOK of RECORDS for his high energy level. Travis' singer (I don't recall his name) once said that Chris Martin could power an entire town with his high level of energy. :D

 

FYIBono is from 10 May, 1960, so he turns 50 next year! Chris turns 33 on 2 March 2010 meaning that Bono is 17 years older than Chris. I sometimes think of Bono as Chris' mentor in terms of humanitarian involvement. And a better mentor cannot be found IMO. And I think that Chris is a good "pupil" / listener. :)

Somehow, I was able to view all of Coldplay's performances on the recent (within the past couple months) repeat showing of an episode that originally aired just 10 days before the 2008 election. Coldplay played 3 full songs, and even played a 4th, Lovers In Japan during the closing credits. Coldplay was on fire! Even the last song was available on the web site in the "Backstage" link on the SNL site. I've not explored there lately, but you will probably find what you're looking for if you do, and search using Google.

I didn't know that about Nicollette being Telly's step-daughter, very interesting.. I used to work at a place called Jai Li and telly Savalas used to come in and bet on the games when he was in town, here in orlando, and he really did walk around with a lolipop all the time:D Your hubby have a crush on her in school?:)

I am a huge LOST fan, too. We go to Hawaii every year, and have been to the plane crash beach, and seen parts of the sets and props. Last time, we went to Hurley's golf course - remember a few seasons ago, when Hurley found the golf clubs? It's a place called Kualoa Ranch - many other tv shows and movies have filmed there.

 

For about 3 years, my husband had to fly to Hawaii almost monthly, and on his last flight back, a few months ago, Evangeline Lily was seated a couple of rows ahead of him. He said she boarded late, sat down, threw a blanket over her head and slept the whole 5.5 hour flight.

 

I can't wait for the new season, but since they don't do reruns, it seems like it's been ages since last season - I may have to rent a few seasons from Blockbuster...and I miss Charlie - I loved him. But that creeper Ben? shudder Michael Emerson plays him to perfection, I think. And yes, Sawyer is hot. So many unanswered questions and I hope they do a good job of bringing it all together for the last season.
