That's rather interesting, lol. I like the quote, by the way. :) It reassures me Chris believes in God.

I LOVE a message and Swallowed in the sea. Til' kingdom come is really sweet, too. One of my favorite lines is "I hear you laugh, I heard you sing, I wouldn't change a single thing." can't explain what it is about that line, but I think it's beautiful.

a message is just so...well of course you guys know :P anyways love this song !

and the other day i was at work and it came up on the sound system so i had a great time working while hearing it! just beautiful!

of course he does! how else could he be so passionate?!

when is this god quote from? Is it old or recent? ive never heard of it?

EDIT just found it

"I went through a weird patch, starting when I was about sixteen to twenty-two, of getting God and religion and superstition and judgment all confused. I think a lot of our music comes out of that. I definitely believe in God. How can you look at anything and not be overwhelmed by the miraclelousness of it? Everything from the carpet to your nose to my balls is amazing. In fact, my balls are a particular miracle."

Martin could no longer wrap his head around the idea of hell, particularly when it was linked to sexual morality--though that was hardly the only reason he wasn't getting laid.

"I didn't know what I was doing. I wish somebody whould have come to me when I was fourteen and explained how to give an orgasm. And it's very strange being the world's sexiest vegetarian because eight years ago, if I'd invite someone over to my place for a tofu burger, they wouldn't be interested."

He started out going to church when he was young and believing in a Christian God, the article says, though he also poins out, according to the article, that it's not the same God as "those crazy fundamentalists like George W. Bush." He said of singing in church: "Everybody singing together is the best feeling in the world."

Im not sure what to make of this, he is sceptical of hell and sort of sounds like a cultural christian with a personal god?

yeh, i sing this song to myself, and dedicate it to women/Woman :)

^You're an arrogant fan.

THE WHOLE ALBUM HAS A SPACE VIBE NOT THE SONG ITSELF. OR WHAT'S BETTER FOR YOU? MOST OF THE SONGS?

No wonder why I never come to this section.

BAI.

Fucking lol'd.

Seriously Alexa, stop making a fool out of yourself by contradicting other people's opinions and grow up.

In the words of Andy Bernard: "That was an overreaction."

  • 5 months later...

It made me cry..So i love it so unbelievable much. It made me feel better.

This is the best live version I've ever heard...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KGfCUL-y_o]YouTube - Coldplay - HOPE FOR HAITI - A Message.mp4[/ame]

I've been listening to many versions of Coldplay's song, and yet again, I find myself in awe of how beautiful it is, both lyrically and musically.

"You're the target that I'm aiming at, and I'm nothing on my own." Those lyrics are so incredibly powerful to me. Many will disagree and many will persecute, but I am 100% certain this song is towards God.

I notice a lot of hate towards this song. Why?

I agree with every thing you just said. That amazing song was inspired from a hymn so you may just be right. I have always regarded a message as one of my favorites.

A message is amazing n I absolutely love X&Y album! Im getting my cousin into coldplay n she is obsessed with a message right now, its actually her ringtone right now :D

It's absolutely amazing, beautiful and undescribable. You just have to hear a songs like this .

EDIT: Well, such a shame that I didn't like "A Message" before the Haiti disaster. But well I watched it again now and it's so o.O And Will's/Chris' singing together is fucking outstanding.

a message is a very good piece! one of the songs i save from x&y..

I agree that the Haiti version is so beautiful,it makes me cry..

I also love X&Y album...

OMG, A Message is the eighth wonder of the world!!! SIMPLY PERFECT AND MAGNIFICENT!

As X&Y is the best album of the whole world! The best Coldplay album, my loveee!

hey mich look what I found :D :P

i definitely think that x&y is the worst coldplay album.. :) it's 10^23 lightyears far from parachutes and arobtth..

"Worst" doesn't say much. It's Coldplay, how bad can it possibly be? :) For me the order goes (from least favorite to most favorite) X&Y, Parachutes, with AROBTTH and VLV around equal. By no means do I dislike X&Y though. It's a brilliant standalone album, it just doesn't compare to the others.

i like twisted logic it was good to hear something with a bit of an ecological frame of mind

...something i hadnt interpreted out of one of their songs since Dont Panic

...although I do think they could have done without Low and What If

Low just needed more wine glass solo. :P What If's chorus is pretty awesome, in my opinion...

I loved X&Y. For reference, AROBTTH, X&Y, Viva/Prospekt's, Parachutes...but I love all of them as equally as that ranking would allow. I definitely catch the space vibe in most of the songs. Most evident I'd say in Talk with the synthesizers (I LOVE the synthesizer part in the middle).

A Message is a great song...too obscure. :( But absolutely brilliant. The God interpretation is valid, I think. It's not the *only* interpretation. But considering the part about "standing on a platform"...at first I thought of the platform at a train station, but now I'm thinking of like a crucifix or a gallows. Who knows.

My favourite part is the guitar solo after the 2nd chorus, and how the solo plays over the final chorus.

.....and....I think Low is a great song. As is What If. They both sound really good live, by the way. Low is just..fast-paced and great as a headbanger - the "don't you wanna see it come soon" part brings chills. What If, I think, has great lyrics that really convey that sense of uncertainty and overanalysis endemic to love and other stuff in life. @Hartroc - what do you mean by wine glass solo? Did I miss something. :( And yeah, the chorus of What If is kickass. The riff Jonny plays there is really cool.

A Message is defiantly a beautiful song, one of my favorites. The Hope For Haiti version was amazing. I've got nothing against X&Y, love all the songs. Swallowed In The Sea is probably my favorite for that album, especially hearing it live, took my breath away.
