[19-Dec-2013] Coldplay @ Eventim Apollo, London, UK

They changed the setlist slightly from the one pictured above. Yellow, nor GPASUYF were played, and The Scientist wasn't on the setlist either until Chris asked the rest of the band if they wanted to play it towards the end of the set.

If my memory serves me right, the setlist was the following (in this order):

Clocks

Charlie Brown

Fix You

Atlas

Viva La Vida

Paradise

The Scientist

Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall

-------

White Christmas

Christmas Lights

Amazing. AMAZING gig. We were front row centre. Right in front of Chris. Amazing. Yes there were Xylobands! I had a red one, Sharon had a Green one. We looked like Christmas :D

I haven't read the other posts, or any reviews yet, but we had a fantastic time. We queued up in the cold from just after 6am along with a few other die hards. It was a long cold day, but we had blankets and I would totally recommend space blankets! Wonderful invention. (could start a new Coldplaying fashion trend ).

I met lots of other Coldplayers, and the atmosphere was rather 'party like'.

The gig was epic. Rizzle Kicks were great. Lots of energy and really got the crowd pumping from the first minute they arrived on the stage.

Then Dynamo came on stage. Really funny moment when he plucked a lady from the crowd at random to help him with his magic trick and she didn't appear to understand really what thinking of a card, (playing card) was at all. Some amazing tricks and throwing what appeared to be a housebrick into the audience made for some interesting moments! We spied Chris and Will in the wings watching his performance, and once we noticed them, it became hard to concentrate on the tricks! :D

David Brent was funny, and had a really great band playing with him. I think my highlight of that set was singing along to 'Slough'. :D

They moved along pretty quickly between sets, getting the stage set up in record time for each performer, I didn't feel that there was much of a wait at all for any of them. At this time they pushed what looked like Chris' piano onto the stage. Along with what we in the front row recognised immediately as Chris' microphone, along with a much shorter one for Lily. Then they pushed the piano off to the back a bit so we all assumed that maybe they were just preparing the stage for later.

Then Lily came on stage to a huge cheer, with a leather jacketed, hatted Chris Martin with acoustic guitar and he accompanied her on her first song. Awesome!

The next song and onto the stage came Robbie Williams! Who sang with her, acompanied by none other than Jonny Buckland and various other musicians. (I am sure others will tell you who they all were - it's all a bit of a blur right now!)

The highlight of Lily's set for me was Somewhere Only We Know. Beautiful song.

Finally! The moment we had been waiting for.

Coldplay took the stage! Chris sat at the piano and went straight into a freaking fantastic version of Clocks! Complete with green lazers and some interesting piano stool rocking! The place went mental, and you could tell Chris was blown away by the reaction as he couldn't seem to stop smiling the entire song.

Then without much gap they pushed the piano back, Chris grabbed his guitar and they went into a rocking version of Charlie Brown. We were all jumping and singing, the xylobands were flashing, and the place was rocking.

Next up was Fix you. The singing was amazing, and Chris commented that hearing us all sing along was just the most amazing thing. (sorry for the over-use of the word amazing here, but I can't think of any more adjectives right now!). :D

Then Chris started the opening to Atlas, and the place went mental as everyone recognised it.. but as quickly as he started he stopped and apologised in his cute way that he had 'fucked up' and would start again, doing a hilarious reprise of the end of Fix You. So we could all pretend he hadn't even started Atlas. :laugh3:

Atlas was (yes you guessed it) AMAZING live. Jonny's guitar wow! We were pretty much in front of his Amp and (I don't know what you call it but he used the slide and that little thingy that he holds in front of the pickups) but the sound was awesome! Freaking unreal..

Then it was time for Viva. If we hadn't been pumped by now (and we were) This made us jump and sing even more. Chris finishing the song on the floor in his signature way, right in front of us. Crazy.

Then back to the piano for a really great Paradise! At this point I realised I had probably lost my voice as any high notes came out as squarks, so I apologise for anyone around me that had to listen to that! LOL.

As Paradise finished, Chris said they had a few more songs, three maybe four, left to play, maybe more.. and we all shouted out numbers that we wanted, some people yelled 300!, 50! I think I yelled 42! LOL.

But he said something like because of us they would play the Scientist, turning to Will for approval, who laughed long sufferingly and nodded his consent. At this point, there were big grins between Guy and Will, I think Tash has some photos of this moment.

The Scientist as always was perfect, the sounds of everyone singing filled the place and again you could see how much Chris was enjoying it.

Finally they went into ETIAW. Lasers, singing, as far as I was concerned this was probably the best version I have ever heard. At one point, I was aware that everyone around me was taking photos and videos (I didn't take a single photo as my phone was out of batteries - but I knew that everyone else would so I really just wanted to enjoy the gig) and there was a moment, very brief, very fleeting, when Chris was crouched by the piano, in his signature way, singing, and we made eye contact. I KNOW it was me. Because EVERYONE beside me was taking photos, I was the ONLY one with no camera to my face at that point. :D :dazzled:

He was doing that a LOT, looking at people in the crowd, throughout the gig making eye contact, making those funny round eyes he does. I imagine that most people in the front few rows had that moment of eye contact too. But I have to say it was for me - YES.. it was AMAZING.

Then they were off, speaking personally, I couldn't have shouted or cheered any louder, and I think the rest of the audience were doing the same.

There was a short pause, and people started doing the Viva Chant and then Chris came back on again, in a different shirt and sat at the piano.

He said that because it was Christmas that the Coldplay stuff was now over and they would be doing some covers and stuff, and at this point a Choir joined him on stage, and they did a lovely version of White Christmas. The audience singing SO loudly that really the choir were pretty much drowned out and I saw a few of them looking completely overawed and laughing at the amazing response. It must be quite crazy to be onstage with Coldplay and seeing and hearing us all sing.

Then it started to snow. We didn't get any confetti but we did get snow.. I probably still have it in my hair! :D This is the point that the emotion of the long long day got to me and I shed a couple of tears. Truly truly fantastic (there another adjective!).

Then the show was closed with Christmas Lights. I don't really need to tell you how magical that was. Christmas lights, singing, snow, Chris Martin in front of me singing. My day was made. It truly was AMAZING :D

Finally they took their bows and left to more long and thunderous applause.

As the crew started to strip down the set, we were shouting at the roadies for set lists. Tash got one from Matt, and then Sharon got one from Guy's side, I got one from under Chris' piano! And finally Ellen was given Will's. So we all had one from each of the band members. Amazing.

Finally we made our way back to our hotel. And it is now far too late to have breakfast! We have slept so long. :D

A wonderful magical amazing day, spent in the company of the best people. I had the best time.

Thank you Coldplay, thank you Sharon, Annette, Ellen, Tash, Wisna and Jennie (I am sorry I am sure that isn't how you spell your name!) and everyone else I met and chatted to during the day, thank you for a lovely day. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
