LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"

Featured Replies

Well... A release on Jonny's birthday (Friday I believe) could still happen! Probably unlikely but why not throw that thought back into the mix?

I wouldn't release a single on any of the lads' birthdays because releasing a single would drown out the fact that it's their birthday! Everyone else would be like running around busy making sure it's a smooth release for the single and there would be Jonny/Guy/Will/Chris sitting in a chair in a corner holding a cupcake with one candle. Probably a quick happy birfday and back on to business. I'd count that as the worst birthday ever lol

At this point, I think they will release the single after the festival. Although there still is next Tuesday. I am not sure what the logical approach here would be. Would it be better to just debut a new song to thousands of people (a lot probably non-Coldplay fans) without anyone hearing it? Or would it be better to release the song before the festival so people have a chance to hear it? Last year, almost everyone probably knew ASFOS, or heard it at some point. Wouldn't it be wise to have people at this kind of festival know the song beforehand? What do you guys think?

While I don't know how much this applies to Coldplay, I do recall some artists saying its a weird feeling playing music to a crowd who has never heard it before. They're so used to having the crowd sing back the lyrics when it doesn't happen, it kinda throws them off a bit.

That's exactly my thought. Makes more sense to have the crowd know the song. Especially this kind of crowd.

I don't think it would matter if the crowd knew the song or not. They performed the entire GS album on live 2014 and no one knew the words to the new songs. Lol. Also when they performed princess of china and up in flames for the first time, the crowd loved it even though they never heard those songs before.

Yeah but that was a specific Coldplay event. People knew what they were getting and were expecting new material. This is a multi-artist festival where Coldplay only have 20 minutes or so and a lot of people probably are not there for Coldplay. I know they have to debut songs a some point, but where it is a festival like this, I would think they want the song out there beforehand. This kind of festival is a new material kind of deal.

Something to keep an eye on:

Apple is having a huge event next TOMORROW, 8 Sept. in San Francisco to roll out their new product line. They booked a 7,000 seat auditorium for the reveal, and a lot of folks have been speculating that there might be a massive musical guest, especially if they are trying to push Apple Music even further. One inside source has claimed that the event will be "bigger" than a concert.... so you have to wonder. Some are speculating Dr. Dre, some Drake.

What about Coldplay? After all, it was exactly one year ago that U2 released Songs of Innocence at the exact same event for free! I know that whole thing was controversial, but there is no such thing as bad publicity right?

WHAT IF: This time, Coldplay comes out, performs new songs, reveals that A Head Full Of Dreams is free on Apple Music (not forced). Then the guys could just zip over to Las Vegas and play new music without skipping a beat. I found it odd anyways that they were not performing at Apple Music festival this year, so maybe this is the reason? Thoughts?

^ The Apple event is tmr though, no? It better be, otherwise I would've had the date marked wrong on my calendar the whole time!

And I don't see Coldplay releasing LP7 exclusively for Apple Music when they're so heavily engrained in Tidal (no matter how buddy buddy Chris is with Apple higher-ups).

edit: nice edit

That would be awesome.

It's not next week. The event is tomorrow. They're introducing new iphones and such. It would interesting if Coldplay did that though.

^cheers! Got that corrected.

And yes, that is a very important point. Chris did throw his support behind tidal only 6 months ago, but who knows. Songs of Innocence had huge success and Coldplay has a well established relationship with the company. But it also could easily just be the weekend or dre, one of Apple's new posterchildren haha

Well, I'd be able to kill two birds with one stone I guess, since I'm planning on following a live blog during the event (tmr @ 1:00pm est). If Coldplay are at the event, i'll hear about it

Also also also...

I really don't think the band are gonna give away any freebies this time around. After not touring GS, I don't see management allowing for any more donations from the band. Management is gonna sell this era hard. Send the boys to every corner of the globe and tell them to come back with a wad of cash.

Coldplay and Apple both have a lot of respect for each other so it can happen. I think the band would introduce the album title and artwork like U2 did but instead of giving the album out for free, i think they would announce a preorder because i think it's still being worked on. It would be crazy if it happened though.

Well... Apple paid a LOAD of money to U2, I believe. So it wouldn't be like a complete freebie I guess... Plus with the expected world tour... The idea actually isn't completely out of proportion.

Another good point, jc. Perhaps the whole free part isn't entirely plausible. But it is also true that Apple would pay them and their label a ridiculous sum of money to do this.

They also could just announce that the album is available to stream for a limited time for free on Apple Music. Or maybe just a free single? It certainly would be a surprise release of sorts!

Imagine if we see Apple tweet something along the lines of special guest and new music later today? Haha. Everyone would freak out. [emoji15][emoji51][emoji23]

This thread goes through its spurts where it looks like something has happened, and it turns out to be nothing. But imagine when something does actually happen? I can't wait for that day! [emoji51]

I know! Yesterday, after a few hours away from the thread, I came back, and it was like "65 more posts" from where I had left off and I was hastily reading through everything trying to find the piece of news....but there was none :(

Yeah it's just us having conversations to kill our boredom while we wait with anticipation for SOMETHING to happen. Please Coldplay. Something. Anything. Please.

Lol imagine if (not Coldplay) tweeted that (not Coldplay) was going to release new music. We've reached the stage of hoping for news that might not even be relevant.

We're so starved of news that we'll swarm around anything that might even remotely relate to Coldplay.

I'd hope for a studoi release of the new song probably due on 18th of September before the performance, because I don't wanna hear a live version first since I'm sure the studio version will be better. But I admit it's unlikely this is gonna happen.

And after that U2 thing got such bad publicity, I believe both Apple and any other huge band will steer well clear of that kind of thing ;)
