January 2, 201214 yr I wonder how many sales it had, as the first week of the year is often a low sales week (IIRC Orson got to number 1 a few years ago selling just 21,000 this time of year)
January 2, 201214 yr A well deserved, long overdue second number one! Delighted that after it slipped down the chart last week Paradise has risen to the top and stayed there months after it was released. It took the British public long enough :P Charlie Brown, it's over to you.....
January 3, 201214 yr Topping the chart for the first time on its 10th appearance, Paradise is Coldplay's second number one, following 2008's Viva La Vida. The track - which has moved 14-17-20-13-11-12-7-2-5-1 thus far - sold 108,390 copies last week, raising its overall sales to 528,159, the later tally including 118,547 copies sold when it was not eligible for the chart, having been used as an inducement for fans to pre-order parent album Xylo Myloto. While the album is still a little short of becoming Coldplay's fifth million seller, Paradise is very much on course to become their biggest selling single, with only the aforementioned Viva La Vida (603,652 sales) ahead of it. Had Paradise been eligible for the chart since its release, it would currently be on its 16th chart appearance, and would have shattered the record for most weeks in the Top 40 before reaching number one, a record held by Celine Dion's Think Twice which was on its 13th week in the Top 40 (and its 16th in the Top 75) when it reached number one in 1995. http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=1&storycode=1047970&c=1
January 4, 201214 yr I'm glad. :smug2: Happy New Year Coldplay. Viva La Vida and Paradise are 2 Chris' favorite songs to sing live and they've both been #1. As for that record, it's totally logical. It's a kind of song that goes from meh and wannabe epic to truly epic. It's become my favorite MX song. Now, it's gonna be interesting when they release Charlie Brown next Tuesday while Paradise is still at the top of the chart...
January 4, 201214 yr Great news for the New Year! Awesome way to start 2012! This song certainly is the most catchy of MX just as VLV was for VLV! It is hard to predict what will make a number 1 though. Wasn't VLV a last minute addition to VLV back in 2008?
