The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You

I haven't been here in so long! I was really looking forward to this album, seeing as this was my first release I had to look forward to because I got into the band after The Resistance was released.

I've listened to the full album twice. And I'm just...meh. There was nothing that really grabbed me or compelled me to keep listening. There were a few good tracks, a few terrible ones, and the rest were just...meh.

1. Supremacy - Starts off well. I like the intro with full orchestra, but Matt's voice is so bizarre leading into the chorus. There's something off about it...perhaps because it was over-mixed. I don't know. And then the pace just kind of plods after that first chorus for me and looses steam.

2. Madness - Yuck! Absolutely hate the "mamamamamad, mad, mad" tripe! I'd liken it to the "wa wa waterfall"ing that Coldplay does. Except that this is more blatant. I think if they would've done that effect solely instruments it wouldn't not have been so cringe-worthy. For some reason, when I hear this song I see Matt Bellamy and Kate Hudson dancing a slow jam. I don't know why!

3. Panic Station - I think Violet compared this one to Prince. I first thought of David Bowie! haha! It's very David Bowie-ish to me. It's okay. I kind of dig it. But, again...it just doesn't scream Muse. It's so neo-funky rock-disco.

4. Prelude - Well, it's the lead in to Survival. And it's cheesy...very, very, very cheesy.

5. Survival - Oh boy, the first time I heard this was during the Olympic ceremonies. I hated it then and I hate it now listening to the album version. Some have said this is comparable to Invincible and the like, but I absolutely HATE Invincible with a passion! It's my least favorite Muse song ever....and now it's got a companion song to keep it company.

6. Follow Me - It's around this song that I have started to gather that Matt's voice sounds different. It really does. It's lower in timbre than normal and I'm thinking maybe his age and the years of use are starting to show. It takes me more time than it should to identify it's him. This song is just okay, as well.

7. Animals - Very good and one of the standout tracks on the album. I'm not jumping out of my seat in enthusiasm, but it's by far one of the best tracks.

8. Explorers - Can you free me from listening to this song for nearly 6 minutes?? Muse, why?! Why?! What the hell is that?? Woodblock? And now a tambourine?? And cheesy back-up chorus??! And then something about crops....and free me. Oh, good grief. This is my 2nd least favorite song on this album ahead of Survival.

9. Big Freeze - Another good track. Finally! Yay!

10. Save Me - I really like this one a lot. Put a beat to it and it would sound New Wave. It's a good track.

11. Liquid State - Another good one. For me, the latter half of the album is stronger than the former half of the album. I like that Chris gets to show off his vocals.

12. Unsustainable - I actually kind of liked the dubstep mixed in. I'm a bit intrigued by dubstep, but all of the extra soundbites that turn it into a newsreel are just not for me.

13. Isolated - Again, I get the concept, but it's just not for me. I already have panic attacks about the breakdown on civilization, so I'll just be skipping this and Unsustainable.

All in all, I think it's their worst album. :/ That pains me to say since I've come to love them. I might just have to cherry pick off of iTunes what I want and leave the rest.

Didn't notice the album came out until just now. Gotta love this pitchfork review quote:

"With dramatic flair, he intones "your true emancipation is a fantasy," which... OK. But "the time..." Go on. "...it has come," that "it," perfect. "To destrooooyyyyyy..." Destroy what? Make sure you put your drink down as Bellamy screams "YOUR SUPREMACYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!" because all of a sudden having The 2nd Law only in audio form feels pathetically inadequate-- next time you will place it against footage from Starship Troopers, although the closest visual equivalent to this batshit moment is a dinosaur with a cowboy hat manning a F-15 and blowing evil aliens to bits while scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. That's not even the most ludicrous part-- wait until that bit of spy guitar comes in at the end, bearing no melodic resemblance to what just transpired and inferring Muse believes they've made their James Bond theme. No, really."

I cannot express my excitement over the new tour dates

okay, so I'm going to try to convince my parents (once again) to let me go to one of the shows. Assuming that goes well (which I think it will, my mom secretly loves Muse's live show), could someone be kind enough to give me a bit of a walkthrough on how to do a member presale with Muse? I've never done one before, and I really don't want to mess it up. It would be nice to have decent seats for a concert for once. :|

When it says "Please log into your member profile on Monday for further details on the presale.", do they mean that that's when the presale's starting? Or is the date given next to the location/tour date the presale date?

:dizzy:

Also, I'll probably end up going to the East Rutherford date simply because into/out of NYC is a bit of a hassle. Wish they were going back to the Prudential Center though, it's much nicer than the Izod Center.

No Texas dates. NO TEXAS DATES.

:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Of course, there's the possibility of Tulsa, but that's not practical, given that even if I use the shorter of the two routes MapQuest gave me, it's a 6-hour drive. SIX HOURS. Do you know how much money that would be in gas alone? My gosh.

Muse, I'm not happy with you right now. Not happy at all.
