New Coldplay eh?

X&Y certainly isn't my favorite album of theirs or anything, but I connect more with the lyrics than I do with most of the ones from the Viva era, or this era so far. I feel like they still come from a personal place, or at least are put more literally. I feel like a lot of the Viva/LP5 lyrics are more oblique or are too metaphoric for me to really connect to them in the same way I did when Chris kind of just said how things were in a plain way. He seems to be writing less about himself, which a lot of musicians do, but I prefer the way he wrote when it seemed like he was talking plainly about things that he had actually been through.

This.

It's like he's trying to be a story teller.

I love Palladia so I most likely will, though I may record it if I have other plans. And as long as they keep playing ETIAW last, I can turn it off then. :P
Yeah I'm definitely recording it on Palladia (that's seriously my favorite channel, it's nice to see a music channel that only does music you know, plus the upcoming RH FTB performance will air there).

I'm hoping for Amsterdam at Glasto, I'd love to have that stored on the DVR to watch anytime...

edit: I'll say this elsewhere

The saddest thing about watching them do festivals now. Is that they play a bunch of shit.

Then they go back to Trouble or something and everyone sings along and it still sounds freaking great.

The transitions between the new and old stuff just make you sad.

I guess it's good though. Cause I'd still see them live just for the old stuff.

yeah okay now you're gonna make me whore my video now

that's what I call music... it's great to hear them play that again

They played Trouble instead of The Hardest Part when I saw them two years ago :awesome:

I don't like Yellow and X&Y is my second favourite album from them. So sue me.

Major Minus in the studio is OK. Not great. Better than ETIAW but that's not saying a lot.

Finally listened to Major Minus. It's okay I guess? Doesn't do much for me.

edit: I rather like this! That I just listened to now. It's pretty fun. Lyrics are probs not good at all but I'm not listening to those so

tbh I mostly just like the very beginning :\ but it's genuinely hypnotizing. I really like it. But then CM sings and it's like "...eh..." but still slightly good.

a week ago

it's really a shame to see them play the new songs and then a song like Trouble again. How people can like the new songs more or think they are better written is beyond me.

I was more disappointed in the studio version of Major Minus than I was in ETIAW. I feel like I could be disowned by the more down-to-earth half of the Coldplay fandom for putting it that way, but whatever. I just feel like the vocal distortion takes away from the song--it doesn't seem to fit or add anything in a constructive way. It sounds more like something they threw in because they were bored and haven't done a lot with filters and voice effects before. I love the live version, but I feel like even if I'd never heard them play it live before and hadn't heard what it sounded like with unencumbered vocals, I still would have winced and made a horrible face when hearing the voice filter for the first time on the studio version. I just don't see the point, and I think it detracts from the otherwise pretty great song.

(Side Note: OH MY GOD, KATIE, YOUR AVATAR :dead:)

I don't really agree, but I see where you are coming from for sure.

(Side Note: I LOVE YOURS TOO, WE HAVE GOOD TASTE ;))

The vocals never got me on the live version only the guitar which was what made that live version so good. I actually like the studio version better.

This is almost exactly how I feel about it.

So how many of you are going to watch the Glasto performance on VH1 or Palladia on Saturday?

I am for sure.

At least they keep playing Politik.

And GPASUYF

When you say new do you just mean the most recent? Or from like, VLVADAAHF and beyond?

And with a song like Trouble, I'd have to say, lyrically not much beats it as far as Coldplay songs go. However, can you really consider a song like Everything's Not Lost or Yellow to be well-written? Coldplay has never been lyrically spectacular so I don't think I'll ever quite understand where people are coming from on this front. With the exception of songs like What If and ETIAW, most Coldplay songs have respectable though never wildly astounding lyrics; it isn't just the newer songs.

Trouble is one of my all time faves..it's so simple and beautiful, and part of me wishes they would write something along the lines of Trouble..But then again, why mess with perfection? You already have a perfect song (IMO), why make another..?

And for my opinion over MM..I like it.

I think that AROBTTH was the end of their great era. From there they just went downhill. I still enjoy X&Y, but not nearly as much as I used to.

To be honest I say most recent being since VLV. Ever since Violet Hill was released as a first single I've been disappointed in the band. I really dislike the song and hearing that was the beginning of the end to me liking them.

Actually I do consider Everything's Not Lost and Yellow to be well written. Maybe not lyrically fully (though it's not as horrendous as ETIAW), but in terms of arrangement and melody they are truely great songs!

I'll say it once and I'll continue to say it. Coldplay works and sounds best when they have less going on. I mean just listen to a song like Trouble and the VLV and it's almost a joke.

It seems to me the band is trying to hard to make big songs, when I feel if they made simpler and more stripped down songs it'd sound better.

...but that's just my opinion.

VLV wasnt planned to be a single, the record company guys said It wasn´t a single.

It just happened to be that big, thanks to Itunes commercials,etc...

They are trying new things, not trying to make big songs.

Thats my opinion

That's what I was referring to.

That still sounds amazing.

Then there is the shitfest that surrounds it.

I actually like Major Minus a fair bit, the vocal effects are a bit of a, well, minus though because they cause Chris' voice to be drowned out during the chorus.

EDIT - and yeah, that part where they go really high also make them a bit <insertillegibleforhearingpurposeswordhere>.

Don't use the Mark smiley :( It's killing me bro!!

:wink3:

Fixed.
