I think reacting like this is counter productive.

Coldplay should be encouraged to play with their setlists a little more and to bring some life into it. One of my main problems with Coldplay is how static their setlists can be.

Politik is certainly one of their best songs, but you can't expect them to play it every time. Leaving it out probably made room for some other songs that we haven't heard in a while.

This is also true and maybe I'm not really objective, because it's my favorite song. I wouldn't mind them leaving The Scientist, Lost! (which they did now) or Yellow out sometimes. But that would displease the mainstream audience too much, I think.

Exactly! For some of us, watching Politik live at a Coldplay concert is an out of body experience. There are so many other tracks they could leave out. And it's bs that they couldn't possibly play Politik and DLIBYH in the same set. It's not like every single song in their present set is drastically different from the others.

It'll be very interesting to see if they leave it out at the Hollywood Bowl.

Imagine there's no Politik on Coldplay Live DVD 2012 :sad2:

^ OMG. That would be unforgivable. :(

Politik is the best song EVER!!

My favourite, they should've taken out Yellow or In My Place.

It looks like they want to play only the singles:(

Just my opinion here but I think Coldplay should play whatever they want to play on stage. I myself love Politik, it's one of my favorite songs, but I think it's up to the artist to decide what they think fits for the current tour. They may just want to try something different this time around, and it's not like they've never played it or never will play it again. Like others have said, the tour has barely begun and changes to the set list can still occur.

Also, they may have gotten tired of playing the song even if they do love the song itself, although not sure if that is the case here since they've been playing Yellow and others for a very long time now. :P

That's well said, I agree with you !!! ;)

My own personal thoughts..

Everyone has been moaning for months now that they never change up their sets.. The first time they do.. people MOAN! shrugs.gif

What is that saying.? 'you can never please all of the people all of the time.. ?'

Coldplay, play whatever you like! I will still come and see you and still love it! :D

  Exactly!!!

As it has been very well said from some of you, I think they should play whatever they want. After all, they are going to play the songs every night for a long time, and they need to play songs they really want to play.

I do agree about the fact that Politik is a solid part of the setlist and it's sad that they didn't play it, but if it's their choice? And still, they're trying new things maybe, and it's not necessarily definitive, they may see that Politik can't be left out and play it again. Everything's not lost :)

Of course, but other people will have an 'out of body experience' while listening to another specific Coldplay song live OR while listening to any Coldplay song live.

Everyone has another opinion about what songs could be left out what songs should stay. It's hard to decide as everyone has their favourite songs.

So the best thing is to let Coldplay decide what they want to play.

I'd definitely miss Politik. It's one of their best songs - the first I ever heard - and I think, and hope, it comes back.

Since they don't like that album very much, I think you'll have to do something even more extreme

^They don't? I realize they don't play it live (only Fix You) much, but I've never seen them say anything like that.

They CAN'T take out In My Place! It's where all the Buckin Magic happens!

:laugh3:

Sorry but I think this discussion it's a little useless and meaningless...they can play what the hell they want because all [well maybe not all the MX's ones] their songs are beautiful!

Listen, if it hurts you so much you can always give the tickets to me :D

According to some interviews, they don't like to play a few songs from X&Y, and actually they have bad memories from that era. Especially after the album came out, apparently they were in a pretty bad place, not talking that much to each other.

I really don't understand what all the moaning about the setlist is about. I've been privy to this too and I've complained and wanted my "dream" setlist, but in reality Coldplay are a band that, most of all, want to please their fans. They are not going to get rid of songs like Yellow, IMP, The Scientist etc because these are classic Coldplay songs and at concerts, this is what people want to hear.

Most people that attend these concerts are not hardcore fans as present on these forums. Concerts are attended by a majority of casual Coldplay fans or rock/soft-rock fans in general. If they dropped Politik, sure 10-15% of the audience may be upset, but the majority of the people won't take any notice. On the other hand, if they dropped Yellow or IMP, that's on a different level.

And I've seen some proposed setlists consisting of mainly non-singles, and this would never happen because more than half the audience would just get bored.

Also, we as fans follow every concert on these forums and see the same setlist over and over again, but to many of the people who attend the concerts, its completely new to them.

So the idea that Coldplay would all of a sudden revamp their setlist to include songs that we know they are just not going to play, is just really hopeful optimism. From what I've read so far (concert reviews online and in this forum), everyone has come back saying they had a great time and that's all that really matters.

This is just my two cents by the way.

Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for the info. Do you know where they said such things?

Can't remember exactly, sorry. It was mentioned in a few interviews, but which ones I can't say. :\

Thank. You.

This can be said of any band, too, by the way-I think every artist's fanbase goes through this debate at some point.

I have a great time at every Coldplay gig I've been to. But is it wrong to a be bit disappointed about not hearing your favorite songs live? Last December I was disappointed they didn't play Christmas Lights and did a simple White Christmas cover, I still had an amazing night. On Rock Werchter I'd hoped they would play Trouble, like on Pinkpop, but that didn't happen too and I still was mind blown about the concert, although I had hoped for Trouble.

The same would happen for me if they continue to not play Politik.

  • 2 months later...

They should really need to get more songs from Rush of Blood on the set list, considering it is the 10th anniversary next month! Warning Sign is just brilliant on the MX Tour and I would love to see more songs played.

I wouldn't say it's wrong to be disappointed, but IMHO it is a bit unrealistic. Every Coldplay song is someone's favorite, and even if they played a mammoth 3+ hour set, they'd still leave someone's favorite(s) out. There's simply no way any band can play all the songs every single person in the audience wants.

Yesterday's setlist, no Politik

I really like Politik but for some unknown reason I find that very funny

Only one song on the C-stage? Seems odd to me

It's still 21 total songs, which is very much in line with the other shows.

It's funny how we debate these setlists and voice our disappointments. The truth is when 1 is present at the concert, it really doesn't matter. I didn't miss Politik 1 bit.

I don't think that setlist is correct. Life Is For Living isn't on this current tour, and I believe they do Speed Of Sound in addition to UATW on C stage.

To be fair, some people do claim to go and then still be dissappointed, but I suspect a lot of them make up their minds to be disappointed no matter what.

I really don't know how that is possible. Politik is by far the best Coldplay song ever in my eyes. You can tell by the way I reacted by starting this thread. But when the band is right there in front of you, passionately doing their thing, the effort that goes into making sure the fans have a great time, Chris pouring his heart out, running all over the place like the Energizer Bunny, etc. If you can't enjoy yourself b/c 1 particular song wasn't played, there's something wrong with you.
