Is it now 'cool' to like Coldplay?

Featured Replies

In my school, there are a lot more people coming out and saying that they like Coldplay, and people who used to say they hate them, now post their lyrics on facebook... And not just the people that are just into pop, but the Muse, Foo Fighters, Strokes fans... Anyone else noticed this? It is what Chris has always said he wanted, for fans to not be ashamed or 'bullied in the playground'.

I'm afraid listening to Coldplay is as uncool as ever. Just google it.

Lulz

Loving CP = coming out = gay.

That was the whole point of MX, inventing new words for the title, starting over, annulling the whole "CP is whiny bullcrap" prejudice with the general public.

:D

Listening to Coldplay will probably never be considered "cool".

But in the end I don't care: being cool is a weird stupid concept. Among several reasons, here's 2:

1. The definition of coolness would be that to be cool you have to not caring about being cool. So it shows that even if you want to be cool, you can't really, because being cool is about not caring about being cool.

2. So anyone who doesn't care is cool ? WRONG. Even when you don't care, there are some people who will have the pleasure to make you understand that, according to their standards, you're not. Especially if you claim loud&clear that you love Coldplay.

These are 2 exemples of reasons of why "cool" is a weird stupid concept. And though it's hard not to care, especially when you're in high-school, now I try not to care about being cool anymore. And I don't try that in order to be cool. I just don't care about all that shit anymore. And you know who helped me coming to that realization ? COLDPLAY. (not only them, but yeah they're a part of that process, definitely)

So Coldplay will never be cool. But that's OK :)

/longpost :|

No, not cool There were too many haters posting after the Grammys. I still love them though, and I'll never be cool!

I'm perfectly fine with them being 'uncool'. That way they don't get so maitstream that they're played on the radio every 15 seconds (aka Lady Gaga).

And you can't really 'like' Coldplay unless you like more than what you hear on the radio (considering the only ones I've heard are Viva, Clocks, and ETIAW) I, actually, like some songs that aren't singles better than the ones that are. And if you like Paradise that doesn't necessarily mean you like Coldplay. It just means you like that song.

What is seen as 'cool' is usually ultimately stupid and pointless anyway.

In some circles, it does seem people are starting to come back around to them again. Kinda started back with Viva La Vida-I've noticed some people are having to grudgingly admit of late, "Yeah, I guess these guys aren't so bad, after all."

But there is also always going to be the general teasing and making fun, yeah.

I do agree with Coeurli's excellent post, though. Cool or not, I don't care. All that matters is what I think of the band. I like them. I always have. And that's that. Nothing annoys me more than people trying to act so cool and hip and "ironic" about music.

Agreed on all counts. And Coldplay isn't stupid or pointless, which automatically makes them "uncool".

Oh well, I still like them.... ;)

Hm, no. Maybe because I consider Muse, Foo Fighters, Strokes to be pop too.

I don't think so. Although, a lot of my friends that never used to like them love ETIAW and Paradise :dozey:

i never experienced coldplay not being cool actually:P and so i'm very open to everybody that i'm a fan of them.. I thought people just thought i was annoying talking about coldplay, but now that i read this, maybe they're just hating because apparently everybody does?

Most important, I think coldplay is amazing and i'm not ashamed of telling everybody.

I doubt if liking Coldplay will ever be cool. This is the phenomenon you're witnessing:

Casual listener/cool kid: *hears paradise for the first time, consequently gets it stuck in their head for a day*

Coldplayer: Did you see Coldplay at the Grammys?

Casual listener/ cool kid: OHEMGEEZ COLDPLAY I LOVE THEM PARADISE IS MAI FAVE SONG!!

Coldplayer: well I prefer Hurts Like Heaven but Paradise is good too

Casual listener/cool kid: Hurts like wha?

:laugh3: I think you have it right with that statement. ^

^^

Even better, you could say "I love them too, what is your favourite song from A Rush Of Blood To The Head?" or "What is your favourite B-Side?" And see their reaction ;) I bet they'd be really confused :laugh3:

Being cool (better: pretending to be) is the stupidest fake thing ever. I like Coldplay, others like Nicky Minaj. Even though I may not get it, it's just personal taste.

Actually, I partly notice this. A lot of people say they 'love' Coldplay at school or even anywhere else but they just 'know' and 'love' Paradise and the very very popular songs. But then, they don't even know how :jonny: :guy: :will: are called.

So I think they just say they like it, because now CP is being very successful, but still it's no deep love for their music.

My opinion :D

This.

Everyone is calling themself fans just because they like Paradise. Kinda irrirating.

Actually I often get the opposite. They're like: "I love that song (paradise) ! I can't stop listening to it!"

So I say: "Oh really ? You know I'm a huge Coldplay fan"

And they're like: "Coldplay...this is for when you're sad...I mean I like that song but you know...not a fan or anything" :|:uhoh:

*AWKWARD*

So that proves Coldplay will never be cool. And that people can't admit the diversity in Coldplay's discography, also.
