[Article]The Brits: Why They Can't Be Trusted With Music

Featured Replies

Sorry, but if any article says that U2 are British, it should be discounted as wrong.

U2 are Irish, not British.

Fail ...

Very true. The Backward Boys :D hadn't heard that one before

So many good British and European bands are also not recognized enough in the US and yet crap like Lady Gaga are all over the place.

People like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears are only popular because a lot of people like the idea of a bisexual stripper. It's just what this century has come to.

................................ Spamela Anderson.................................

Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Bryan Adams, Hedley :D

Coldplay loves us Canadians, but of course they love those Brits more :laugh3:

Sall good :p

Who??
You don't want to know. :shame:

And don't forget the Nickleback. Or what many consider to be the greatest Canadians, Bachman Turner Overdrive and it's predecessor The Guess Who

And then there's Rush... *scratches head*

And then there's Joni Mitchell...

And Hey Rosetta! :nice: And Final Fantasy. And Caribou.

Or what many consider to be the greatest Canadians, Bachman Turner Overdrive

Well you ain't seen nothin' yet!:D

Yup - N'Stink, The Backward Boys, New Kids On The Chopping Block, Miley's dad............................

It's *N SUCK.

Well really, I have a couple of thoughts. Besides this guy is a pretentious ______ . (Fill in blank with appropriate unrepeatable derogatory swear word.)

1. As all the examples we're giving in this thread illustrate, you can't judge a music scene by the pop charts. The real scene where all the art and great music is happening, and which all the people who say "the ____ scene is so awesome!" are referring to often doesn't make it to the top of the charts. It just lasts longer afterward.

2. I say that sort of stuff about the British scene being the greatest on the planet all the time. I'm Canadian and therefore overexposed to American (and Canadian for that matter) crap. Squared. It's hard to notice anything good coming out of America under the drone of all the lady Gagas and PCDs. British music sounds different and cool to me. But then I don't have to put up with Girls Aloud either. They just don't exist here.

The guy who wrote this is a Brit living in America. If I was born British, I would probably think America was pretty cool. I would probably want to live there kind of like I want to live in Britain now. That's the sort of person I am. Grass is always greener. It's not hard to imagine that it was similar for him. So of course he is going to be biased. It's all what he left behind.

There's a word for that: Ethnocentrism.

"The ethnocentric person may also adopt a new culture, repudiating their birth culture, considering that the adopted culture is somehow superior to the birth culture."

But yeah, the guy is still a jerk.

They also created Pixies, unarguably one of the greatest bands of the late 80s/90s and completely failed to recognise them...the Brits and Europe made them huge...

(going to see them twice next week btw Brixton Academy woohoo )

Wow, Have fun!! (and tell how it was please!)

I love the Pixies!!!

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIkWJZf33UY]YouTube - Pixies Hey[/ame] :heart:

I would start listing Australian bands but you probably haven't heard of any of them.

What are some Aussie bands that the americans, brits and canadians have heard of?

For the record I love brit bands. They make the best music in my books. There are some good bands to come out of america. You cant generalise everything or you miss out on the best stuff. Here in Australia though a lot of our music on the charts is basically just american and australian though. Hardly anything british.

Guys I never said America sucked. Just Canada has some good singers to.

Great music comes from everywhere, but most of my fav music artists are European, not just British :D

I love music from everywhere, including here my home

It wasn't always like that though. We used to get alot of British music. But I can't remember when it changed.

Australian bands? Well, I know INXS (though they were much better with Michael than they were with that other dude) Midnight Oil, AC/DC (yeah!!!), Little River Band, Air Supply (why did you give us them?), Men at Work (now unemployed), and that is all I can think of. I am familiar with them because of my older sister and mother who played their music. :embarassed:

#1 Song on American iTunes as of October 3rd, 2009:

"Party In The U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus.

Yeah, the Brits are the ones with fucked-up taste.

What is it about journalists that make them such twisted souls?

Maybe it's because they failed at every creative alternative in life, and in trying to make themselves feel better, they knock the successful creative ones.

Hahhaha.

How is this considered 'journalism'? It seems more like a bitchy LiveJournal entry.

U2 are British???

Bob the Builder has a lot of talent compared to Shitney Spears.

Well yeah, because he can actually build, while Bratney can't sing.

OMG! YES! I read through this thread just to see if anybody pointed this out! MAJOR FAIL!
