  1. Yeah! I love Lhuna. Too bad the song always gets a bad rap.
  2. I Am Citizen Insane - Radiohead
  3. I finally watched the movie, like, an hour ago! So good. Need to start on the show next. You're in for a ride! Best show.
  4. I'm a guy and I'm here to talk about guy stuff like cobras, and steroids and milksteak. :drinking:
  5. Took the words right out of my mouth.
  6. The album would have sold just as much with or without ASFOS.
  7. No, that was some random small band who said they'd be touring with them this summer. But it was posted on April Fools, and as know, there isn't going to be an official tour for this album. As others have already said, I forgot how incredible it was to watch them blasting their instruments in a large crowd. They just really, truly enjoy themselves. Ghost Stories is my second favorite album, but Coldplay is at their best live when they're in large crowds playing loud songs. This doesn't necessarily mean they have to pull a Mylo Xyloto 2.0, though. Look at X&Y. That wasn't necessarily a fan-favorite album, but their tours were loud and equally as energetic as the Mylo Xyloto Tour. Wherever they head next, I'm excited. My love for the band has only grown in the past few years, and so I remain optimistic.
  8. Just a small update. I've recently realized this is the first album they've made where I hardly feel like skipping a track. Even with the songs we've had since March, I'll sit and listen. The album flows amazingly, and probably better than any other album they've released. Props to them on that.

oldplay, somehow, never makes a bad album closer. There has never been a single album closer, in my opinion, that has been anything less than great -- and O continues that trend. When the album was first announced, I was most excited to hear O based off of absolutely nothing. I guess my intuition was right, because damn what a track. O, aside from being a fantastic way to wrap the album, is the second song in Coldplay's discography to ever make me get close to crying. My eyes were completely hazed over with tears as the song came to a close. I was entranced by myself due to the fact this was not what I was expecting when I started the song! In hindsight, I love that it caused such emotion. I missed having highly emotional Coldplay songs. That said, O just did not -- and has not -- replicate(d) the same emotions out of me on further listens. It's not that I hate it at all, but the strongest and most powerful part seems to be less now. But, I think that's normal with songs as you keep listening, so I'm not at all complaining. Everything about the reprise is just brilliant, and I rate that in itself a perfect 5/5. It's like The Escapist but much better, and much more powerful still. 4.5/5
  10. I don't enjoy this one as much as the one that closes after O, but it's still mesmerizing to listen to. I constantly look for good, ambient writing music and it seems O (Reprise) and O (Part 2) are soon going to be added to my playlist. 3.5/5
  11. Ghost Story is easily a completely remarkable and tremendous song. I know I keep saying '____ is one of the best things Coldplay has produced', but honestly, Ghost Story is in my list of favorite Coldplay songs. In fact, it's now sitting right behind A Rush of Blood to the Head for favorite title track song. (Though, I don't see how anything will ever beat that song, by any band, ever.) Lyrically and musically, it's completely different from anything else on the album, but goddamn does it flow well. Almost immediately, it plays like the brother of the B-sides from the A Rush of Blood to the Head days. My friends and I talked if Coldplay were possible of ever returning to the glory of those days way back in the early days of Ghost Stories. They did, and it exceeded any expectations I had. Listening to this song still puts a giant smile on my face. Everything from Chris' vocals, to the drums, to Jonny's solo and to the wonderful bass is almost overwhelming. As the_escapist said, it makes you wonder if they will ever return to this style, because it's very clear they still have it in them. 5/5
  12. If any track on this album could have been placed directly on Viva, it's this one. It's one of the most original songs they've produced, which made me completely ecstatic on first listen. And it still does! The guitar break at the end (which reminds me of a piano) is great, and I looove how Chris sings, "Fiiiiiiire." throughout the song. Very nice to hear something like this. I can completely see, however, why this wouldn't fit on the album, but it makes for a very good B-side. 4/5

    EDIT: Wrong thread! Oops.
