Mylo Xyloto in Every Song?

Featured Replies

OH HOLY FUCKING CRAP! IT'S EVERYWHERE! IT'S ON POC, IT'S ON MAJOR MINUS!

UFO ITSELF IS AN ACOUSTIC MX!

This is fucking brilliant!

Discreet xylophones are audible throughout the album.

But this is a slight overreaction Rafa.

I wonder what inspired them to base the album on xylophones. Perhaps the baby boom?

I think all members had behbehz around VLV so they grew enough to start playing xylophones and make them do this:

Actually UFO is a sort of MX with lyrics; listen carefully to the guitar !

And you can also play MX and sing the UFO first verse. it fits perfectly

Actually I think it may have influenced the whole album atmosphere. I mean, this album isn't just about a love story in a world in revolution.

There are a lot of happy, or more dynamic, almost dancing songs in this album : HLH, CB, DLIBYH, ETIAW, Paradise....I don't mean they want to please their kids, I just think the fact that they have young kids may have influenced them&their music in some ways...And, honestly, I think UATW or UFO could make great songs to calm down/make a baby sleep  (though I wouldn't fall asleep listening to them, but I find them very peaceful :wacky: )

First one to make a whole album mash-up wins eternal fame... :awesome:

For those who can't hear the little MX melody on Major Minus, listen to the echoed solo after the second chorus. It's there. (It's a different tone so it may be a little hard to hear)

I am loving to analyse this album. Every day I discover a new thing, but since it took me about 2~3 years to understand VLVoDaAHF entirely, I do not hope to get the full meaning of Mylo Xyloto so soon... It's good 'cause it's funny!

it took me about 2~3 years to understand VLVoDaAHF entirely

That's so funny, I was at the concert at Ahoy Rotterdam and when they played Violet Hill some of the lyrics I never understood just fell into their place. After I heard the song so many times! Love it when that happens!

Yeah I got it in MM ! it's not obvious though

So we have the MX theme in at least 6 songs :

Mylo Xyloto

Major Minus

U.F.O.

A Hopeful Transmission

DLIBYH

Up With the Birds ( the "might have to go where they don't know my name").

You can include Hurts Like Heaven and Don't let it break your heart, since they are directly derivative from their respective pre-songs. So we got

Mylo Xyloto

Hurts Like Heaven

Major Minus

U.F.O.

A Hopeful Transmission

Don't Let it Break Your Heart and

Up With the Birds

---

I can see a close connection between Hurts Like Heaven and Princess Of China and Princess Of China and Paradise, but I will find a something that can put them on this list.

Ok let's go:

Paradise: 4:17, the last Whoo oohh oohh fits the MX melody

Princess Of China: 3:03, it's the same melody as above. Yes, Paradise! (Think abou the Whoo oohh oohh while listening to that parto). So, also fit's the MX melody.

We only need ETIAW, Us Against The World and the hardest ones: Up In Flames and MMIX

I think the "Ohhhhh" (i know the sun must set to rise) from Paradise and the "Soooooooooooar" in Charlie Brown are essentially the same thing

this is stupid. do you think coldplay took the time to do all this? :inquisitive:

if they admit to this in an interview, I'll eat my hat

DSOTM is so trippy........ but so goooooooooood:lol:

MMIX is closely linked to ETIAW so I think that counts. Oh, and the same noises in ETIAW (especially near the end) are sometimes in the background of HLH but I'm too lazy to point to specific places jaja.

Jonny's electric guitar line in UIF is the melody of MX, roughly. And the drumbeat of UIF has the exact same bass-snare-buh-bass-snare rhythm as POC, but stripped back by a lot.

UATW has the same slow-ow-ow-ow motif as in UIF. UATW is also in 6/8 time signature (kind of a watlzish feel), which is almost the same as MX. UATW and MX have the same tempo/time signature, essentially.

The "float all over the world" melody in UWTB is very similar to that of UFO's "I don't know which way I'm going."

^ me too. I picked up that it was ufo he was singing when I first heard the BBC2 concert

Here's my perception-

  • Hurts Like Heaven
Choral Progression throughout the whole song is the same 4-line melody, going lower each 4 bars. The chorus itself is a vocal reprise aswell (The "ooh" part)

  • Paradise
The melody that the piano is based around is the same 4-line melody. Choral Progression, like in Hurts Like Heaven, is the same melody throughout the song aswell, directly linking it to Hurts Like Heaven aswell. The Violin melody is a complete reversal, going up rather than down the Staff.

  • Charlie Brown
Bass riff throughout the song is a half-reversal of the melody, as in it goes upwards from the the original line every two lines.
Half-chorus, "All The Boys... All The girls... All the madness in the world..." is a reprise of the same melody, vocal, guitar and bass.

  • Us Against The World
Just like Para and Heaven, The same exact choral progression throughout the song, (except the half-chorus (if we could float away...)) going lower each time. Again, connecting itself with Para, Mylo and Heaven.

  • M.M.I.X.
    Nothing Here.

  • Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
CAN'T FIND ANYTHING! I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING! ENO YOU ARE FUCKING WITH MY MIND RIGHT NOW!

  • Major Minus
The choral progression is the exact same in the verses. (one eye watching you...) The droning before the guitar solo is the same melody.

  • U.F.O
    It's Main guitar riff. Duh.

  • Princess Of China
The melodic riff during the vocal solos (ooh..) is the same melody. Same goes with the lalala

  • Up In Flames
Just Like Heaven, Para, World and Minus, the same choral progression, throughout the song, except the chorus. The Bass and Piano melody is based around the same melody in Mylo. During the chorus, the piano reprises the Mylo melody.

  • A Hopeful Transmission
Only idiots won't Realise this is a complete reprise of Mylo.

  • Don't Let It Break Your Heart
The whole melody is Mylo repeating itself over and over again for 4 minutes with thrashy instrumentals and chris bashing it out. Another reason why this is the best song on the album.

  • Up With The Birds
The whole second act of the song (2:05-2:36), is accompanied by a reprise of the Mylo melody

What have we learned from VLV yesterday and Mylo today? BRIAN ENO IS A GENIUS that's what!

Here's my perception-

  • M.M.I.X.
An extremely stretched out reprise of Mylo.

  • Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
    CAN'T FIND ANYTHING!

  • Major Minus
The choral progression is the exact same in the verses. (one eye watching you...) The droning before the guitar solo is the same melody.

WOW! I only noticed it in AHT. I should listne more carefully. I think it is amazing how they have managed that. All of a sudden, MX has gone from being a powerful, short introduction to the centrepiece of the album!

RazorEye, thanks for putting it so blatantly, I see (hear) it now in some songs! :wideeyed: Awesome! It's quite subtle, but it's there. Now me must find it in Teardrop. :sneaky:
