New Coldplay eh?

Am I the only one who never enjoyed Yellow?

I kind of agree with you. I've never been too fond of the song myself. I like it live but it's been forgettable for me.

I like this version though.

Just listened to the studio version of MM for the first time a few minutes ago. Obviously it's much better than ETIAW, I'd like to pretend that one never happened.

I'm not too keen on the effects with Chris' vocals. That part is much better live, he should have just left his voice the way it is. Actually it would have just been better to have Will sing, he's got the best voice of the four.

I liked it better when I heard it the first time from the festival performance; but I still enjoy listening to it. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, although in general it's nice to hear Jonny coming out a little more now.

Oh and I agree with what Violet said about 1:57-2:06, I guess I didn't really pay much attention to that while watching the live performances.

Yeah, that sounds a whole lot better. I don't really know why though, might be the guitar riffs, or his voice, but I never liked it.

Guitar mostly for me but not keen on the voice either.

the best is yet to come. literally.

the only way this could be true would be if they're releasing bad songs on purpose.

I was expecting something good based on the live version but whatever D:

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I really liked the distortion on Chris's voice in MM. I was never too thrilled with the live version I heard (although it would be kind of cool if they did an acoustic version of it for every live show). But the studio version sounds really good to me. So much better than ETIAW (I guess that isn't saying much but still).

Me too! :awesome:

I mean, it's definitely not a "perfect" song, but I really enjoyed listening to it. . .:wacky:

Certainly not perfect. But quite enjoyable!

I think that people should stop expecting so much from Coldplay, and just try to enjoy the song instead of dissecting it.

Not saying that you can't dissect it, I just mean that the music is more enjoyable when you're not critiquing it

Great, so you're heartless as well as soulless

Just cos I don't like Yellow and I don't think that film is as great? Get a better reason to call me that.

I was more disappointed in the studio version of Major Minus than I was in ETIAW. I feel like I could be disowned by the more down-to-earth half of the Coldplay fandom for putting it that way, but whatever. I just feel like the vocal distortion takes away from the song--it doesn't seem to fit or add anything in a constructive way. It sounds more like something they threw in because they were bored and haven't done a lot with filters and voice effects before. I love the live version, but I feel like even if I'd never heard them play it live before and hadn't heard what it sounded like with unencumbered vocals, I still would have winced and made a horrible face when hearing the voice filter for the first time on the studio version. I just don't see the point, and I think it detracts from the otherwise pretty great song.

(Side Note: OH MY GOD, KATIE, YOUR AVATAR :dead:)

I am sorry. You have a heart and a soul.

X&Y was emotional and still pretty fucking good.

Not Parachutes or AROBTTH. But it was different and still enjoyable to me.

After that is when they went shit.

The vocals never got me on the live version only the guitar which was what made that live version so good. I actually like the studio version better.

:/

I loved X&Y during it's time, I was younger and it seemed appropriate during that time, but that's about it, Coldplay's direction now isn't really fitting the kind of things I enjoy/listen to now, I will listen to the new album though, I could enjoy 1 or 2 songs.

X&Y wasn't rly emotional IMO

So how many of you are going to watch the Glasto performance on VH1 or Palladia on Saturday?

Fix You is the only one I find remotely emotional out of those, it all just sounded forced and cliched to me

I'll be watching Glastonbury live on BBC :) as well as U2's set (which I'm personally more excited for because they've got something planned, we already know what Coldplay will probably perform)

Lol Fix You is also cliched.

I still enjoy it though.

Cause I don't curr.

X&Y certainly isn't my favorite album of theirs or anything, but I connect more with the lyrics than I do with most of the ones from the Viva era, or this era so far. I feel like they still come from a personal place, or at least are put more literally. I feel like a lot of the Viva/LP5 lyrics are more oblique or are too metaphoric for me to really connect to them in the same way I did when Chris kind of just said how things were in a plain way. He seems to be writing less about himself, which a lot of musicians do, but I prefer the way he wrote when it seemed like he was talking plainly about things that he had actually been through.

Oh yeah it's cliched alright, it gets away with it though because it has a good melody and is an overblown anthem

I love Palladia so I most likely will, though I may record it if I have other plans. And as long as they keep playing ETIAW last, I can turn it off then. :P
