Major Minus for those who haven't heard. I prefer the live version i think :/

Thanks, I hadn't heard it yet.

1. So its an E.P.? should we expect more than 2 songs then?

Yeah, not a huge fan of the voice distortion, though it is kind of cool to hear them playing with a new stock of effects. The effects during the guitar harmonics are great, and though this will sound like a bad thing for most, I like that it has an 80s u2 vibe up to and around the solo. I could see myself enjoying an album of similar stuff.

I like the song more than ETIAW... then again I'd like almost anything more than that.

But I really hate that distorted vocals. Also I really don't like the melody of the verses and the lyrics... I find it to be a bit annoying to be honest. I do like the chorus bit somewhat. But to me this song has U2 written all over it. Also his vocals during the bridge is extremely annoying how high up he gets.

The song is mediocre. Not a huge fan of it, but it's not horrible.

I'm sorry I liked this song before.

Sorry but anyone who thinks Coldplay are losing it needs to listen to X&Y because if you're claiming they're showing signs of going downhill then I'm gonna have to accuse you of never having listened to that album.

a tad confused. are you saying this because you think X&Y sucks, or because you think X&Y is really awesome?

I think he's saying "X&Y" sucks.

Pretty much. I don't really think it "sucks" but it's certainly guilty of everything people are hating on the new stuff for, if not to a bigger degree.

the best is yet to come. literally.

They've been past their prime for over nearly 10 years

OK. After 2 1/2 hours of waiting for my dial-up to load it, I've heard the song for the first time.

It's better that ETIAW. I'll give it that much. Like Chris, I also like the guitars; they sound kinda neat. However, like a lot of others have been saying, I find the vocal effects to be way off. I find them annoying. There's a particular part in there (like, 1:57-2:06) that's just godawful.

Parachutes was Coldplay in their prime

Parachutes was basic and primitive stuff. Nothing compared to A Rush Of Blood To The Head or VLVODAAHF.

After a couple more listens, I don't find the effects nearly as annoying, but it's still a hit and miss, and that part at 1:57 still sucks. That part would have been a lot better if Chris had just kept his mouth shut. :|

but "basic" is what worked best for the band. I wouldn't even call it primative. Because it was their stripped down and basic arrangement that worked best w/ the band IMO. I still think AROBTTH was their best work and they'll never top that, but Parachutes comes in close behind.

The song that I think comes closest to their old sound is Prospekts March... I think it's a great track and which they had more recent songs like that

Don't Panic, Spies, Shiver, Yellow and Trouble are all among their finest tracks, which is half of the album. That's a great feat.

Their other albums are more accomplished sonically, but Parachutes had the melodies, the atmosphere, the honestness and the humanity which their other albums lacked. Viva la Vida and Rush of Blood are both great albums though, yes.

I do feel Coldplay are well in their comfort zone when stripped down/acoustic and they are so fantastic at that and it allows Chris Martin's vocals to really shine through. They found the perfect balance, for me, on AROBTTH between keeping it fairly basic but also "epic" sounding at the same time if you know what I mean. The problem is I don't want them to produce an album like those first two anytime soon. I definitely want them to produce an album like that again but not currently.

I do like the effect they've put on Chris Martin's voice on this new track rather than a lazy overdub but they can't really afford for his vocals to get drowned out which has happened a bit too much lately. I think the new songs are very strong. It's just the production which I'm still undecided on. I can't really pass judgement until I've heard all of LP5.

The new song is okay. Liked the guitars, vocals were fine, but overall the song is nothing to get very excited at. It's just another forgettable song.

I still think AROBTTH was their best work and they'll never top that
