I love Hawaii. My husband was born in Honolulu, but his family moved to CA when he was 11. it's my favorite place for a vacation - and I feel like I'm "home" when I'm there. Last summer, we bought a timeshare on Oahu, so we'll be spending Christmas there for the next, oh, 50 years or so? lol

Ziggy, you know, I've never seen a CSI or Law and Order. I like Survivor, but forgot it was on so I hadn't set the dvr until about halfway through last week's episode. Do any of you ever go to http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com? Those people are as fanatical about their tv shows as we are about Coldplay!

 

The worst one I watch is Hell's Kitchen, lol. Gordon Ramsey cracks me up (and his restaurant in NYC at The London House is where I had my most expensive martini ever - $21 for a freaking martini!) I'd love to eat at one of their dinner services sometime, I should look into it more.

 

We live about 60 miles south of Los Angeles, and last year, for the first time in many years, went to see some tv tapings - we saw Dancing with the Stars and got to see one of the early-in-the-season American Idol shows. The tapings kind of take all day, because they're first come, first served, so you need to get there really early and just wait. But they're kind of fun to go to.

On the subject of these TV shows that you all have mentioned lately, you lose me.

 

I've never been able to watch a whole Heroes episode. My interest wanes after a few minutes. :dozey: About a year or more ago, I watched the 2-hour special of Lost, recapping the whole season, and I came away from it, glad that I had not had to watch every one of those shows to end up where they did. :rolleyes: About all I got out of it was that the Island was big enough to have its own natural beauty and ecosystem, including fresh water, to support life. Of course, it is filmed in Hawaii, which explains its natural beauty. That is where my interest ends. As for the storylines, I thought it was very contrived and a ridiculous waste of time. But, I know how engaging evening soap operas can be once one gets involved with the characters, having gotten involved in a couple myself in my recent past. For me, the mainline TV shows contain too much pain and suffering. I have enough of that to deal with in my own life. :(

 

My taste in TV programs is where I have to part company with you ladies. Chris Martin and Coldplay completely enthrall me because I find them uplifting, but most of the TV shows nowadays seem to just reflect the social ills of our times. I don't need to be reminded of those. Desperate Housewives is a good example of that. I watched maybe one or two of those before I started to feel very disturbed by some of the storylines. Sorry, but when a mid-life woman starts lusting after the teenager who mows her lawn, I have to turn the channel! :o Simply too disturbing. Maybe I'm showing my own ignorance of the show, but that is what I got out of the 2 shows I watched!

 

Without meaning to offend those who are fans of these shows, I think it reflects a sad state of our culture that these shows are as popular as they are.

 

The real-life story of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's love and the two little angels that resulted from their union is one that inspires me to believe in true love. Now that would make a good soap opera storyline I'd gladly subscribe to. Chris often reminds me of a Prince and Gwyneth of course is a Princess.

I confess my addiction to the boob-tube, and I really am getting tired of the cop shows. I do occasionally applaud their tackling current and controversial issues like Gaunatnamo (as on Law & Order season opener).

 

The most exciting thing I've seen this season so far was on Jeopardy during the season's first week, when a thrid place contestant placed a bet in Final Jeopardy. His bet had no strategic meaning within the game, but spoke volumes about him. The bet, was, of course,

Alex Trebec asked him the signifcance of it but he wasn't given time to reply.

 

I love that we Coldplayers have this (un)secret "code" by which we can identify each other, AND that we choose to do so when opportunity arises. (Of coure, he could have just been a Douglas Adams fan, I suppose.)

 

I should cut down on my TV time, but the long Ottawa Valley winter is a about to set in and I doubt I'll make that change any time soon. Like work and household chores, TV cuts too much into my Coldplaying time LOL.

Reggie, I love that version of Shiver :) You always manage to find the best videos, too. I get really impatient searching youtube and filtering through the crap videos looking for the good ones. So I'm really glad we have you to do that for me :nice:

I must admit that I do not watch much TV - mostly the news, some documentaries, the weather and quiz programmes such as "Who wants to be a millionaire?"

 

When I was younger, I used to watch Dallas and Dynasty. But I am not following any TV series for the time being.

 

I prefer to spend some time here every day on Coldplaying.com where I have met many very nice coldplayers. I also look at Coldplay.com for CP news and the Oracle - questions to / answers from the Oracle. I also look at U2.com for U2 news and small fan reviews of the U2 concerts. When being at the computer, I'm listening to VH1, Denmark which plays all my favourites - Coldplay (at least 4 times per day) and U2, Robbie Williams and Madonna (several times each day) and also Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey plus occasionally ABBA & Beatles.

I fully agree with the first sentence and can follow you in the second with the difference that Chris reminds me of a KING (cf. the alternative Viva la Vida video and my avatar based on that video) and Gwyneth is of course his queen, and their angelic children are a prince and a princess. :)

So true, Dianne. Yesterday, I was joking with my friend when we went to dinner that it was so cold. Well, it was 60 here in San Francisco, and windy, which for us is extreme! I jokingly commented to him about how spoiled we become, living in California! This mediterranean climate would be considered a break for most people living in other parts of the world.

Canadian winters aren't all that bad - just looooonnnnggg! I prefer our winter over the intense heat and humidity of the south. And I do love having 4 distinct seasons.

Reggie, I do have to admit I am a TV junkie!!! I love Leave it to beaver, Andy Griffith, all the oldies and even still watch Steve Irwin re-runs, I love Coldplay, but I couldn't revolve myself around the band and be satisfied, now I don't sit in front of the TV all day, I do work and have Teens, and a hubby and 2 weenie pups, but my idea of unwinding is laying under my blankey at night watching my shows:) I do understand what your saying about TV and how silly and disturbing some things get, and I too am waiting for the Gwyneth/Chris story to be told, but until then I just have "Lost" :D

LOST is brilliantly written. The allegory and research in the show is nothing less than genious, I think. There are many websites that delve into the mysteries and connections, and when I've had the time to read them, blow me away with the insight into the show. But it is not a show that you can join late, so to speak, and understand the meaning of the show and symbolism. There is so much I have missed and I've seen every show! I usually watch the show, then go to TWOP, read the board, then rewatch the show.

 

Ok now I'm watching Andrew Zimmerman on the travel channel and he is in Bolivia eating lamb kidney stew and chunky bull penis soup. Sorry I think I have to pass on that one. And he says it's good!

Ever since Friday, it's been perfect here. Last week was miserable, a whole week of temps over 100. Right now, at 4:30, it's 72 and overcast. The rest of the week, will be high 70s low 80s, and down to the 50s at night! And we're almost through fire season, whew.

I have to admit that I'm kind of a Desparate Housewives junkie. :) I admit that it's pretty shallow, but I guess it's one of my guilty pleasures!

 

I, too, enjoy the whole Chris / Gwyneth story. I hate that the tabloids periodically run articles about them saying that they are breaking up. They seem pretty happy to me. A friend of mine recently saw a Gwyneth interview. My friend said she looked really happy. I think I may have seen her at the concert in Washington. Just before Coldplay came on, I saw a tall, blond woman being escorted off the stage. That's the closest I've ever gotten to her! Who knows, it might not have been her, but it's kind of fun to think it might have been!
