Coldplay, Jessie J and Kaiser Chiefs may perform in Yeovil's Westland's flood-benefit gig

Coldplay, Jessie J and Kaiser Chiefs could be playing in Yeovil to raise money for flood victims.

Speculation has arisen that the music stars will perform following an annoucement by Westlands Leisure Complex in Yeovil that they have confirmed they will be holding a concert to raise money for the Somerset flood victims but no acts have been officially confirmed yet.

Torrential downpour and strong winds have crippled large parts of Somerset in recent weeks, with Muchelney and Thorney still underwater.

With the weather causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, members of the community have been quick to offer their support for those affected.

Yesterday, Westlands confirmed they will be holding a concert to raise money for the flood victims - but the acts who will perform have yet to be officially announced.

Yeovil charity gig officials confirm talks with "high-profile" acts after Coldplay, Jessie J and Kaiser Chiefs are tipped to be on board

COLDPLAY, Jessie J and Kaiser Chiefs are among the high-profile acts linked to a charity gig set to be held at the Westland Leisure Complex next month.

Officials have confirmed that “arena-filling British acts” are speaking with promoters ahead of the proposed concert to raise money to help Somerset flood victims.

Keith Weston, site operations manager at Westland Leisure Complex, said he hoped the event would go ahead in early March.

He said: “We only came up with the idea on Sunday but our promoters are already in consultation with some very high-profile acts.

“I am not in a position to confirm any names at this stage but I can assure you that if the right things fall into place it will be one of the biggest events Yeovil has ever seen.

“We are talking arena-filling British music acts.”

He added: “We are looking at holding the concert on March 7 but we are still in the early planning stages.

“We are hoping to hold two concerts – one in Yeovil and the other in Bridgwater’s Blake Hall.

“This event could be huge and we are in talks about giving the majority of funds to go towards the flood relief effort.”

Around 1800 locals could be lucky enough to get their hands on tickets to fill the popular Yeovil venue.

The event is being promoted by West country-based SLR promotions.

Mr Weston added: “We should be able to reveal more detailed plans in the coming weeks.”

New rumour:

Outkast, Coldplay and QOTSA: Ranking the Electric Picnic rumours

WHO'S GONNA HEADLINE?

You can almost certainly expect to see Outkast on the bill for EP14. The newly reformed duo are playing a slew of festival dates this summer and will definitely be in the neighbourhood, given that they're set to headline Bestival in the weekend after Electric Picnic. If these guys aren't on the line-up we'll eat our hats. Queens of the Stone Age are another band heavily linked with taking a main event slot at EP, as are Portishead, but one of the more unsubstantiated rumours we've come across today relates to a certain Mr. Chris Martin and his band Coldplay. Maybe you've heard of them? They're sort of like an English Kodaline. But we'd be a little taken aback to see them on the bill. Which probably means that the rumours are true.
