Listen guys, Brian Eno ruined Coldplay and he should burn in hell :blank:

That is what most people "know" about Brian Eno.

They forgot the part where Coldplay has freedom of choice, tho.

Oh, and on a separate not I wish they'd just replace Yellow with Don't Panic or Shiver for a live show one of these days. I know Yellow is a staple, but I don't like staples! I think setlists should be changed often.

And I know it, but at least you'd admit they have talent, amirite?

I've never denied they've had talent. I've always believed they were incredibly talented it's just some of their later work has been overrated to the extreme.

If someone put a gun to my head and I had to choose the best band it would probably have to be Arcade Fire...or Elbow. But certainly not Radiohead. Not after their last album(s). God no. :)

so from just listening to each song once. this is how i see it

Hurts Like Heaven - is this the same as MX?? :S this is probably the best reaction i've had to a coldplay song since i first became a fan back in the X&Y days.

Major Minus - can't stand this. the different parts of the song just don't seem to fit together in a coherent manner

Us Against the World - i'm glad they have written a Parachute-sy song but i will wait till i hear it on the record before i judge

Charlie Brown - very X&Y so not really the sound i enjoy but could be a crowd favourite

Every Teardrop - classic :P

and the radiohead comment i made was a jab at the fact that every second discussion on this part of the forum is about how good or shit radiohead are. also a jab at the elitist attitude of radiohead fans (including myself)

At least you admit it. Overrated? I think their most overrated work has been OKC, and as much as I like it I never quite found it to be as good as people put it. About Elbow, I wouldn't know, I'm not a fan of theirs but it's all a matter of taste. As much as you like the most popular bands in the forum (AF, Elbow, CP, Oasis, U2) it's fairly subjective and a bit biased to say they're the best in the world.

I can't quite even name a best band in the world, cos that's pretty full of bullshit if you ask me, favourite band? SURE MATE, I have many, but I can't just go around the the forum or the world claiming that my favorite bands are the best.

Yeah, Coldplay is popular, I get it, they make catchy tunes, and have a good stage vibe + a good show to offer, and putting aside my feelings towards Chris Martin, I think they've deviated their sound so much, the change from X&Y to Viva was a bit drastic in my opinion and that's why I felt alienated in the first place, no more acoustic-ish great tunes, Jonny wasn't shining and I had doubts about Guy being in the songs at all. With these few songs I feel sure enough to say that they just don't fit in my taste anymore, it's too U2ish for me, and I feel like they're trying to mimic them to some extent, which I find pretty sad.

Maybe, one day, they'll make some music that will make me feel love again, like Politik, but until that day, I'll stick to listening to the hideous TKOL and the rat **** that Thom Yorke is :nice: they haven't disappointed me.

That's fine. Just you've made some people get a bit butthurt for no reason.

I think their most overrated work has been OKC

yay someone else who thinks so

This thread is about Coldplay, not Radiohead dammit.

Radiohead is the gravity of this forum.

That's fine. Just you've made some people get a bit butthurt for no reason.

You always get butthurt when I make an appearance in the CP subforum

DUDE, I DON'T WANNA USE ANOTHER ROLLEYES SMILEY.

one mention of radiohead and look what happens! hahhahaha

gawd i love this place.

Haha, he can't take any criticism of his 4 favorite bands, but ironically he can bash Radiohead in his favourite bands threads so lol, I need to make a balance mate.

don't talk about radiohead :bigcry:

Yeah they are talented but whatever :blank:

we should find a way to forget that song, let's just pretend it doesn't exist D:

Let's take apart that in my opinion and subjectivity things. We know this is bound to subjectivity and that everyone's opinion counts, but there are lots of things that can be done objectively. (Reilly can explain this better lolz). Saying Elbow is the best band in the world, there's a big difference between say my favourite and the best band in the world. I don't like Bob Dylan nor the Beatles, but I recognize they are one of the greatest artists of all time. You may not understand Beethoven but if you deny his paramore importance and legacy you are a big idiot. It's obvious that music appeals to personal tastes, but when you say which is the best band you are referring to the band of most excellence. How can we define excellence? Commercial succes? That's commercial excellence, but it's not linked to musical excellence. Excellent bands make music that pleases the critics and that creates a solid fanbase, in addition to resist the passage of time and leave a legacy. Does Elbow has a really solid fanbase? Solid not big. Do they have general critical acclaim? The Arcade Fire has these characteristics, but it's too early to tell if their reputation and influence will go on through time. Radiohead has a big and solid fanbase, Kid A, OK Computer and In Rainbows have higher critical reputation than all of the current best band contenders. King of Limbs is ranked better than any coldplay album except for AROBTTH. In fact Coldplay's best album (ROBTTH) met the same score on metacritic than Radiohead's second or third to last weakest (KoL). Radiohead influenced lots of artists, beggining with coldplay themselves. If that's not being the most consistent mainstream band then I don't know what is it. If you bring the popularity argument Bieber beats them all.

well this was supposed to be a quote........but too lazy to fix it...oh well waste of post

I've been gone all day but it's good to come here and see there's a bit of relief regarding the other songs, at least to some degree. Watched videos of two of the songs, still have to watch the rest.

I'm officially not as upset and frustrated as I was yesterday. Where is a song blackhole when you need one? ETIAW needs to venture out there. Although I'm still irked that they even thought it was a good idea to begin with, let alone hype it, etc.