  14. A Sky Full of Stars is a very interesting song, but I think most of it is due to the fact the Coldplay community was going fucking nuts over hearing this song. Since the LA shows, I'm not sure if a single negative review of the song existed, so of course our expectations were reaching the stars. The band knew what they were doing when they played the song live for the first time since March, and while they wanted the song to remain a secret, it was absolutely inevitable for someone to leak the song. And it did, obviously. But I remember forcing myself to not listen to the snippet because of how soon we'd be getting the actual song. I gave in, listened to it, felt mixed about it, and then blocked it from my memory so I would at least be half-surprised when it officially released. It's been about, what, three weeks now? I can't say I love the song still, but it fits in very nicely within the context of the album, but especially with its placement on the tracklist. I've noticed that I am more likely to listen to it than I am by itself when Coldplay is on shuffle. Doesn't mean its bad! 3.5/5
  15. getithom replied to Sparky's topic in Oceans
Oceans first premiered when I was asleep, but somehow, I woke up just in time to have my friends all message me going, "OH GOD, IT'S LIKE PARACHUTES BUT BETTER. JOEL. LISTEN." Thus began the third round of overplaying a new Coldplay song. (Previously with Always In My Head and Midnight.) The sonar noise in the background remains to be one of my favorite 'subtle' things the band has done. With a mix of lyrics, plus simplicity, plus the lovely orchestra noise near the end, it was like fucking listening to a modernized version of 'Spies'. The studio version came thanks to Zane Lowe, and it just felt empty. I still can't put my finger on what 'it' is. I still thoroughly enjoy the song, and i love the long, drawn out note Chris sings to close the song, but it still hasn't won me over as much as the live version(s) have. In time, of course, this will change. I reckon a large part of my love for this song is the outro track that accompanies the lead-in to A Sky Full of Stars 3.5/5
  16. Like with Always In My Head and Midnight, I heard this song first at my job, sitting in a car, tucked away and smiling obnoxiously at what I was hearing. My first listen was the only listen to this day where I was head over heels for this song. The lyrics were a bit odd at first, but musically, it made for it almost immediately, and the solo at the end was simply mind-blowing, loud and very 'Cemeteries of London'. But, much like my history with Radiohead's 'All I Need', my second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. listen(s) seemed to dampen whatever love for the song I had. While it's a pretty good song, I can't help but feel it's far and beyond my least favorite song on the album. If it weren't the added guitar work Jonny has in the end (which was nice to hear after listening to the live version so much!), I probably would skip over this every time. 2.5/5
  17. Oh God, this song. :dazzled: So many memories. I had just arrived at work when this song premiered, and I was so, so mad about that. For some reason, this was the only day of the week where I was supposed to come in an hour earlier than I was supposed to, meaning I couldn't enjoy the premiere with everyone else like I was wanting to. Luckily (!!!), there was no business, so I snuck away into a car on the lot and listened. I wish I had a .gif to express how I felt, honestly. I remember the common complaint with this song was, "Where's the climax?" and my face went from a smile-expecting-a-big-climax, to a half-smile-disappointed-no-climax-came. It didn't bother me too much, but I remember what we did get as a climax had me moving around and sort of dancing in the car I was in. Even though I had a hard time getting used to it, I did very much like the song, but was so not used to the sound and departure of their "signature sound", that I convinced myself (and others, too!) that it would be the A Spell A Rebel Yell of this era. I was wrong of course, but have since come around greatly to it and consider it one of the best things Coldplay has made. Also: dat laser bass. 4/5
  18. getithom replied to Sparky's topic in Magic
Amidst the battle that was defending this song, I soon came to play this considerably more than I ever did for Midnight -- which I still love over Magic. While I do thing it's a nice and peaceful song, the lyrics are pretty bad, but I think once you listen to it enough you tune them out and enjoy it for the music over what Chris is saying. That said, the last minute and a half are very lovely and I've been guilty of skipping ahead just to hear the song fade out. Live, I have a love-hate relationship with it. Up until about two concerts ago, I would get immensely bored with it, but it seems like they're finally feeling a bit more confident in the live performance of Magic -- and it shows. The performance yesterday at Big Weekend was by far the best performance yet, and if they keep it up, it might become a live-favorite of mine. Unfortunately, the song falls short compared to most everything else on the album, but I think the band is well aware of that. I still think it will ultimately be a bigger hit than A Sky Full of Stars, which honestly, I'm fine with. 2.5/5
  19. When they first played this song live, I remember telling myself and others it was the first track since the days of Viva La Vida that I instantly fell in love with the song on first listen. Not even first listen, but within the first five seconds of Jonny's suculant guitar break. I was completely floored when they premiered this at the iTunes Festival, and stayed floored to the point where I was having to make myself quit listening to it so much. That's been well over two months now, and I still say it's the best album opener has. But when I first heard the snippet(s) of the studio version, it seemed a little less lively as the live version(s) were, and I found that mildly disappointing. Funnily enough, however, I've since come to prefer the studio version to the live version. Fantastic lyrics, fantastic music, fantastic everything. 5/5
  20. getithom replied to Sparky's topic in Ink
The guitar melody is one of the catchiest and prettiest things Coldplay has yet to make. Ink, as a whole, is a quiet, reminiscent song that pulls you in quickly and catches your attention. It took a few listens before I really, truly appreciated the song, however. The drum beat at the beginning before the introduction sort of had me unenthusiastic on my first playthrough of the album, and it stayed like that for too long. Someone on here soon after the release pointed out it was very much like Strawberry Swing mixed with Rainy Day and suddenly, my eyes were opened, and I came to really enjoy Ink for what it is. 4/5
  21. C'mon, guys. Why so harsh? I don't like One Direction either, but his kids listen to them and he's come to enjoy their music. Besides, he himself wasn't taking it seriously due to the fact he kept laughing. I thought it was a nice addition, and it made the show even better.
  22. That's probably the best concert they've done in at least two years. Incredible.
  23. Yeah! I had no idea how much I missed this. Such an incredible concert so far.
