I have to disagree with Chris saying that his lyrics have improved because to me it's the very opposite.

 

Perhaps on the singles off MX, but on VLV there was a clear improvement.

:laugh3: I think something got lost in translation here. What the reporter meant is that Jonny and Will went out drinking with the Arctic Monkey's members the night before a day long series of interviews.! :)

I must admit it made me a little sad to read. Chris always makes reference to the amount of hate their band receives. I wonder if it's a case of no glory in your hometown (or country?) I think that happens with bands a lot no matter where they live. I don't know anybody where I live in the US who doesn't like Coldplay.

 

Also funny that he always defends his upbringing. I think that's another bit that probably doesn't translate outside of the UK.

Is there a hint in there about Coldplay breaking up for a while before LP6? I actually think that would be quite a good idea. They could start totally from scratch on LP6 with new ideas, forget everything they've done before and just write an album as if it was their debut album. Similar to what Radiohead did with In Rainbows I suppose, which turned out to be a fantastic album.

I thought that there were some good lyrics in songs like Violet Hill and Prospekt's March but songs like Lost! and 42, the lyrics are lacking. So far this album doesn't seem to have any lyrics that give me chills.

I'd agree with Guy too - it's time for them to take a break . Maybe a year or so without touring or recording or doing anything. And put a big huge lock on the Bakery's door.

I'd guarantee they'd return to the work fresh and eager with a pile of ideas.

It's obvious that they've become tired in a creative way of non-stop process.
